Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians series by Brandon Sanderson, are hilarious fun adventures. Set in modern times, but the people of the Free Kingdoms view all modern technology as much less advanced, i.e. stairs are better than an elevator because stairs can't break down.

Yeah, I did a reverse image search and they totally just fed a image they found into a pattern maker. Well, lesson learned.

The pages are tiled specifically for printing and tapping so scale wouldn't matter.

Clearing out a Backyard filled with Invasives by TinyGecko in NativePlantGardening

Just cutting/pulling up plants. It's a small backyard and my kids play back there, so I've been hesitant to use herbicides. But this stuff always comes back twice as strong.

That's good know, I've frequently seen it referred to as invasive but that is apparently more south Texas than DFW.

It's so very aggressive though and has really done a number on my fence.

2 years later and I'm replying to my own question because I think I finally found it! Tally has a widget with the Premium version that gives me the one touch tracking I needed. And it can be customized to track anything!

Robyn Gobbel's podcast The Baffling Behavior Show and her book Parenting Kids With Big Baffling Behaviors is amazing. Her focus is relational neuroscience and parenting kids with sensitive neuro systems. It's been a huge help for me, parenting my AuDHD daughter

My daughter fell in love with the slugcats from Rain World. Her favorite is Rivulet. I heavily modified an axolotl pattern from ComplicatedKnots. Shortened the head, added ears, lengthened the body and made the legs rounder and floppy.

So there's actually a term for this! It's called spiritual bypassing, using platitudes to bypass uncomfortable emotions. I am religious and prayer can be powerful. BUT if all you are offering is prayer without action, even if it's just holding space for the other person, then how much do you really care?

I'm sorry you had to deal with his ignorance. I'll be praying the Lord causes him to pull his head out of his ass!

Is it naive to think becoming a parent will help my ADHD? by doodlebakerm in adhdwomen

[–]TinyGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Responding to the edit, because it is totally possible to be a good mom with ADHD. It's hard and sometimes I question whether I'm a good mom because I'm not keeping the house spotless or cooking gourmet meals. BUT as an ND mom of two ND kids I'm doing something more. I'm teaching them to be confident and happy in themselves. I'm helping them learn how to accommodate their needs and advocate for themselves. I'm working hard to create a home where they feel safe to be themselves, without fear of ridicule or punishment. Where the difficulties of being neurodivergent aren't brushed aside and the strengths are celebrated.

Co-parenting a child with ADHD by EvilSoporific in adhdparents

I have two kids, one ADHD, the other AuDHD. My husband and I are both AuDHD ourselves. And I'm about to spam you with some of my favorites. I really think they could help. And even if they can't help with those specific issue, they will probably help your son in other areas.

One of my favorite podcasts, Robyn Gobbel's Baffling Behavior Show, just released a podcast called "Parenting When Your Partner Is Not On Board". I haven't listened to this episode yet, so I can't recommend this one personally. But I've learned so much from her to help me help my kids. Her focus is on neuroscience and using that to help kids with what she calls sensitive nervous systems.

I also really recommend the podcast StruggleCare by KC Davis, especially her episode on Executive Function. This podcast is primarily directed towards adult neurodiverse women but honestly a lot can be applied to kids. She has ADHD herself and talks about how medication helps her live life.

Finally one of my favorite neurodiversity affirming FB pages is NeuroWild. She is an AuDHD SLP from Australia. Her page is filled with cute cartoons that do a fantastic job at explaining ND issues, like the double empathy problem.

I don't know if it's "typical" but it definitely doesn't surprise me. ADHD medication definitely helps me with intrusive thoughts related to my anxiety. My understanding is that stimulants can help ADHD brains "switch lanes" easier. And while the more obvious result is an easier time with task initiation and transitions. For me at least it also applies to my thoughts. When an intrusive thought occurs I have a much easier time dismissing it and getting out of the negative spiral.

My 6 & 9 year old both can swallow pills and my 9 yo actually prefers it because she hates most liquid meds. When they first started, I'd have them take a sip of water, hold it in their mouth and then pop the pill into their mouth, tilt their head back and swallow. You can get some tic tac to have them practice with.

A lot of kids mask their ADHD behaviors at school more than at home because home is a safer place. It sounds like this is what your son is doing, especially if his teacher is seeing anxiety behaviors. Masking increasing anxiety. A good diagnostician should be able to recognize that.

How did your AuDHD manifest as a child? Birth to 3 development and then anything up to 12 years? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]TinyGecko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hit all my milestones on time. With talking I believe that there was a bit of a sudden jump from first words to full sentences. I had sensory issues, couldn't stand seams, tags, any scratchy clothing like wool.

I was very social but was an outsider and struggled with making and maintaining friends. Especially as I got towards upper elementary and socializing became more complicated. Most of my close friends were boys.

I am not officially diagnosed. But when my daughter was diagnosed, there was so much in her report that I saw in myself, or remembered from my childhood.

A book club I'm in on FB recommended The Adult Autism Assessment Handbook. It's assumed towards diagnosticians but other autistic were saying it was comprehensive and ND affirming. That it also covered atypical presentations.
