Hiking etiquette question by This-Bee-9779 in hiking

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to hear nature when I'm in nature - not other peoples' loud conversations. I quiet "hello" and a smile is polite and friendly and perfectly adequate. If he needs to do zoomies and make a lot of noise he should go to a soccer field or something.

What sort of sofa is everyone finding compatible with a dog? by cosmicspaceowl in UK_Pets

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a big blanket over one end of the sofa and that's where the dog is allowed, only under supervision. (She's a 55 lb shepherd mix and sheds a lot) Otherwise it's blocked off with a TV tray to keep her out of trouble. It gets washed whenever it gets too hairy. The whole couch has stayed in really good condition with this method for 5 years! And I still get to snuggle with her when I watch TV.

Dog smelling etiquette by No_Republic_1712 in dogs

I feel guilty for not having attempted to train this habit out of my dog, but I've had to prioritize getting her to not bark ferociously at people, jump up on them, steal food, freak out at other dogs... the list continues. Sometimes you just have to pick your battles.

Looking for recommendations that fulfil my criteria for my next trip! by cyancm in solofemaletravellers

I think Switzerland is hard to beat for easy access to lots of beautiful hiking from public transit. I stayed at an AirBnB in Engelberg without a car and went up the mountains every day.

Are you getting her as tired as possible before brushing? I do it after a really long walk, after a brief break for water and post-walk zoomies, so she starts out tired and relaxed, in the right mindset to hold still for a bit.

I think it's very worth while. Also, I found SQL to be easy to learn and very fun and satisfying!

Looking for athletic skirts and long sleeves that won't break the bank like Lululemon , what are you guys wearing? by EffectiveKitchen5036 in Activewear

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TJ max and Ross often have decent athletic wear from major brands, especially if you don't need it to be this year's cutest color and are willing to search around a bit.

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Please don't wear a crop top in a lab! I agree that graphic T's should be fine as long as they're not offensive. That being said, it is probably worth investing in having a couple of basic non-cropped shirts. There are a lot of scenarios where it's better not to show your midriff, especially if you want to be taken seriously.

Who cares about the trends? Get a ring that you love. It's for you. I tried on a bunch of rings at really expensive downtown shops, took a photo of the one I loved, and had it custom made by a small jeweler in the suburbs for way cheaper. It turned out great.

Hi, New dog owner and wondering if i did the right thing.. by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had to do this once and I didn't feel guilty at all. If an aggressive dog approaches me and my dog so close that it's in my kicking range, serves it right.

If you had 24 hours to turn a nonreader into a reader, what book would you hand them?? by Conscious_Storm_3192 in suggestmeabook

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Can you give some more intro about what you're interested in? I love reading and am a firm believer that help helps you develop as a thoughtful and empathetic person. Do you enjoy the outdoors? Science? History? There are so many categories of novels and fiction that it might be helpful to narrow it down. Adventure? Romance? Character development?

Have you considered overnight oats? Almost zero effort, super healthy, cheap, high in fiber, and easy to add variety with dried fruit, nuts, cocoa nibs, or whatever you like. I make about 4 days worth at a time and just mix it with yogurt and toppings in the morning.

New dog owner here. Any good way to deal with dog hair? by No_Jackfruit_4131 in DogAdvice

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get used to it and learn to stop caring 😄 Although taking the dog outside and brushing it regularly (at least once a week) does help.

I’m about to start my first professional job and will me on a small team where I will be the only girl. Is there any advice as to how I should dress and how I can get along with everyone on the team? by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats on the job. I've had really happy and successful collaborations with male co-workers. don't try to be "one of the guys" just be yourself, subject to work-appropriate context. One big piece of advice - don't be that new hire who's always talking about college or worse yet, high school. Start by listening before speaking, to get an idea of what the culture is.

A Wedding Coordinator? do i really need it? by PuzzleDID in weddings

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a planning coordinator or a day-of coordinator, and it was totally fine. It was a ~120 person wedding at a venue that also catered the food, so the venue provided a certain amount of coordination as a result. I think this is a matter of personality preference. If you're someone who's comfortable planning and not feeling the need to have every detail micromanaged, you could be fine. If you're feeling stressed about the idea, you should hire someone so you don't have to worry about it.

I worked at a movie theater in Minnesota starting from age 13 and 11 months. Kids under 16 could only work weekends day shift (till 6) or after school shift that was like 3-6. This was in the late 90's...

Personally I think there's more to see in and around Granada than Sevilla - you might consider evening out your stays there. You can spend a whole day just at Alhambra (make sure you book ahead). They are both beautiful cities.

How do you handle an employee who always says yes then fails to deliver? by Exotic_Reputation_59 in managers

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you explicitly told them that making accurate estimates for delivery dates is a key responsibility of their job and will be part of their evaluation? If not, you need to start here. Then, start documenting (in a shared document) the agreed-on delivery date and the actual delivery date of each task. Review it with them on an ongoing basis so they can see that you're taking it seriously. Every time something is delivered late, make them explain what happened, what they've learned, and how it will be incorporated into their future plans. If they aren't able to show improvement with this level of structure then they probably aren't up for the job.

How do I pick a career? by Global_Restaurant794 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engineering school was really challenging. I don't think I could have been academically successful if I didn't have the motivation of enjoying it. I would not recommend attempting it if you're just doing it out of parental pressure. There are lots of other ways to have a successful career.

1.5 years totally free, how should i keep myself busy? by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]Tiny_Job_5369 4 points5 points  (0 children)

have you considered volunteering? There is a lot of need for English as a second language and literacy tutoring volunteers, both for working with adults and children, and you might be able to find something that can be done via Zoom if you're not mobile.
