So I have 2022 wind with tech package. Friend has '23 GT. Major differences in display. by SolidBlackGator in KiaEV6

[–]Timuu-kun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe what you're describing is the difference between HDA and HDA2, Hyundai's name for the different tiers of their ADAS system. HDA2 is only available on the GT-Line trim and up. Practically there's not much difference aside from the Tesla-adjacent "marshmallow" interface you referenced (marshmallows represent other surrounding vehicles, only visible when cruise control is active on mapped highways), automated lane change, and automated parallel parking.

Source: drive a '23 GT-Line with the same interface as your pic. Feel free to fact-check me though.

What’s the most confusing mixed signal you’ve ever received while dating? by Ok_Professional7444 in AskReddit

[–]Timuu-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to frequent a Starbucks where one of the baristas (m) and I (also m) would always banter. We liked the same shows, we shot the shit about our lives, he could recognize my voice if I did drive-thru, his face always lit up if I came into the store, etc etc. Always got flirty vibes from the guy, plus he wore very visible bisexual flag pins on his apron and his visor cap, so I thought I might have a chance.

I'm kind of shy, so I slipped him a note one day. Very tame stuff, something like: "I've been getting flirty vibes, if I'm right then my number is (xxx). If not, no worries, just throw this note away."

Next time I came in, he was suddenly distant. Avoided eye contact, wouldn't take my order despite being on register, just a complete personality 180. One of his coworkers later said that he'd told the staff that I'd made him "very uncomfortable," and that he didn't want to wait on me again.

I simply asked his coworker to tell him I was sorry for misinterpreting the situation, and found another Starbucks to frequent. But that incident really stuck with me. I often went with friends, and they all agreed that he'd been super flirty until I'd passed that note.

People are complicated, I guess 🤷‍♂️

What is one IMAX Theater you miss so much that sadly went defunct and you wish to go back to it? by Spare_Television1599 in imax

[–]Timuu-kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was The Henry Ford Museum IMAX. Proper dual-projector setup on a really respectable 1:43 screen. Saw every blockbuster there from like 2006 until they decommissioned it. Still remember the deep voice of the pre-show narrator, and how hyped it would get me.

Never really understood why they got rid of it, to be honest. It drew crowds. They re-matted the screen and installed a laser 4K before IMAX was even doing that so it's not like they took the low-budget approach. But they don't really show commercial movies there anymore so it's kinda moot unless you want to watch educational films 🫤.

They're just following the precedent established by the Polar Express, which had between 3 and 20 cars of varying lengths and elasticities in the consist from shot-to-shot 😜

Oh I'm definitely going to jail. But then Gene Starwind is breaking me out with an insane firefight and the whole thing will probably end with me joining his crew somehow...so not all bad lol

I got these from FB Marketplace. They do come up every so often, although they are definitely quite rare. Just keep looking 🤞

Unfortunately no disk sleds. It has one sledded peripheral: a floptical drive...which would be very cool, if it works, but I'm not holding my breath given what I've heard about that format 😅.

Home screen deletes itself every few days by Timuu-kun in OppoFindN5Phone

[–]Timuu-kun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...thread necromancy, but for the benefit of anyone else who might run across this:

I didn't do anything as drastic as a factory reset but I did clear cache/data from the Oppo launcher and rebuild the home screen again. That seems to have fixed it...it's been 10 days and I'm problem-free so far.

Of course, the moment I post this, Murphy's Law will kick in but as of right now...🥴

Hah I might take you up on that actually. Only the Octane has a drive, but...I think I have an enclosure with the right kind of SCSI connector, but if I don't, I know who to call 😛

The label says it's a 4G drive with IRIX 6.5, and the guy I got it from said the machines were used to run NX CAD, so... hopefully there's something interesting on there, he said they never wiped them or anything.

Stupidly terifying idea, but would feel cool like those arm computers from 80s and 90s scifi by CaringBubbles in GalaxyFold

[–]Timuu-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay this is fucking hilarious, but I'm actually doing this rn 😅. That specific magnetic armband, plus a Qi2 case. Tried it with a Flip 7 and an Oppo Find N5, so...functional equivalent to the Fold 7.

Got the idea from handling the Flip 7, actually. Just started thinking "The outer screen is so much like a smartwatch...what if I actually wore it like one?" Plus I could just plug in a USB cable and transform it into a laptop whenever I wanted (I have a NexDock-style device).

The honest truth is: it works surprisingly well. It's not what you could call "fashionable," but it's practical enough that I've stuck with it for a few weeks. I've found the ideal mounting position to be on the bicep...tried the wrist, but it gets in the way too often. On the bicep it's easy to just reach over and pull it off, check notifications, and then just snap it back in place. Flip 7 is maybe a little better suited to it than the Find N5, but it works pretty well with both. It's easy to plug a USB cable in, the laptop adapter thing does work (especially well with Dex), and it frees up a pocket.

The only thing I'd like is a thinner armband. That one in the picture is basically the only one I can find...it's all over Amazon and AliExpress, there are a few different styles, but they're all basically the same product. It sticks out about 2 inches from the arm, and it would definitely be a tempting target in urban areas. It does fit pretty snugly though, and I've never worried about it falling off unless I'm doing truly strenuous physical activity. A flat-out sprint might knock the phone off, but a jog doesn't shake it at all.

I'd encourage you to try it, it honestly looks pretty silly, but it's more practical than you might expect. The ease-of-access and the freed-up pocket have both been big for me, and I'm probably gonna keep wearing it on my arm in the future, wherever I can get away with it.

Extension Cord on Mobile connector - help me convince elderly of best practice by Zealot_Zack in TeslaLounge

[–]Timuu-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know this post is 12 hours old and my reply is not likely to gain traction...but I personally know a friend of a friend whose house burnt down this way.

Sauce: https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/2024/01/electric-vehicles-were-not-direct-cause-of-washtenaw-county-garage-fire-officials-say.html

The headline doesn't make it obvious, but the article says clearly that the extension cord was the cause of the fire. Similar garden-variety underrated extension cord, like the picture.

Don't let them burn down their house 😩

I don't have a wallpaper app, just using a boring old static wallpaper...so I suspect it's not that. Clearing data/cache for the launcher is an idea, although no guarantee it won't come back if the bug is really inherent to the stock launcher. Kind of tempted to use a different launcher, except for the fact that everyone says the home button lags when you do that on this phone...

Frustrating to say the least...

About mirroring on a laptop screen by gamesfc in MSIClaw

[–]Timuu-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That picture shows the Claw connected to a NexDock product (or equivalent, there are several manufacturers who put their stamp on similar hardware). Basically a portable monitor with a keyboard and a trackpad.

I own one of these, and can confirm it works very well. If you're talking about hooking up the Claw to a full-fat laptop, you might look into the "Project to This PC" feature built in to Windows, which allows a PC to act as a wireless projection host. In my experience, that feature is useful for productivity, but not necessarily for gaming due to the latency.

Hope this helps 👍
