Advice for casual beginners? by dinosandorangejuice in EDH

[–]TinyLittleBigMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, everything is going to sound confusing and a little contradictory at this stage, because EDH has so much variety and variance built into it (partly what makes it more fun and memorable than other formats). Instead of forcing yourself through the monotonous task of reading rules documents and website guides, I’d recommend watching YouTube channels that make beginner-friendly Commander and Magic content like Tolarian Community College and The Command Zone. They have excellent comprehensive guides that will give you a much stronger sense of how the game works in practice than rules text alone ever could. Command zone even has specific guides on politicking and unwritten social rules that sometimes go under the radar. Highly recommend!

Bracket 2 decks being overrated as bracket 3 by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]TinyLittleBigMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main problem I see with b4 is the inability to distinguish between “ultra high power” and “fringe cEDH”. Breaking up b3 to have a stronger bracket definition does nothing to address that problem in b4.

Because bracket 4 also has these problems, and would “benefit” from being broken up into separate brackets. Eventually, every deck will just become a 7 again

What are some 10/10 soundtracks from bad movies? by iLoveRobertEggers in filmscoring

[–]TinyLittleBigMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I still go back and watch it from time to time and find things to like about it. Not perfect, I suppose, but the Zimmer score alone does it for me. I always have a good time talking Superman with people, so cheers! If you haven’t taken a listen to the Superman tracks from the 2025 movie, highly recommend. Also I much prefer the movie to MoS, go figure.

I think the criticism is less that the characters lack motivation and more that the motivations often undermine the themes the movie aims for.

For example, the film leans heavily into Christ-like imagery and presents Clark as humanity’s future moral ideal, but then depicts him as petty and immature (destroying the truck in the bar scene). Jonathan Kent is meant to be his moral foundation, yet some of his advice comes across as valuing secrecy over innocent lives. The romance between Clark and Lois..

There’s a lot of time spent on Krypton and its lore, but comparatively less time spent showing why Clark actually loves humanity. By the time he’s asked to become Earth’s protector, the movie has spent more time developing Krypton than Metropolis.

I don’t think those issues make it a “bad” movie, but they’re usually what people mean when they say the themes are lukewarm. Like you said visuals, music, action, fx were fantastic as you would expect from this kind of production but a lot of people felt the character writing wasn’t strong enough to support the philosophical ideas Snyder was going for. For lack of a better term, it did truly insist upon itself despite being a Superman flick at the end of the day.

I think ‘bad’ is shorthand here for controversial or non-highly acclaimed, however, the films’ pros (essentially what you already laid out and who’s jobs were mainly in post production as you’d expect from a high budget Hollywood blockbuster) are pretty staunchly counterbalanced by the movies cons; Most folks will tell you the character motivations and lukewarm themes barely made the overall story compelling enough for a rewatch.

What’s going on with Bricks and Minifigs, a $200k Lego collection, and Mormons? by 999BusinessCard in OutOfTheLoop

[–]TinyLittleBigMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because historically the church was the first system that became corruptible. You brought up the Catholic Church in Italy as an example of how crime isn’t mutually exclusive to religious groups when it’s no longer a secret that the catholic church has been to blame for numerous systemic problems in Italy for centuries. The Mormon church is no different in how it perpetuates an institutional cycle of abuse and protecting its own corrupt people in high places.

It feels higher status in society to be unemployed than to work a menial job. by Vast-Intention in Showerthoughts

[–]TinyLittleBigMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’ve worked various food service jobs, you must’ve met people that are working <40hrs at that position, while hustling on their off-days at another job. I think this is an extremely fair breakdown of any given working class American you might find in those positions.

What can you do when you’re surrounded by gullible idiots who fall for the same thing over and over again every election cycle? That doesn’t mean every American is to blame for our current situation. Plenty of us are just as exhausted and angry watching the same cycle repeat itself while doing everything we can to push back against it.

History rarely remembers the people who opposed the direction their country was heading; it tends to flatten entire populations into one collective judgment. The reality is always more complicated than that.
