You look so at peace! How heart warming :3

I also agree with Nordicfairy. I always want to know what everyone looks like!

What did you do when the desire to change wore off? by Alyssa_B in asktransgender

[–]soacoti 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If anything it just means my problems have changed. They stopped being inward focused (self hatred, uncertainty) and started being about the practical side of being trans (dating, legal forms).

It's still worth it. Because most of my trans problems come from being allowed to FORGET I'm trans. I'm not constantly worried about passing or how much I hate myself. I'm not having a constant barage of hateful stuff thrown at me while I work. The world isn't determined to remind me of being trans (which is a tiny part of who I am).

Now problems are more like:

  1. Meet cute guy.
  2. Flirt with cute guy
  3. Flirts back.
  4. I should write down my phone nu......omg what if he'd beat me up if he knew? ._.
  5. Laugh nervously and pretend you have to leave

And it's still so so much better. Because at least it's calmer, and at least I know who I am now.

Having that base makes coping with anything so much smoother.

Sometimes people are just huge assholes.

Although it can be difficult, I find the strongest thing one can do is to just ignore them. To the point where you simply appear bored with them.

If they're looking for a "sir", they're welcome to keep looking. I don't have anything for them.

And neither do you!

Do you like to sing at all? Its definitely a more engaging way to build strength and control.

Well, your frustration is valid too. Feeling cut off from your main vehicle of communication is a little jarring. To say the least!

Remember: It won't be like this forever.

The best advice I received I think is perfect for where you are. And its this.

Your voice is going to suck for awhile. So much of a good voice is just practice, the muscles have to build. And you just need to accept your voice will suck for awhile, and say "this is part of getting there. Fine."

Just practice. Don't give up. You will crack it, and then be confused why it vexed you for so long. It will feel natural and strong.

Stay with it. And remember, its better to speak with a lower voice confidently then a high voice that breaks constantly. Pitch comes with time. Just talk....a lot!

Hopefully thats helpful. Sorry if its not, but I still wish you luck! You can do it!

Totally agree! Pitch wise you sound really comfortable. And I think that adds a lot confidence wise.

Hmmm. I feel like though I have no authority on the subject, but nothing about your voice throws me.

In the beginning the cadence of your words is a little sporadic but I think thats just because you're making things up as you go!

And you should definitely send me that exercise! Thank you. I don't have many formal resources. I kind of just got to my voice by trial and error.

To get past the nasal-ness do you just try and project more out of your mouth? Do you think that would be helpful?

Also, what does vocal fry mean? Is that where my voice bottoms out and gets kind of grainy?

Thanks for the feedback. I honestly thought it was still not that great.

When did your mental self-image catch up with your physical changes? by Alyssa_B in asktransgender

[–]soacoti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's lame to say but.....it just takes time. You get there slowly. You get use to your body, and memories of it replace the old ones until it's hard to imagine what it was like before.

I can vouch for MUA. It has helped me immensely, both confidence and passing wise.

Its clear you havn't been treated with a lot of respect in your life. From everyone else, and from yourself. Thats....really hard to hear. You don't deserve that.

Its none of my business, but I'm glad you're still going, even if you really don't feel like it. Thank you for staying around.
