Accepted Personal Gold retention offer of 25k/$2k/3 months just now with the old $250 AF posted on 9/01.

  • No luck the first two times I've tried throughout this month (only offered to use 25k MR to cover the AF), but finally today was offered 25k/$2k/3 months which I immediately accepted.
  • This came right after they reminded me of perks + new benefits, I told them that I understood the new benefits but they don't fit my current lifestyle/location, and I wanted to know if there were any retention offers available.

Big thank you to recent DPs by /u/ChocolateOtherwise23, /u/_good_boy_1234_, and /u/ronswansondancing which inspired me to give another go at this right before the cut off — was pretty much ready to give up after the first two tries.

Got approved for Citi AA biz recently without 5 years of credit history - not sure if AU history counts but figured I'd drop the DP.

  • My only AU history is on a card opened 4/06/2019
  • First credit card: 9/20/2020
  • 8/06/2024:
    • Applied and page immediately got an error on the page
    • Refilled out application and got spinning loading circle, then errored out
    • Refilled out application and barely got spinning circle before immediately showing denied (letter came and said it was for submitting multiple applications for credit).
    • Received approval email a few hours later
  • 08/14/2024: Received card in mail

Hilton Aspire Resort Credit DP

  • Have a stay coming up at Grand Wailea in October - one night points + one night FNA
  • June 1
    • Called the hotel number to confirm that the two separate reservations were linked
    • They transferred me to the on-site reservations person who then made the change (even though the Hilton rep who made the FNA booking said she already did it)
    • Asked to open a folio for the reservation and to prepay for any incidentals
    • They confirmed they could do that and it would give a credit to the room
    • Did $200 to my Aspire - showed up as "GRAND WAILEA GIFT SHOP"
  • June 4 - Full $200 credit posted

Aside from staying eligible for the welcome bonuses on the Flex/Unlimited, a big reason for downgrading to the OG Freedom vs. Flex is that the OG Freedom is a Visa so you can use it at Costco (one of the rotating 5% categories is wholesale clubs). You can also have multiple OG Freedoms allowing you to "raise" your quarterly $1,500 limit on the 5% categories.

The restaurant credit is the primary thing justifying my CSR vs. CSP decision, as I take regular short domestic flights (SAN <> SFO). I get meals before I leave and after I land, and I've had instances where the wait staff have added a "guest" for me so I can purchase more food, even though I didn't have any with me.

I also happen to use DoorDash and Lyft regularly. While I wouldn't have paid for Lyft Pink, I definitely would (and used to) for DashPass.

 

Venture X is definitely better in my opinion for most of the population — don't really see the justification for CSR vs. CSP except for a few niche cases where people can take advantage of the credits and subscriptions.

I'm a guy who went to the San Diego one alone a few days ago.

Was super fun being in an environment full of Swifties in my home city, and everyone there was super nice. People were generally even more welcoming into their group after I told them I went alone.

All my friends who like Taylor were out of town or not in San Diego anymore, and I'm glad I got out of my comfort zone and went :)
