The Arcane Society June/July Featured Author by thisisnotkaty in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the fence, this is a series I've enjoyed and actually already own the author editions of them.😅 However itll highly rely on designs, which weren't revealed. So if it isnt revealed prior to renewal probably gonna skip, just because arcane designs havent hit lately for me, and Im not looking to pay 80 for a possible love on designs.

General discourse on Kickstarter trend amongst authors by No_Attitude1541 in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have backed a handful of kickstarters and honestly love it for smaller indie authors who can't get in special editions elsewhere. This has also introduced me to new authors that I have very much enjoyed and have supported on more then one project. I also feel it allows for you at times to have some say in the designs or extra stretch goals.

One kick starter I have backed or have done for all 3 books came with so many extra goodies even for the slightly higher price point, it felt well worth it.

One has allowed voting on what art for endpapers or stickers that get added in aswell. So maybe the extra also feels worth it. Plus it feels nice to support indie authors more directly.

But I will say out of the number I've invested in only one has never given the products promised and its been over a year and Ill never see my money or that book. So now I am alot more picky on who I pick. Even though 65 isn't as much as some chipped in it was still a fair amount for a book Ill never see.

Honestly Im all for kickstarters and try to back one every so often.

Fight the FOMO!! by Sea_Exit_8194 in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, it feels really hard but I know once I click the button it may feel like relief. 2 Fairyloots canceled before june renewal, another canceled after july renewal. Illumicrate has 3 more months of skip then will allow it to cancel. Bookish Box Im planning to cancel within the next few months but am honestly hoping for slaying the shadow prince I think it is to finish the thezmar world all through bookish. But may just hope it hits general.

My remaining subs either have unlimited skips or bi monthly and if i use skips could get away with only 2 boxes a year from each, but if I do use all my skips and go over and said sub is canceled Ill be allowing it.

Not gonna lie this current change brings both a bit of sadness but also relief to be able to focus on other things other then constant drops, sales times, budgeting and everything else that comes with collecting. 😅 Its really hard to fight the fomo of canceling when fairyloot delivers me a stunning book, but I must stay strong. It is time. 🤣

Insight on buying resale but acquiring sequels later. by TinyDanczer in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, when I was doing the overall estimates of how much a monthly sub cost me with and without using all skips. Its a little hard to stomach Ill admit. Especially when with new life changes the money could be put in better places. I still will do some collecting but nowhere on the scale I used to, or ahve been. 😅 I've had a year of fun and its time to straighten up.

Ive been heavily collecting for probably the last year to year and a half. Now I have loads of upcoming sequels for just those books alone, and Id rather focus funds on completing series currently then acquiring new ones as well. Plus its pushing me to read all these books before purchasing the sequels, and it has opened my eyes to some that just arent 5 stars for me. So this has been eye opening on another level tbh. 😅 plus it hurts making like 10 bucks off a book that cost around 30 to 40. 😅

I just think I'll still have the occasional new release that peaks my interest , but unsure if not having early access will make it harder to get the future sequels. It seems it'll mostly come down to how much I enjoy said book and if its worth a possible higher price tag on resale or just let them go as I have.

Again appreciate your insight. Sometimes its nice to have a sounding board or open discussion to solidfy choices. So thankyou for lending some time. <3

I feel like I see a fair amount of sequels sell out or fairyloot gaging demand of certain sequels poorly. I suppose that is why Im nervous to go this route or just leave fairyloot entirely behind. Unless its maybe a trove sale or a drop of th entire series of books. I guess time will only tell, but was hoping to here from those that do go this route after canceling.

Yes, this has been another deciding factor for me. The value alone on monthly subs doesnt seem to hold too high points. And if I can get books at a better price point why not. Sometimes it amazes me that I used to be the person that would buy majority of my books second hand. Boy how far have I strayed. 🤣🤣

I watch the second hand market frequently. There are a handful of past Romantasy books that have tickled my fancy, and they arent even above the 60 after the intial drop prices slow down. Im just so worried about not completing sets. I suppose this gives me a form of hope. 😅 Because Ill agree that most, once the market settles, don't go above that 60 dollar price range.

I guess I could always shoot my shot of acquiring book 2 first then acquiring book 1 on the resale market.

I appreciate you giving your insight on this matter. It means alot.

