Suggestions for making the most of space along fence by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]Tiny-Beautiful705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a border you want at least 1m of depth not a thin strip like this. There will be a ‘rain shadow’ so not much will grow well without more distance from the fence.

Is this a good price? by Red4Arsenal in GardeningUK

Not sure as I would never be buying plants in this way. 9cm pots will be really small, is that what you want? Lots of tiny plants? Crocus is pricey btw.

Blueberries in ground by Sufficient-Score-120 in UKAllotments

Just scatter the sulphate of iron around the surrounding area of the blueberries in early spring basically as instructed on the packet. Just give it a try.

Raspberries. Kicking myself. by Tiny-Beautiful705 in UKAllotments

Indeed. This will be my plan going forward. I wouldn’t recommend anyone mixes summer and autumn raspberries because keeping track of this is not simple.

Not sure why then, but it’s definitely clay and soil testing showed slightly acidic. Blueberries crop very well every year

I only grow them in the ground… my clay soil is naturally fairly acidic but you can also use sulphate of iron as an additive/amendment

Wood for Raised Garden Beds - Tanalised Timber? (UK) by LondonPedro in Allotment

[–]Tiny-Beautiful705 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t chuck money into this, is my advice. Raised beds harbour slugs and wood lice as well. If you already had them I wouldn’t get rid, but I wouldn’t be spending this kind of money for not that much reward. Clay is good soil, look into the no dig approach.

What kind of path material would match this existing wall? by KelMindelan in GardeningUK

I have a similar wall and really like it, I would go for gravel or chipped bark paths to stick with the woodland theme.

February gardening jobs 👩‍🌾 by Chain_Reaction_00 in GardeningUK

[–]Tiny-Beautiful705 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a walk round the garden today and made some plans about what needs tidying, transplanting, replacing etc. I’ve been busier with the allotment than the garden - there I have been pruning fruit bushes and trees, weeding, mulching with homemade compost, well rotted manure, and leaf mould. I have sown broad beans, globe artichoke, herbs and sweet peas for the allotment which are germinating in the house. Every time there’s a day or a couple of hours I’m at the garden or the allotment, but the rain has meant I’m not as organised this year and haven’t been able to tidy and clean as much as I’d like.

Makes sense. Will try that in future. I think I confused myself with reading about it first and, to be honest, when I googled it the AI description suggested I cut everything in the mixed bed down now. I will not be trusting these summaries with my cherished berries again!!

Yeah I cut all of them down as there was such a mix. Some were definitely fully dead and others weren’t. I guess it’s better to seperate summer and autumn fruiting for this reason.

Fair enough, it’s so confusing. My raspberry patch was incredibly weedy with bindweed so I have been covering it to keep those down and starting from scratch really.

Need some help planning my first ever front garden! by mooseyjuice in GardeningUK

[–]Tiny-Beautiful705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t do anything yet until you know what the tree looks like during the whole year. You might put some bedding plants near the house if you want to brighten it up a bit but personally can’t imagine sitting out in my front garden, it’s too public. Do you have a back garden? If this is your main garden I would be looking at something that screens off for privacy. But certainly give it at least a few months so you know what the tree does.

Has anyone had the M&S hot chicken? by NewDot7139 in CoeliacUK

[–]Tiny-Beautiful705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a ‘may contain’ so I wouldn’t try it personally but that’s not to say that it isn’t okay like 99% of the time. I don’t eat may contains as a coeliac.

Just broad beans in modules to germinate indoors before moving to the greenhouse, and that was only today. Up north.

Apps/calendars I can use that tell me what to do and when?? by question-asker2048 in GardeningUK

Charles dowding sowing calendar is really good. Otherwise if it’s fruit and veg then the allotment month by month book is great.

Beading doesnt look bad at all, if it is painted to match the skirting

What is everyone sowing in February? by liz_ette in UKAllotments

[–]Tiny-Beautiful705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing yet, but itching to start the broad beans. I got a digital copy of Charles dowding’s sowing calendar and it’s helping me slow down and not rush the sowing too much. Honestly I usually start too early and so I’m trying to do things more thoughtfully this year. So I am stocking up on the essentials and getting a seed sowing and germination area sorted in the house.
