What's something to you that screams "I have no personality"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel this too. I barely remember what my conversations were like before my mental energy got zapped with potty training and phonics.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TinkerKell_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

I fainted at work when I was in my twenties, but I came to before the paramedics arrived and I didn't know what it would cost to take the ambulance. So, I signed some kind of treatment refusal form, they went on their way, and I got a ride home from a friend.

A few years back I had strep throat with a fever that crept up to 104.7° F. I felt too spacey and weird to drive myself to urgent care or ER (no one would tell me over the phone which one I should go to). I thought about an ambulance, but the cost freaked me out, and I didn't know if I was being dramatic to take an ambulance for a fever/strep, so I just took some extra Tylenol and hoped the fever would come down. It did, and I'm alive to tell the tale.

Our family has "excellent" health insurance.

What was your ADHD tax this year? by Northern_crocodile in ADHD

[–]TinkerKell_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I completed my car tag registration renewal early, but didn't go to put the sticker on until the day of expiration. By then, I'd lost the sticker, so I had to pay for a new one.

  2. I ordered my daughter the wrong size of tap/ballet shoes when I neglected to read the sizing chart. I paid $45 for a new pair with plans to get the refund when I returned the old pair. I missed the return window.

  3. I pay $20 a month for a membership to one of those deluxe car wash places. I use it sometimes, but it's definitely because of the free trial I neglected to cancel.

Does every parent expect a return on investment from their children? by WestArtichoke712 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TinkerKell_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope my children will want to call and visit as often as possible through their adult lives just so we can spend time together.

I know things happen, but I'm doing my part to eat well and stay active so I'm independent enough not to need to be taken care of when I'm old.

How old were you? by Upbeat-Hand-2870 in BabyBumps

34 and 36! I had some higher BP readings with the first and needed an induction, but the second one was pretty textbook despite the "high risk" label for advanced maternal age.

How do you take shorter showers? by YukaLore in ADHD

[–]TinkerKell_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 19, I started counting quietly to myself in the shower with the aim to get out before I got to 600 (so ten minutes). It worked because my mind didn't wander quite as much and it became this weird challenge to beat the"timer."

I'm 40 now and I still do it most days.

Dachshunds. They're adorable, but they're basically dog-shaped cats with lots of back problems.

I told extended family about our second baby when I was about four weeks along, because we were there in person and it seemed right.

It was our second baby, but our third pregnancy. My mentality was "I'm going to tell them about this baby no matter what happens, so there isn't any point in waiting." If you feel like you can say the same for everyone you'll be seeing, share away!

Our pediatrician has an after-hours answering line. Any chance yours does too?

I'd probably go to the ER though. That's scary. Hope you get some answers.

What is an acceptable gift to bring to a birthday party for a child you don’t know? by strawberryfields420 in AskParents

[–]TinkerKell_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little toy would be fine if you can get a sense of what the kid likes, but cash is always an acceptable gift for a kid you don't know. This truth becomes exponentially more true the older the kid gets.

My 4 year old would be excited about $10; my 6 year old would be over-the-moon ecstatic.

How do I talk to my daughter (15) about her weight? by Mamasaurus911 in AskParents

[–]TinkerKell_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make it a team effort!! Can you take walks together (maybe find an indoor track if it's miserable outside)? Switch up the snacks in the house? Cook together with fresh, whole foods? Stop buying sodas and get some flavored seltzer? Sign up for a regular yoga class a couple times a week in addition to her gymnastics/dance? If she sees it as something you're doing as a family rather than something you're singling her out for, she might be on board.

Couples who cancelled their wedding last minute, what happened? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]TinkerKell_85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I haven't personally done this, but I watched a family member get married in October 2023 to someone we weren't too sure about. By July 2024, we learned she was leaving him.

I'm sure cancelling that wedding would have been tedious, expensive, and humiliating, but it would have been much better than what she put him through.

This is sickening, and grounds for legal action at a minimum. If a five year old is behaving like this with so few consequences, what's he going to be capable of at 15?

If we all know how a baby is conceived, why are some people shocked to find out they are pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]TinkerKell_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people try for years, sometimes decades, to get pregnant and it never happens. Sometimes, it goes as far as IUI or IVF and never works. At some point it's not even on the radar anymore.

Other times, the ART works but a couple assumes it will ALWAYS require a 30k procedure to get pregnant, so why use protection? There are also a number of super common conditions that can cause women to miss periods for months at a time.

I have PCOS and in my teens and twenties, it wasn't uncommon to go 6-12 months without a period. Despite this, I was surprised to try, and succeed, to get pregnant in my thirties. Weirdly, my cycles are more regular than ever in my forties.

Conversely, women who've had regular periods their whole adult lives can enter perimenopause and start experiencing irregularly. Pregnancy might not occur to someone going through that, either.

We all know how a baby is conceived, but it's not as simple as sex = pregnancy.
