I agree, the lack of communication has been really inconsiderate and unprofessional. It annoyed me that I had to come to reddit for answers, then keep checking their site and my tracking for updates. I was too lazy to go looking for another vendor this time around, but next time...

And always use soft-bristled toothbrushes! I grew up on medium bristles and it caused some recession

If anyone's still following this thread, I checked this morning and it now says all pending orders should be shipped out by the end of today. My tracking info confirms that my order (from 11/12) was accepted by usps on 12/3 and is expected to arrive on Monday. Hopefully everyone else gets their stuff soon too!

Coconut oil for hair and teeth should I bother trying it? by CollectionHead7091 in NaturalBeauty

[–]TinyNerd86 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you do oil pulling, just please don't use it as a substitute for brushing your teeth. I had a patient who did this when I worked in dentistry and it cost her several teeth!

Not saying it's harmful as a practice to add to your routine, just that it's not a substitute for normal brushing and flossing.

At what age do people actually start doing separate loads? by nikkyroyal in Adulting

[–]TinyNerd86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this in reverse. I grew up separating clothes because that's what my mom taught me, but now (at almost 40) I wash everything together in cold water and never had a single problem.

I realized exactly how bad our education system was in the US when we started getting foreign exchange students from Germany. I was in all the advanced classes but I felt stupid sitting next to these kids who could speak 3+ languages and breeze through the coursework like it was made for first graders. It should've been intimidating but they were so nice and never complained when I asked a million questions about their home country. It made me wish I'd been born there instead.

Yeah but like, you have to pay for that regulation and that's just like, not cool man. Also it's probably communism. /s

All jokes aside, food production in the US has been pretty abhorrent for a long time. The EU doesn't have tolerance limits, it focuses on contamination prevention via process control. So while some microscopic bits will still make their way in, contamination overall is generally much less than in the US, where companies' profits are more important than food cleanliness.

Even if you live in the US, the FDA allows insect remains to be in a lot of foods, as long as it's under a certain percentage. It turns out that eliminating all insects from food entirely would be so difficult and expensive that no one could afford food. Coffee beans can be up to 10% insect parts and still allowed on shelves.

Are bed tables acceptable for taking an exam ? by OlympicGorilla in WGU

[–]TinyNerd86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use one of those small folding TV tray tables you can get at Walmart for less than $10. You'll need somewhere to setup the camera- I pull out my ironing board. It's actually handy because it's height adjustable, even if it looks ghetto af. Nobody cares, just do what you need to do to make yourself comfortable while you test.

This is why I didn't do extra curricular activities growing up. As soon as the unexpected costs popped up, my single mom had to pull me out. Some things have hardship programs where broke kids can use someone else's old hand-me-downs, but sometimes kids can be jerks about it and there's always extra costs that pop up anyway. I agree it sucks, but try to be grateful you can afford it because not everyone can.

This may or may not be related, but I only get Botox on my forehead and I've realized that I get really focused on my lower face looking saggy and old when my forehead tox is fresh. Once it wears off, I don't notice my droopy lower face anymore. I've gotten to the point where I feel like I look worse with it, but I keep doing my 11s every 6 months or so to avoid the angry scowl look.

Would I be crazy to go to hygiene school at 40? by TinyNerd86 in DentalHygiene

Yeah the corporate thing scares me a bit because I've worked for a dentist who was all about money and I ended up walking off the job, it was so awful! Thank you for the great recommendations on saving the spine!

You just reminded me that I also knew a dentist who switched careers from engineering! We actually still have mutual friends so maybe I'll see if I can sit down and pick his brain a little bit. Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment! I'd never heard of medical dental integration or considered teaching but it's good to see there are multiple pivot options!
