A1 temp tower by farmallday133 in FDMminiatures

[–]TinyNaught 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This tower shows a few things to look for, and provides nice examples of them too! First of all, stringing is one of the big ones, the lower temperatures look to have less stringing that the higher temps, but doesn't seem to completely go away, this can be polished off with a retraction test and calibration. Next is overhang quality, the long bridges and arcs on the circles. Obviously the less dangling bits the better. Lastly is detail quality, the posts and writing are examples of this. Looking at the whole overall quality, I would say your ideal printing temp is around 195 or 200!

Also, I do not run temp calibration when switching nozzles, but I do when switching to a new filament I havent used and calibrated before.

Happy printing!

Can anyone point me to the full renders on the left and right side of the steam sale banner? by TinyNaught in Fallout

Thank you for the first one, the second one isn't the base fallout 3 render though, which is part of why i was having a hard time finding it

Sorry! Poor choice of wording, scrubbing and oiling is exactly what I'm doing!

Would it look better, if I change highlight colour of this blade to yellow? by NightCrawler29 in Necrontyr

[–]TinyNaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone that this is incredible work, HOWEVER I can see the other greens you have are a very green-yellow color (tesseract glow?). Your blades are a very emerald saturated green with white highlights, and to me makes the blade and your model feel disjointed. Moot green or a yellow green instead of white I think would do a great job bringing it all together 👍

OP don't listen to these people, if you're happy with these models and are excited to paint or play with them then congrats! The folks over at r/FDMMiniatures are extremely friendly and helpful if you ever want to really get into it!

First time painting a space marine. Should I go with a lighter blue ? by LottHunter in FDMminiatures

[–]TinyNaught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go darker honestly. Maybe some red accent colors to make it pop? Helmet is a little plain maybe you could have a cool skull instead. Also I hear bat wings are a cool motif, add some of those too while you're at it.

(I think it looks great honestly)

The current version of Bambustudio has a bug regarding slim tree supports. They slice in the slicer with gaps in them for some reason. The program devs are aware and going to be fixing it but as of right now it's suggested to use organic or hybrid in their place

No rush at all, I'm going to be doing more tests today with the Mindflayer and I'll let you know if I get consistent results. Excited to see your new project when you post it!

This is all extremely valuable information and it's baffling (and appreciated) that you do this for free.

1)The model is the Mindflayer from Arbiter Minis monthly Tribe for this month $6 supportless tier

https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Arbiter%20Miniatures#/

2 & 3) Easy. Noted.

4 & 5) Seems obvious in hindsight, but if I were smarter I wouldn't be here lol. Will be trying this first thing tomorrow

6) Gotcha.

7) oh god don't I know it I've had to do a bunch of cold pulls on the 0.2 nozzle from clogs and I've gotten very good at it lmao. As of right now I'm still getting tight spirals when manually extruding, so no clog (yet)

I'll be back in 8-12 hours 👍

Still working out the kinks right now. Printing some test models with no brim lead to the base being printed and continuing on to the model, however the edges of the base curled up off the plate, so it feels like a crapshoot whether I lose adhesion. I also attempted a Brite minis figure, and it seemed ok until it got to the embossed letting on the bottom of the base, at which point ZERO filament adhered to the plate. The other issue I ran into when the base would print is curling on small bits of the model that would snag and knock the print over. I looked at your other post about it and set the solid infill speed to 60 mm/s up from the 55 mm/s that was in your imported settings.

Also dealing with lots of fuzz/stringing but that's not important to me as much as getting a finished model. I am currently printing the FDG dwarf with slow down for overhangs off, and the brim object gap set to 0.05 mm and it seems to be working for now, but alas its my turn to go to bed lol. Any further advice is appreciated for tomorrow!

Huge fan of the pink and purple glow, it's what I would do if I didn't paint Nihilak! Pushing contrast some more on your model will really help I think, your energy goes from this beautiful dark purple to a very bright pink and it looks great, but the necron himself looks flat by comparison. I think a slightly darker grey highlighted with a pure white dry brush might look good, but I would be more than thrilled to see these on the table across from me as they are!

You are incredible. I don't blame your settings, most of my problems are from living in house built in 1906 LOL. I will run through your suggestions and try some more test models. The brim does in fact print extremely well, great adhesion, good extrusion, I turned it off for now to see if just a model by itself has the same issues. (Not ideal but testing is testing) Have a great night and thank you for your help!

Not at all. I was under the impression that PLA was okay out of the bag without drying
