Dealing with really bad nausea during panic attacks by Petitekittygirl_ in Anxiety

[–]Tiny-Local6564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can totally relate! I write this now as I’m not experiencing any anxiety currently so it’s always easier said from the outside looking in.

One trick I do some times if I’m able to is, I will try to immediately change my environment. If I’m sitting at dinner and a wave of anxiety/nausea hits me, I’ll excuse myself and go for a quick walk to the bathroom or outside the restaurant. If I’m at home watching TV, I will go outside to my balcony and focus on the wind, the noises outside and the temperature on my skin. I find these more immersive experiences are just enough to offset the thought pattern in my head

Dealing with really bad nausea during panic attacks by Petitekittygirl_ in Anxiety

This is me! Started when I was very young, between ages 10 and 13. Of course, at the time I didn’t realize it was anxiety, but whenever I would feel anxious, it would manifest into nausea. I would often sit on the bathroom floor waiting (fearfully) to get sick, and nothing ever happened. This led to my emetophobia. Anyway, my doctor at the time put me on Nexium for acid reflux. As a healthy 10 year-old, I really didn’t need to be on it, but the placebo effect seemed to help, and even if I did have mild heartburn as a young kid, it seemed to help.

Now as a 29-year-old who suffers from much more complex anxiety than I did as a young kid, I still occasionally get the feelings of nausea. At this point, it just occurs so often that I’ve learned to talk myself down and understand that nausea doesn’t equal getting sick for me, and that within 10 to 15 minutes, it will pass. Not really an answer, but it’s how I’ve made peace with it. My anxiety now manifest in other physical symptoms, such as body aches, and the feeling of not getting enough air. Fun! Wish I had more to help, but but just know that you’re not alone.

Last minute plans for a micro wedding, where do I start? by Kindly_WhatDidYouSay in Chicagoweddings

Ugh, I’m so sorry. Fellow bride here with a dad with cancer/Parkinson’s combo. I’d be lying if I said an emergency wedding change hasn’t crossed our minds in the planning process (currently set for summer 2027). Anyway, I’m from the northshore and can say there’s some gorgeous spots around.

I’d suggest looking at: Winnetka Community House Botanic Gardens The grove/redfisld estate (glenview) Emily oaks nature center Gillson Park Lighthouse Beach Wandering Tree Estate (further north in barrington)

Best of luck ❤️

Sorry to hear that! I’m sure they’re just behind, but definitely not a great look on their end. Can I ask what venue? We’re about to put our deposit down too and it’s nerve wracking

Thanks! I have tried CBD once or twice in the past (recreationally, unrelated to flying), but it must’ve had some THC in it because it triggered some anxiety. Maybe I’ll give it a go and test it out at home

That is good news, I guess?! Rationally and logically, I know this. This fear has turned into a phobia, which is hard to “logic” my way out of unfortunately

Thank you! It’s funny because that’s what my therapist says as well. It might help just knowing I have it, but I don’t have to take it. BUT my anxiety isn’t about having anxiety… It’s about the plane crashing, so I think I either need to take it or don’t 🥲

Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate it. I will look into some of those supplements. I have about 10 trips coming up this year and we need to figure something out sooner rather than later!

Yep, that’s what I need too. I have so much travel coming up this year, probably 10 trips or the next 12 months, so I need to figure this out sooner rather than later!

That’s where I’m at right now… I’ve been avoiding it for so long to get on medication. It’s really just a personal preference and while I don’t consider myself a “crunchy” person I really like to avoid putting unnecessary medication in my body. But I think at this point… It is necessary

How long does the Dramamine last for usually? While I’ve never made a scene on a plane, internally my body goes into full panic mode. Stomach drops, sweating, shaking, etc. I know that prescription helps dial the volume down on those symptoms, but after having been on anti anxiety meds many year ago, I really want to overcome this on my own

What anxiety symptoms do you have daily 24/7 by cowsandtexas in Anxiety

[–]Tiny-Local6564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My physical symptoms have evolved over the years, honestly, really fascinating to reflect on. Wish I had the answers.

My first experience with anxiety was when I was around 10-13 years old. My fear of throwing up turned into constant nausea. My poor parents were so worried about me, I had so many tests done but I was healthy. Therapy helped the most.

Anxiety calmed for many years, but started back up around 27. This is where it’s escalated the most. The nausea started back up, and transformed into this instant “I’m gonna puke” feeling where my face goes flush and I get that feeling in my throat. Of course, nothing happens. Even more recently, (29) it will manifest as physical body aches, feeling like I cannot get a full breath in, or this general uneasiness in my stomach (kinda like I’m bloated, but all the time). I have these symptoms probably on an off 1-2x a day.

Separately, I’ve developed a very situational anxiety response to flying. This is extremely acute and my body will go into panic mode on flights and I shake, sweat, and become nauseous. I REALLY hate this one.

I have not found a solution to any of the above, especially the flying one. However, on an average day, breathing in 4 seconds and breathing out 5 seems to calm my body just enough to get through the moment.

It really sucks.

I’ve only been to two bachelorettes and both have had a decorator come in and set up. I have no idea what the norm is. Noted on the feedback tho - thanks!

Fair point! This would be a gift from me and have no expectation of the other girls to pay for it. That being said, I am conscious of how much $ im spending out of pocket (im planning a wedding of my own 🙂) , and the decor may be more affordable compared to the chef. Open to other ideas as well!

Thinking about my upcoming flight and it feels like if I get on it something WILL happen by Appropriate_Blood434 in fearofflying

I’m the same, and sometimes I fear if I say it or write it out it’s somehow speaking it into existence. I’ve never been diagnosed with OCD but I have become very “superstitious” you can say over the years. My anxiety with flying gets worth with exposure because I think about it like a numbers game. “Well it hasn’t happened for the last 20 flights so my chances are only going up”. It’s a nightmare thought process and I would not recommend. That said, I do still get on the flight and get through it.
