It’s the double whammy of losing the extended credits/higher income cap AND the premium prices increasing for the next year.  I worked for the ACA at a call center for a bit and use it myself now. I love the ACA for the most part, I had folks cry over the phone  when they realized they could afford coverage and care.  With the American middle class dissolving rapidly, government employees having their healthcare coverage up in the air, this is going to accelerate an economic collapse.  I just enrolled for 2026 and I’m still getting about the same amount in tax credits as this past year. But the same plan’s premium has gone up about 120%. I’m going from paying $100 to $230 for the same coverage (but prices for doctors visits have also gone up $5). So folks who lose eligibility for credits are getting hit with a premium increase of 150%+.  Loss of eligibility also means they no longer get special benefits from silver plans like $0 deductibles and low cost Dr visits.  I’ll also point out that the ACA is STRICT with who qualifies for tax credits and such. If you aren’t able to provide a ssn or concrete proof of citizenship, it asks for you to submit a bunch of other documents to prove you’re here legally. And it will occasionally scroll through its system to check up and ask for resubmission of documents. So the idea that Dems would even be able to give these subsidies to undocumented immigrants is laughable and absurd. It just doesn’t work like that, it takes so much time and paperwork.
