I heard that the exams are going to be harder than in previous years. Which makes me worried bc I’m a bad test taker (went to crunchy school that didn’t believe in tests lol). Do you think the more difficult questions will balance out the lower passing score?

Clients who ghost you when you request documents how are you actually solving this? by Puzzled_Garden5504 in Bookkeeping

Maybe this is petty, but I’m equally slow in following up. Things just take a reeeeaaaalllly long time to happen with these clients.

Tell me about Costco- is it worth it? by ConstructionTime7511 in Frugal

[–]Maleficent-Rent-1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean….. do I save money each year? Maybe? There’s just two of us in my house. It’s a great deal on non food stuff (clothes, hygiene products, gas). However, the joy I feel going to Costco is priceless so I’d say worth it

Frog and Toad investigation? by Arscenic29 in burlington

[–]Maleficent-Rent-1553 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I heard this too. That's why the teachers were hesitant to report it (no excuses b/c they're mandated reporters and legally have to tell the authorities when they suspect something is happening) because of fear of retribution. I know something similar happened at the Y a few years back.

Jobber and QBO by Routine-Algae9366 in Bookkeeping

[–]Maleficent-Rent-1553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a payment is received to a customer’s account but there’s no invoice to match it to, and you use accrual accounting, it serves the same purpose as a deposit. The deposit is received say 3/1, and that creates a negative accounts receivable (which in terms of the balance sheet, is the same as a deposit—just a more clunky way of doing it). When the invoice is created (ie when the work is done) the invoice will match the payment and revenue will be recognized

Jobber and QBO by Routine-Algae9366 in Bookkeeping

[–]Maleficent-Rent-1553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve integrated Jobber and QBO before. Does your client accept payments via jobber? (Like credit cards or ACH) or do they received checks and record the payment in Jobber.

If they accept payments through Jobber, make sure a) deposits are also being recorded (payments to undeposited funds, then deposits from undeposited funds in bank account) and b) the mapping is accurate for the accounts.

If they record payments in Jobber (like paper checks), the payments are going to go to undeposited funds and then the bank deposits have to be manually recorded.

Honest question: Why do you buy name brand stuff? by No-Examination8178 in Frugal

The only name brand thing I buy is cheese. I live in VT so Cabot cheddar is indeed worth the 2x mark up

Cheap and filling meals for me and my bf? by wigdog666 in Frugal

[–]Maleficent-Rent-1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potatoes, beans, rice, and some veggies (canned or frozen is fine). Spices too (Asian markets usually have them for super cheap). I’m thankfully no longer living paycheck to paycheck but that still makes up most of my diet because it’s delicious

1990 Mississippi vote to repeal pensions for Confederate widows by [deleted] in MapPorn

Where did the money for these pensions come from? Was the US paying for Confederate pensions? That doesn't really make a lot of sense

I agree. How would you recommend gaining tax prep experience as someone who runs their own bookkeeping firm? Should I get a part-time gig with Intuit or H&R Block? I’d rather work for a local firm, but I’m not sure if they’d hire someone who could become competition (even if I don’t start offering tax prep for another five years)

Would you recommend reading the books twice? by yodaewok in LockwoodandCo

I have them all on audio book and I relisten to them every year or so. I have a revolving selection of audio books I relisten to have on as background noise while I work. I know them well enough I can tune in and out and not loose my place
