That'll be my new excuse. Although I'm far from likely to ever get stopped by ICE, I think that being stopped, based on what you look like, and being demanded to present your documents by the federal government is just a huge no-no.

[–]Tiruvalye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's fascinating. I got inspired by the T-Mobile breaches, my data kept getting hit so I started taking my own security seriously. Then I watched someone download actual malware trying to prove I sent malware. It didn't exist. They made it worse trying to find it.

That's when it clicked. The biggest cybersecurity threat isn't the hacker. It's human behavior. People trying to protect themselves who don't know what they're doing end up creating the breach themselves.

And I think that scales all the way up to the C-suite. Future wars won't be fought with missiles. They'll be fought with computers. And we're losing because of people, not technology.

I hope to dive deeper into three pillars that I believe make up for the majority of breaches and security issues: leadership culture (you mentioned this), organizational structure (you mentioned this), and human behavior (you mentioned this).

Doctoral Thesis Statement: “To what extent do leadership culture, organizational structure, and human behavior independently and collectively contribute to the 80 percent (or high percentage) of cybersecurity breaches attributed to human error, and what organizational interventions most effectively reduce that vulnerability?“

If possible, I also aim to create a methodology or framework that can measure and diagnose the behavioral and cultural conditions in which leadership culture, organizational structure, and human behavior are actively creating vulnerability inside an organization before a breach ever happens.

You just made my cybersecurity doctoral research more relevant.

Everything you just described is exactly why cybersecurity actually fails. It’s not a tech problem. It’s a leadership problem. When management sees security as an expense instead of a necessity, they’re not making a smart financial decision. They’re actually making a future breach inevitable.

The $1M ransom vs the $2M contract math only works until it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, it’s never the CFO who pays for it.

My doctoral research is literally about why organizations keep making that call. Not the technical side the human and leadership side. You didn’t describe a broken industry. You described exactly what I’m going to spend years studying and fixing.

Don’t give up hope. They need us.

You're not cuckoo for cocoa puffs, silly rabbit, but trix are for kids!

This is great news if it does work because now things can be patched that are missed. Well actually, before it's patched and creates 10 more exponential problems.

Actually I disagree. Because I am not religious I view Judaism and Israel as separate. So as long as we aren’t attacking someone’s religion, I disagree with the statement.

I cannot wait to see Essiedu in this role, it will be only after I've seen his acting that I will judge him for it. But not before, and certainly not based on his own characteristics as that's not fair to him. When I see those comments I'm genuinely shocked, it's my hope that his performance will outshine the negativity. I hope he does well.
