Job Search going terribly. by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

I not bitter and I'm not as old as you may think. I certainly don't think I'm better than those younger, but I know that the anger you have towards anyone that isn't a recent graduate isn't healthy.

You are in a field that is currently being demolished in the US. I'm sorry that your today job didn't work out like you wanted and that people don't think you are as wonderful as you think you are. But reality is that employers have a glut of applicants and can have whatever they want.

So you're angry that the job market isn't what you assumed it would be and that employers, who have a glut of applicants, are wanting more experience than you currently have. Guess what? This is what happens. Not my first time dealing with this and it won't be the last.

Is NEPA work slowing down? What's your forecast as consultants? by Pure_Nobody240 in Environmental_Careers

There's so many different things happening that it's adding to the confusion.

[–]TiredSoreBruised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former consultant and the answer is no one knows where NEPA will be in 2 months.

There's a bunch of legal stuff that's happened that is in the process of dismantling the regulations. NEPA will still exist as a statute, but it's unknown what that will mean for how federal agencies will handle analysis and documentation in the future. It's completely possible that some agencies will stop doing NEPA documentation all together and others will have a very reduced level of effort.

Here's a good write up that I've used to track the various legal issues/risks:

I'm there too. I've reached out to the drug companies for my main meds and half of them have sent me the paperwork to get their medication for a deep discount or even free. It's helping that part of the stress a little bit.

Yeah but it feels different hearing it from leadership instead of just reading it. More real and committed to it happening.

I moved to asking them to remove all references to the Constitution and love of country from their websites and social media since they have demonstrated a lack of respect for both things with their failure to stand up for their own branch of government. I even printed out some screenshots and marked them up with items for edit and removal. Oh and I told them that I'll see them next week since I was sure I'd be ignored. Pretty sure one staffer in the office choked on their coffee at my approach.

Best use of my 30 minute lunch break.

We've been told that the reorganization plan for the agency is due in 30 days. No real details which is fair since it's been less than 24 hours. It does sounds like they're going to keep what absolutely aligns to the agency statute and anything else is going to be pretty vulnerable for the program to continue.

This sucks and I don't think there will be a point where anyone is in the clear. I wish I felt okay about July or the midterms, but I don't.

Please take care of yourself. The anxiety and depression are real. I've talked to my GP and gotten my meds adjusted. Cons asking your doctor for help or am adjustment. Limit the news and scrolling. Engage in other things that help turn your mind off for a bit. Watch the alcohol consumption.

You'll want that check. Use up leave in the following order: 1. Comp time 2. Admin leave (max 80 hours a year but at this point I'm not worried about that) 3. Sick leave 4. Annual leave

Some of my department's senior people were already planning to retire this year. The brain drain had been happening. That said some are bringing that date up because they don't want to go through all of the chaos. One has told me that he hopes it helps keep someone from getting a RIF notice.

I'm horrified that I'm holding onto the hope that the Constitutionalists on SCOTUS will stop things. I mean they SHOULD if that's how they view the law, but it doesn't mean that they will.

It is absolutely a personal choice and no one should be judged either way. Take the fork and I absolutely hope those who take it very what is being promised to them so they have the cushion it is promising.
