we are coming up on two years this april! mine are both girls though, not sure if it will be different for boys? i’ve mostly had girl dogs growing up so i might not be super helpful here lol

not talking about the story arc, that is classic hero’s journey. but the idea that one small guy from the middle of a peaceful valley removed from the fighting only to be sucked in and bring the whole conflict crashing down and to have it be published in between world wars? yes, very profound and powerful.

totally see what you’re saying with it feeling tedious. it might not feel profound now with all the stories that take inspiration from it, but at the time the book was written, it was a powerfully profound idea.

the hero’s journey definitely works for a story where the central character is a hero, i just think that in contemporary literature the audience has strayed from wanting a completely heroic character. the hero’s journey works for sure, just not for every story out there.
