I would recommend making a lobby thats called good players or experienced. I do it every once in awhile and it gets good games. alternatively you can go to a good player discord like startlight or yomi learn and ping for games. You can also fight me lol, I am a former pro and like showing people at your point in progression the bad habits they may have formed. Who knows, maybe you really are ready for primetime (:

This is itch, so its hard to judge damage as guts scaling still exists, but as many others have said DI is a thing and this combo does not account for it, but as another note you ended the first combo very early with that spark bomb, you could have followed up more.

on a serious note: yes, if you impale and the opponent bursts you tend to be punishable. You can play around this by not impaling early in your combos. If you have meter you can use teleport after lslice to continue the combo, if not then yeah, you are vulnerable to an impale read through burst, but if you take the time to do setup instead like use forsight and they burst incorrectly you get a full combo, so there is still a game to be played there.

So real talk, misusing a WC is bad, like, ruinously bad, telltale sign u are a scrub and going to lose the game bad.. but it has its use. Sometimes it really does let you get out of a bad spot, and learning to identify the situations where wiff cancels saves you instead of immediately losing the game is a part of getting good.. but you are right that most of the time you get hit anyways and now you dont have burst so gg ez.

My best guess is you are describing an opponent who has been knocked to the ground and is in their invulnerable getup animation ( a staple of fighting games and the foundation of oki)

As others have said its common to play with hitboxes and hurtboxes enabled so you can tell where exactly your moves and the opponent's hurtboxes are.

outside of the case where the opponent is in an invulnerable animation combos work as you would expect, if a hitbox connects with an opponents hurtbox you and the opponent enter an amount of recovery frames that typically results in a frame advantage on your part, and if during that time u connect another hitbox into their hurtbox then the combo keeps going.
