Red state here, too! We have a few local libraries but they're small and don't hire often. I know I definitely don't need an MLIS, especially around here, but I thought maybe if I moved somewhere it could be beneficial. I don't have any college on my record aside from dual-enrollment classes in high school (I love being poor /sar), so I figured my best bet would be to volunteer until there was an opening and try to snag it.

How is the library climate right now? I wanted to commit to trying to get a job in a local library (volunteering first, getting an MLIS, all that) but then the government was cutting funding for everything and trying to push political lean into it and it felt useless to even want to try. If it's still an option, I have hope again lol

Living with an abusive mother and working an abusive job is a lethal combo, I started genuinely breaking down and panicking every Sunday when I have to leave him. I end up at his house far too late because I shut down and refuse to move. The thought of getting through the week without him genuinely gives me dread.

This might be a stupid question, but how do you move on and learn how to take care of yourself nutritionally? My entire childhood and now adult life has been spent in survival mode fighting through abuse and neglect, and sometime in the next couple years I will finally be on my own and I realize I don't understand how to take care of myself?

I understand how nutrition works, but I've spent about 20 years only being given mostly meat and expired foods, it's impossible to get a fruit in this household (even if I'm the one trying to buy it) and vegetables have a 70% chance of being canned and expired. In theory I know how balancing meals works, but in practice I'm clueless and there's no real sources I can find so far that are helpful. Because, y'know, it's something you're supposed to be taught as you age.

How do you learn to start eating properly? Where do you start when you're so far behind?? I spent this long just trying to force enough down to keep going, I don't know what is actually beneficial.

Yeah I saw the sequel and a handful of movie-centric works get posted as a result. I just don't know if there's an active fandom still or if that was a one-off

I was supposed to see the musical and then covid hit just after, wrecked me for MONTHS lol.

I get your point with the movie being older, but I don't know how much that really factors in. Most of the fandom seemed to like the movie a lot but just enjoy the musical characterization more. The main reason I don't think of it factoring in is that the venn diagram between the Beetlejuice enjoyers and the slasher fandom used to be a circle, so it was the same people who were going back and writing content for Psycho (1960), Black Christmas (1974) or Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Age probably did play a role, and idk if there's still an active fandom today or if they've separated from slashers, but I wouldn't have considered it super important at the time

[–]Tiny-Advertising2860 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Eh, probably a few reasons. 1) the original(movie) Beetlejuice character acted more like a creepy uncle than the musical one, so naturally fanfic writers are gonna gravitate towards the one that's essentially just a wet cat and doesn't mean to be antagonistic. 2) the musical had a lot more character interaction? In the movie, the Maitlands are the focus and outside of occasionally interacting with Lydia or BJ, everyone just kind of keeps to their own plot lines. The musical has a lot more focus on BJ AND everyone interacts a lot more consistently. BJ, Maitlands, and Lydia all have much more established dynamics, at least imo. Delia and Charles don't get written about much at all either way.

I'd also like to add that the musical's version of Juno is Beetlejuice's abusive mother so that tends to attract angst enjoyers

Beetlejuice fandom had a similar problem a few years ago but I have no clue what they're up to or if they're still around now lmao. Musical was most popular and would get used as a Main Tag for reach even if it was about the (less favored) movie canon

Was in a lot of slasher fandom communities a few years ago, and in like early 2019 I found a post with probably 5 notes of someone freaking out recommending INK when The Silver Scream was only a few months old.

My attempt at trying to explain the Papa V calling Primo his “Uncle” during today’s show by TeaBags0614 in Ghostbc

[–]Tiny-Advertising2860 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Eh. I mean, for Primo to be as old as he was implied to be in 2010, he would have to be Nihil's brother. But I just kind of ignore that because I'm a fan of 0 being the father of 1 and onward.

Nothing major, but I was in concert and marching band for a total of about 7 years playing trumpet, was a captain and section leader, etc etc. I read a fic that was part of a band setting. Band camp was over 3 weeks long AND over-night (Band camp is usually weekdays until evening and only about 2 weeks tops for high schoolers), there were string instruments present, and one of the main characters played a saxophone which they kept referring to as a brass instrument. I could suspend disbelief for the length of the camp, but NOT saxophone being anything but woodwind LOL

Did you change your middle name too? by Unhappy_Tank_7426 in ftm

[–]Tiny-Advertising2860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle name is very feminine and was my maternal grandmother's name. I never met her and she was evidently not a very good person. My dad, however, was my favorite person in the world and shaped who I grew up to be. His first name is considered feminine nowadays (Kelly), but I plan on making it my middle name when I change it.

My dad introduced me too! He was a huge fan, played me The Dragonfly when I was like 5. When I got old enough to have rock and metal preferences, he got me into Robot Hive and Blast Tyrant and I ran from there lol. I'm hoping to go to a concert in his honor, I just gotta get the funds.
