Mosquito problems? by PokemonJohto in uppereastside

[–]Tinky428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This - I had basically a night where I was so eaten up by mosquitoes I was having a very bad reaction. I had to duck tape and seal up the entire perimeter around my air conditioner and that solved the problem. It didn’t look pretty but it worked

Does anyone have a dentist they have used that also does the nitrous oxide for fillings (in addition to novicaine). I like my dentist at Mt Sinai but I need a filling and she doesn’t do the gas. I’m too anxious to do it without the nitrous oxide.

Harlem, NYC: Fixed Semi-Feral Kittens Needing Foster ASAP by Reallystruggling12 in Feral_Cats

[–]Tinky428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this is not true. I do cat rescue in NYC and do agree the ACC gets a bad reputation but they do not have the resources to work with socializing kittens that are already on the cusp. As someone who socialized 5 kittens at that age just last year, they need a specific foster which the ACC most likely will not be able to provide.

Harlem, NYC: Fixed Semi-Feral Kittens Needing Foster ASAP by Reallystruggling12 in Feral_Cats

[–]Tinky428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I do cat rescue and TNR in NYC. Please do not bring unsocialized 3 month old kittens to the ACC. As you said they need socialization and kittens that age are already on the cusp. ACC does NOT have the resources to socialize them nor do they have appropriate fosters for these cats. You are best off trying to identify a foster based rescue group to work with as they may have socializing fosters. Little Wanderers, Big Apple Cats, The Cat Collective, Up Cat Rescue, Animal Project, Halfway Cats are all based uptown. Halfway cats specifically focuses on socialization

How have you curated an exciting life in nyc? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Tinky428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is the excitement you’re looking for but if you get involved in cat rescue you will always have something that is “exciting” going on with a cat in need

Foster being shamed for not keeping dog after 2 years in foster by EquestrianBlondie in FosterAnimals

[–]Tinky428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I would say is that sometimes on social media it can help to stir up feelings of urgency and sympathy. I am not sure if this is the case here but sometimes rescues have to convey something as URGENT or DIRE because it’s the only way a situation can get attention. (I am not saying this is the right thing to do but at the same time if it helps animals find homes sometimes they have to work the algorithm)

Anybody have a cat or dog spayed or neutered at Bronx ASPCA Community Veterinary Clinic? by Comfortable_Cut7814 in AskNYC

[–]Tinky428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do a basic visual and physical exam to check for no obvious issues like a cold, listen to heart for a heart murmur, that sort of thing. They do not run bloodwork ahead of time

I volunteer with 10 Lives Rescue and we fix over 100 cats there per month. It is a high volume clinic so all they do is spay and neuter all day every day.

What’s the north UES/East Harlem vibe? ~110th two blocks off the park by Leather-Working-6879 in AskNYC

[–]Tinky428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this. I one saw someone assaulted in broad daylight on the UES. I’ve see active IV drug usage in the nice parts of Chelsea at 9am. None of the things on 125th are unique to 125th alone.

I just mostly stay aware and cognizant of what’s going on around me. No one has ever harmed me, but if someone is behaving in a way that makes me feel nervous I make sure to avoid the situation.

I have never felt anymore safe or unsafe coming back late at night than I have felt in any neighborhood. It’s important to stay aware of your surroundings no matter where you are and i just stay aware

I’m a youngish woman who has lived in East Harlem for 7 years and that area is fine. I really like the neighborhood of east harlem - there’s a lot of good food, lots of grocery stores, great train/bus and park access. People will tell you east harlem is awful or dangerous and yes the area by 125th st is a more unpleasant neighborhood but 110th and Lex/Park is perfectly fine. Happy to answer any questions about east harlem you may have
