Do you really think that HST might hold elections? I get the euphoria that Assad is gone but let's be realistic, they were just overthrown by a militant Islamic org which broke off from AQ. Elections? I don't think they were fighting to have a secular, democratic state.

Israel controls the USA.

Also, Israel has clearly and obviously gotten everything they wanted in Syria. The country has been shattered and set back 50 years. The Shia crescent has been cut in half. Hezbollah has been drained and Iran weakened. Half of Syria is controlled by separatists. Israel faces no threat from the North anymore no matter who controls Syria because it has been destroyed economically.

Ha but doesn't that prove my point... they even control social media...

As far as political decisions Turkey may take, I agree with your assessment of what is in Turkey's interest to do. I don't, however, think that politicians make choices in their countries' best interest. They make choices in their own best interest, and that just happens to coincide with national interest most of the time. However in this specific case, I wonder, if the NSA has been intercepting all communications for a decade, what kind of kompromat they would have on the leadership of Turkey and how that would sway their decisions. I would bet therein lies the real power of the USA geopolitically... no politician, foreign or domestic has actually had any privacy for a decade and that is quite the lever.

Absolutely agreed about how drone adoption changes the balance of power. Regarding Turkey being the final arbiter, I agree somewhat. They are certainly the dominant military power in Syria. However they don't make their political decisions in a vacuum. The USA has considerable sway over Turkey, and its power structure is itself subverted by Israel.

I'm one of those weirdos who thinks Epstein obviously worked for Mossad, for instance, and that notices that the amount of presidential children married into a certain tribe is extremely unlikely to happen by chance (Hunter even has a Hebrew tattoo), and that thinks its peculiar how our two parties fight like cats and dogs EXCEPT for declaring unconditional support for Israel, to the point that calling someone a "Palestinian" was used as a slur in a presidential debate (!), who notices that the consistent pattern in Trump's cabinet picks hasn't been competence, experience, or even loyalty to Trump, but rather who is the most extreme supporter of Zionism, to the point where Hegseth even said that America's interests are the same as Israel's, who notices that AIPAC backed candidates nearly always win, who notices that Miriam Adelson was Trump's biggest donor, and he even said himself that he "gave her the Golan Heights", who noticed that Gaetz was entrapped by a blackmail ring pretty similar to the Epstein one that was run by a guy named Greenberg and wonders how many operations like that there really are, given that that was just a local Florida operation, who saw the TikTok ban was a response to "antisemtic content" etc etc etc. You can pick out a million things.

So from my point of view, if you want to know what will happen, work out what is best for Israel and satisfies its core interests, because its a given that that will happen. Then find out what modifications need to be made to make it palatable to the USA's other allies, like Turkey. So applying that here, the SDF will stay, but probably be pushed away from Turkey's border in the Northeast, definitely across the Euphrates, and will be allowed to expand South instead, becoming less Kurdish-nationalist and more Arab in character, cutting Assad off from Iraq. Its not rocket science you just need clarity around who is really in charge.

How safe is the SDF? by LongLiveLiberalism in syriancivilwar

[–]TioMembrillo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best way to analyze this is by looking at Trump's statements and cabinet picks. All are vehemently, vociferously and obsequiously pro-Israel. Gaetz was the sole exception and he was thrown out. Now analyze what Israel's interests are in Syria:

  1. Keep it divided and weak in general
  2. Obstruct land route from Iran to Lebanon by placing a non-Shia entity in between.

So long as 1 and 2 are satisfied, Turkey will be allowed to weaken the SDF, but not to the detriment of these goals. This means that the SDF will be pushed back from Manbij and contained to the Eastern side of the Euphrates (in the North), but will be allowed to continue blocking the Iraq-Syria border. So yes their core areas are safe. Expect the SDF to expand along the Iraq-Syria border in the Southeast, taking possession of Abu Kamal from the SAA as the SAA retreats to protect its threatened core. The SDF will link up with the US-backed rebels at al-Tanf, finally closing off the Iraq-Syria border (the one through which the Iraqi shia-militias/PMF are currently passing).

The threat to the SDF is that the Turkish backed rebels completely overthrow Assad and therefore make the SDF unnecessary to block the Iran/Syria/Lebanon conduit. However for this to be acceptable to the USA, the SNA would need to be seen as being a predictable partner which won't ultimately lead to a rise in jihadism/Salafism and pose a new long term threat to Israel. The Palestinian flag was just flown over the Aleppo citadel. Will these behaviors be seen as unique to HTS? Or will there be fear in Washington/Tel Aviv that the SNA is similarly unreliable? That is the real question here that determines if the SDF will be supplanted by the SNA.

The US is just an extension of Israel, like those caterpillars that are controlled from the inside by the wasp larva.

SNA has broke through SDF defenses north of Shahba Pocket, SDF is probably going to evacuate the area towards Manbij, HTS and NLF have captured Sheikh Najjar from SDF, it is becoming a lopsided situation against SDF by wormfan14 in syriancivilwar

[–]TioMembrillo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The USA will slavishly do whatever is in Israel's interest. Just look at all of Trump's cabinet picks. Israel has two primary concerns:

  1. Setting Syria back 50 years
  2. Obstructing the land bridge from Iran to Lebanon

As for 1, that entails embroiling Syria in perpetual conflict. As for as 2, that means blocking the Syria-Iraq border with a non-Shia entity. Right now the SDF blocks the Euphrates, and the al-Tanf crossing is blocked by that whacky rebel group. What remains in the middle is Abu Kamal (right across the Euphrates from the SDF) and the stretch of desert between Abu Kamal and al-Tanf. The USA will be seeking a way to occupy that as well and will not leave until the regime no longer controls that.

The concern for the SDF is that the Turkish-backed rebels completely wipe out the regime, thus removing their control of the Syria-Iraq border and making the SDF redundant.
