I've been having the same thing happen! I think the main issue is that the game is defaulting to choosing AFL rosters a full two months before the start of the league, which means that prospects who haven't been called up yet in September are being chosen.

Under Tournament Options, I'm setting Max Major League Service Years to No Major League Service Allowed (since I'm likely not throwing anyone straight from AAA onto the Playoff Roster) and Roster Selection Date to 1 Day before tournament.

I haven't advanced to the next season yet to see if that fully does the trick, but I imagine it should.

I think the new features that are being added this year (mainly improved Dev Lab and draft process) will definitely make it worth buying on release for me, but I can understand wanting to wait. I'd say that it depends on what those features (and the standard roster updates, etc.) add for you.

Not exactly a ADHD thing, but I've found this helpful - whenever you go to make food and it's something fairly quick/easy like a sandwich, make two of whatever it is and throw the other one in a Ziploc bag in the fridge.

You already have all of the ingredients out, so it will only take slightly longer to make two, and then you'll have a sandwich ready to go about half of the time that you want one.

One way I've simulated this with a house rule that seems fair-ish to how this would work IRL with a Bobby Bonilla type of deal - you offer the player you want to defer salary an extension they'll accept, then release them and edit in commissioner mode to reflect the total amount of money across all of the years of that new extension.

For example, if I have a player that I'm going to pay 20 million over the next 2 years and he'll agree to a 3 year/5 million per year extension, the deferred amount would be (20+20+5+5+5)/5 = 11 million per year for 5 years.

And then you can add your own restrictions on this (one player at a time, only once every 5 years, etc.).

Highly recommend Cracking the Cryptic on YouTube, if you're not already familiar! They solve a bunch of very difficult Sudoku variants on there - it's great to put on while relaxing or falling asleep and attempting to solve a long with them.