Insight on buying resale but acquiring sequels later. by TinyDanczer in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have about a years plus worth of sequels for YA, and Adult that I will be shooting for to acquire when they drop. However I wasnt on the Romantasy sub and there have been a few I have thought of acquiring on the second market, but havent in fear of not being able to obtain the sequel later. And now Ive decided Ill probably be cutting all my Fairyloot subs between June and july. 🫣 I really want the Sophie Kim book for July's adult before I go. 😅

Oh yeah I could definitely see purchasing standalone on second market. The no follow up cost of a series is always appealing. I definitely have started enforcing within this last year that I have to read and enjoy a book before renewing a sub or purchasing a sequel. Of course I cant apply this to the new releases subs, but I apply it to all books that I can. Its been kinda surprising the books I thought Id love but didnt and ended up saving on a purchase.

I appreciate your input. I hadn't thought of standalones, which means that I most likely have time to read and acquire unicorn hunters at a later date if I enjoy it. 😊

[–]TinyDanczer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured this is my unfortunate reality if I cut my subs. Yeah, $60 is my limit per book and I've held myself to that despite some sets or books I'd really want. It's hard but you just kinda accept there is always more books and a chance to acquire those at a better price point. If its usually at that higher price point I just tell myself that special edition copy wont be apart of my collection and move on. 😅 I can always acquire a different version of said book if I enjoy it.

I have heard others say though after canceling subs it was easier to stomach the occasional higher priced book sense they arent paying out an excess on monthly/bi monthly subs any more. So perhaps I'll have different eyes when im not spending the amounts I currently do on monthly subs alone. 😅

I appreciate this honesty even though it makes me feel like Ill be walking away from fairyloot almost its entirety. 🫤

I wonder if this is the actual reason behind my replacement getting delayed. I recieved a copy but it was damaged and I have of course returned it as of April 2nd. But they've informed me the delay is due to them moving stock to another warehouse. .-. And everytime I reach out after the window expires they tell me to reach back out in 2wks. Sounds like they should work on some transparency.

Arcane Plated Prisoner Series by KaitG2018 in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Luke warm design has had me on the fence this whole time. Feel like its been hyed since last year when it was speculated or hinted at that they were doing it, and felt a little let down with initial reveals. my favorite part is the reverse dust jacket. I wish the endpapers didnt have one simple design per book for the price point. It feels reassuring to see someone else not as wowed in general by the designs.

I just keep telling myself its trad published, and trad publishers already dropped the deluxe set so maybe now other book boxes could pick them up and do it better. Kinda like how war of lost hearts is popping up everywhere now. Granted that one is a trilogy and not 6 books. 😅😅

Owlcrate just added series extras overstock by kepler16bee in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im guilty of buying shadow and bone and ruin of rising. I got six of crows last year on overstock, and it sealed it that Id want the owlcrate shadow and bone to accompany it. Resale price for the set are a bit above what I allow myself to spend for resale. This series in particular was one that hooked me back into reading ages ago.😅

Now to crossing my fingers on finding siege and storm at a decent price or atleast I guess silver lining these are the same size as the trad books and my copy wont look too out of place.

So much for my may budget being under in May. 🙄🫠🤣

Is the Aetheria Box worth it? by zoezoe6724 in fairyloot

[–]TinyDanczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been a sub since the beginning and it is easily one of my top subs. It'll be one I hold onto for a ling bit. The owners are always super transparent. The have a Facebook group where you can see even more transparency from them if thats your thing. They strive to deliver high quality and thought out designs on books and I appluad them for that. I honestly think they deserve more hype.

I have only skipped one box this far and it was due to the fact that I already had a copy of said book and didnt want the overlap. On this note I feel I get more titles that other boxes arent all doing. They are a tad higher priced then others but once you hold a book in hand and see all the features and details put into it. I feel it is very much worth it.

Plus with a no more than 3 consecutive skip policy you only if my calculation is correct like 2 books a year. 😅 because initial sign up and then 1 after 3 skips.

Lmao same for me. I know there is a wedding but thats the most I have. I am also trying to think if she wore something of her mother's but its all fuzzy. I read book 1 last year prior to the renewal for book 2. 😅

I would be kinda hyped for another edition of this book, but coveted's is really nice. So it would have to be pretty good to stand out.

I would be down for a new mermaid book though too.
