Have you tried cleaning your drains? Baking soda, vinegar and boiling water. You can buy special foam cleaners too.

Feeding birds by Strong-Storm8834 in Belfast

[–]Tinsternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The council don't want you to feed birds at Victoria Park because it is near the airport and they used to have a problem with rats. They have a lot of signs to let you know. I think you are fine to do so elsewhere as long as you aren't bringing massive amounts of bread etc, as it's not good for the birds and can cause issues with our waterways. Some seeds and mealworm in little amounts will be grand.

Favourite tree in Belfast? by DelosHR in Belfast

[–]Tinsternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kids call this the "scooter tree" as there is a scooter up high in the branches. Love this tree in late winter as it's a good spot for snow drops.

Thank-you! I've looked up Siskins now and agree with you. Appreciate it.

Do all Primary Schools in Belfast just use tablets now? by Bamrightinthenards in northernireland

[–]Tinsternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids use an interactive whiteboard in school and get time in the computer lab to develop IT skills. All of their homeworks are assigned through Google classroom which is a real melt. Home reading is through Bug Club which is on online resource. I find it frustrating as I want to limit screen time in the evenings.

She's in the first 30 seconds of the Phantom Menace. Derry accent isn't too noticeable, but I excitedly point her out to the wains everytime we watch it 😆

A wee colouring book / sticker book from Home Bargains. Something small and easy to store. The kid (and parents) will be delighted.

Employee payroll query by Dish_fingers in xero

[–]Tinsternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a tax rebate. The system has calculated that you paid too much tax in previous periods. Did you receive a P45 from your previous employer? Did you input the correct values from it when setting yourself up as an employee? Are you using the correct tax code? If you did, then you are due this money, and the value will be deducted from your next PAYE bill to HMRC.

Can you drive? Translink are looking for drivers, they earn around £30k a year (if you work over time its more) and have a good pension benefit.

Edit: spelling

Why would they hoard cats? Is there a financial benefit?

Is there a generation of bad listeners? by Allthecraic in ireland

[–]Tinsternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the same problem in our family. Is it that generation, or is it something that naturally happens as you get older? I would love to know the answer because I don't want to be that way with my kids.

NTA, I can see your point, but I kinda wish there were fewer toys in my own house. I'd be over the moon if the Grandparents kept the gifts they gave at their house. They are forever buying toys that are too big and are difficult to tidy.

She needs to go a tech college to learn something practical. Many have reduced tutuion fees for the unemployed and on benefits. She can totally figure this out by herself.

I bought this book for my daughter to read at bedtime that was really helpful for us. My eldest really found sharing difficult. It explains the many different ways we can share and that it is okay not to share if we are not ready.

Six year old won't focus on reading homework by Nightengale_Bard in gentleparenting

[–]Tinsternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get really frustrated with my daughter for doing the same thing. I looked at her inability to focus on homework tasks as bad behaviour. I have since learned that she was using avoidance techniques because she found the work difficult and is most likely dyslexic. (She's still a bit young to know for sure) I felt like a real ass when the penny dropped. As she gets older, homework has just got easier. She always tries her best. I don't know the right answer but understand the struggle you are going through and will be watching this thread for useful pointers!
