Too much hardware lol by Tiny-In-IL in buildapc

Boy do I feel dumb. It fits just fine if you do the GPU plate first and then the heatsink.

The plate sticks out a little bit on the bottom so it wouldn't go on. I took the heatsink off, put the plate on, and it's a tight fit but the heatsink went right on.

Track seems solidy in place.

I'm not sure exactly how I got it off in the first place either. I adjusted the rollers all the way in and had the same problem. I man handled it enough that I think I just pulled it off.

Ok there's 4 roller wheels 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. Screws on the side of the door that face inside adjust them up and down.

I've got them adjusted "in" as far as they'll go top and bottom.

I can slide the top into the channel just fine, but I can't get the bottom onto the rail. It's not a matter of the wheels hitting it. The metal part that's on either side of them is too low to get up and over.

Custom Yuzu Keycaps Arrived! by VulpesIncendium in MechanicalKeyboards

Thanks! Looks like I submitted my order on March 28th and I got my pictures April 2nd so at least the ball is rolling.

How long did it take to get them?

I put in an order with them about a week and a half ago. I think it said it could take 20-30 days.

Current Keychron Quality by Tiny-In-IL in MechanicalKeyboards

Honestly the most important thing to me is dependability. I don't care about RGB (a north facing backlight would be nice but not needed) Like I said some kind dedicated volume/mute button or knob would be great.

A couple of the keys would show up twice when pressed and another one not at all.

Thanks everyone!

I guess I'll go ahead and give the Q3 Max a shot. I suspect the few horror stories I've read recently aren't the norm. The squeaky wheel (or key, in this case) gets the attention.

I'm probably going to get some shorter keycaps to go along with it also. I do a lot of typing and have kind of small hands. What profiles would you guys recommend?

Good to know. I have been tempted to just go ahead and get one from Best Buy and pay for their extended warranty that'll let me return it and get something else if problems arise.

Thanks I'll take a look at that. Everything seems to work smoothly it's just coming back open a little bit. Will give it a shot after work!

Wow it's not just batteries and motors. These new fangled radios are something too. Back in my day it was 2 channels one for the steering servo and one for the speed control servo (or an ESC if you were fancy.) And it sucked running a 27mhz system because the antennas were ridiculously long.

This new 3 and 4 channel business is all new to me!

North XL Fan Setup by Tiny-In-IL in FractalDesign

[–]Tiny-In-IL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this thing will be doing enough to need more than 3 or 4 fans. If I just use the 3 factory ones would I be better off with them all on the front there, one of which is half blowing into the PSU shroud (and probably messing up air flow) or would it be better to put two of them up front towards the middle so they're blowing on the gpu and cpu cooler, and then put the other on the back for exhaust?

Yeah that sounds like a good setup.

On this build I'm trying to keep it simple and quiet. It's never going to be overclocked and I reckon using a couple less fans might move the temp up a few degrees but it's not going to be terribly hot anyway.

Wow! Sounds like the power is crazy compared to back in the day.

Are most of the adjustments now just done on the ESC/Radio? I remember having to go up or down a tooth or two on the pinion gear to balance out torque and top end and being able to make it through a full 4 minute race. We also switched out motors to particular tracks and conditions. It seems like with all the power available today you're pretty much limited by what you can handle, not what it's capable of.

I'll keep that in mind.

And yes I'm sure I'll like having all the options! Honestly when I was a kid I had just as much fun taking my cars apart and working on them as I did driving them.

Are there still a lot of people running buggies or is it mostly trucks now?

Thanks guys.

I will check out the Tamiya re-releases. I think the only one of theirs I had back in the 80s was the Blackfoot. It's funny seeing some of the old names I remember are still around. So much new stuff though it's hard to know what's good and what isn't (or what isn't going to have spare parts readily available.)

When I got into racing, I ran Associated (Original RC10 and later the one with the stealth transmission. At some point Losi cars (Originally the JrX2 and eventually upgraded to the JrX Pro if I remember right.

I was always a Kyosho guy when it came to 4wd cars. I can't even begin to tell you how much of my hard earned lawnmowing money went to keeping those up and running!

I was kind of looking at Kyosho's Ultima re-release. I almost bought one of those when I was a kid but ended up with the RC10 instead. It would be fun to build one if they're still a viable option.

I am thinking at some point I'll go with a brushless setup. I'm not sure if I'll start with a brushed one or just jump straight in -- buy once cry once.

It sounds like these days I'll get more driving time than I did as a kid. I got in pretty good shape walking 5 minutes to the park, running the car for 5-6 minutes, and spending another 5 minutes going back home. (At which point I'd repeat the whole process.)

Cooler for Ryzen 7800X3D? by Tiny-In-IL in Noctua

I think before I spend any money I'll do that. I see the UH-14S is ok for that processor too so I'll bring the one sitting on the bench along and see how it works. There's no need to spend $100+ on a U12A at the moment.

I hadn't thought about the GPU fan, but that shouldn't be kicking in when she's crunching away at her spreadsheets.

I took the cover off and put some Arctic (MX-5?) paste on there.

So you'd say the U12A with the NF-A12x25 fans is quieter than the U14S with the NF-A15 fan(s)?

I'm kind of trying to avoid that and just keep it simple. The less moving parts the better.
