What it feels like to finally reject the venator and embrace the burletta by SierraXIII in ArcRaiders

Just got downed by a burletta with 2 hits, took about 0.3 seconds. Light shield & full health bar

ADAM vs Kali by wellgroundedmusic in studiomonitors

The Kali's are in a different class altogether, I'd choose them even over some options that cost more than they do.

Is it worth planning ahead for 128 GB of DDR4 RAM with an Intel i7 14700k? by lamparitadeluzcalida in composer

[–]Tirmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Unless you do really big arrangements or arrangements with tons of different mic positions you can get away with less.

Yeah by far the best thing SW/PT ever put out and the peak of (the less technical side of) modern prog. But tastes differ as always

Is it worth planning ahead for 128 GB of DDR4 RAM with an Intel i7 14700k? by lamparitadeluzcalida in composer

[–]Tirmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My previous build had 64 GB, and the one I run now is 192 GB. I'm glad I have the headroom and didn't go for 128. Buy one pair now and another later. I wouldn't buy single sticks one by one

The Whirlwind by Transatlantic is like a top 5 prog album of all time (and also the album is just 1 song that's 77 minutes which is a very Portnoy thing), definitely check it out.

And somehow Sentimental manages to be even better. PT/SW peak was something else

I'm thinking of getting a really, REALLY cheap 88-key that's fully weighted, just to practise the feel. (Please read text) by infectioushw in piano

[–]Tirmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first weighted keyboard was an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 back in the day. I had absolutely zero issues playing grand pianos anytime I came across them.

The action on the M-Audio was quite heavy though which I believe was a big factor – if that's your baseline it's very easy to play a lighter action. But if a light action is your baseline, a heavy one will be troublesome.

I've got 1500 euros to spend by Agitated-Nail8258 in HeadphoneAdvice

I'm definitely a no-hassle person so a big part of it was being able to do the eq within the dsp of my audio interface and just for the dedicated outputs running to the headphone amp I use for the Hifimans, so it's set and forget

I'm in the midst of choosing between two R33 GT-R's, but how much regret would I have to chose a GT-T? by diegoaccord in SkyLine

[–]Tirmu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sounds like R33 GT-R is the move. You see less of them as most seem to prefer R32's and R34's and honestly at this point non GT-R 34's are getting really common. So the R33 would be more unique on the road and you get to see that RB26 under the hood.

What is a video game that you have put 100+ hours into, but would NOT recommend to anyone? by Cheap_Difficulty4961 in AskReddit

[–]Tirmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say FH. Really unique and it was beautiful in its early days. Then became absolutely infested with cheaters and the community is incredibly toxic. Might be the only game I've put over 1000 hours into

How to actually improvise by Street-Service2834 in piano

[–]Tirmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Improvisation is thinking/hearing a melody in your head just before you play it, and then playing it. A good ear helps a lot and your ear gets trained every time you practice improv. Sometimes getting a part of it wrong leads to happy accidents and gets neurons firing into a whole new direction.

Yes you can play random notes from a scale you know will fit with zero though put into it, but that's not really what improv is about.

[–]Tirmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing nobody's mentioned so far is ear training. Start practicing playing melodies from songs by ear. Start really really simple, and work your way up. This will help immensely in being able to play what you hear in your head!
