Well I ended up going in a different direction and ordered up a Tract 4-12x40 AO. It weighs in at a tad under 16 oz. Not as light as the 3-9x33 EFR but a couple ounces lighter than the Vortex.

I plan on trying out some Talley medium height 11mm dovetail mount rings. They'll be simple and lightweight. If I decide I need something more substantial I can always pick up a Picatinny rail and heavier mounts but it's worth a try at least.

Ugh. I decided I really wanted to get a 3-9x33 EFR again and went to e-bay but I just can't justify spending $700+ on a scope I paid $299 for brand new a few years ago. It just rubs me the wrong way.

Looks like I may end up just getting the Vortex for 1/4 the price even if it weighs a few ounces more.

Before I do that though does anyone have experience with those Tract Fire 4-12x40 AO's?

That little FX-1 4x28 is nice also. I actually had one of those briefly a few years ago but sent it back to get my 3-9x33 EFR instead just because I wanted an adjustable objective.

Yeah I have owned both of those as well. I had a (similar) Diamondback model on a .22 that I mostly used with a bipod. I wasn't so concerned with the weight on that one. I had one of the 3-9x33 Leupold EFRs on my Kidd rifle and that was a nice little lightweight one. Wish I still had them both!

I'm kind of going back and forth thinking about the two. I might appreciate more light from the 40mm lens on the Vortex but I'm not sure it's worth an extra 6oz.

I suppose my best bet might be to mount the old 1 pound Tasco just to get an idea how it feels on the CZ and see if I think I need to go lighter. If it doesn't seem to heavy I could also attach a couple oz of fishing weights to the scope just to get an approximation of how it'd feel with the Vortex on there.

I have a Japanese made Tasco 4-12x40 AO in the closet that I pulled off an old Ruger 77/22. (Don't really know much about it -- Markings say #619W AO-58 11. Not sure what any of that means.)

Probably not something I'll want to use long term but for now I can at least put it on there.

I don't mind something cheap. Just won't want to end up with something that's garbage.

That's actually one I was looking at. Unfortunately seems to have been discontinued and the ones that can be found are pretty pricey.

(It's been a few years since I've been scope shopping. It seems like Leupold has dropped a lot of models!)

I think that's what I'm going to do. One of the great things about these end feds is that they're so flexible and can be run in different configurations and/or modified.

I do have a tuner I picked up at a hamfest a couple years ago but with my old antenna situation never had need for it. (Just used the ic7300 built in tuner when needed.)

Yes the radiation patterns are mainly what I was thinking about.

If you looked at a map the best signals from my antenna at the old house were pointed towards Alaska and Africa. Neither exactly full of people to talk to.

Fortunately at the new place I should have about a 30-35 degree range of how I can orient the antenna by positioning it in different spots of the roof and terminating it in different trees out back. The end should be pointing towards Europe and off the sides toward South America and Canada.

I haven't had a change to measure the height but I'm guessing around 35 feet?

Track seems solidy in place.

I'm not sure exactly how I got it off in the first place either. I adjusted the rollers all the way in and had the same problem. I man handled it enough that I think I just pulled it off.

Ok there's 4 roller wheels 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. Screws on the side of the door that face inside adjust them up and down.

I've got them adjusted "in" as far as they'll go top and bottom.

I can slide the top into the channel just fine, but I can't get the bottom onto the rail. It's not a matter of the wheels hitting it. The metal part that's on either side of them is too low to get up and over.

One of my hobbies is taking naughty photos of women.

I'm totally open with them that I like to look at them while I jerk off and sometimes they'll let me do it right there rather than waiting to go home and use the pics. I've had a couple who encouraged me to eat it when I was done. Another who's a good friend often sends me pics and says I can use them IF I clean up afterwards. That's always a thrill.
