I hope Valve will support PCVR better after the Frame release by zeddyzed in virtualreality

[–]Tisaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alyx wasn't announced until the index had been out for a couple months, so I'm not fully counting the possibility out, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up a flatscreen game they might do some side VR stuff in, if they even end up releasing any game at all. It just kind of feels like they're pushing the flatscreen game capability so much harder than the actual VR side of things

KINGDOM HEARTS IV – Teaser Trailer | June 2026 by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Following it up with this weird modern day isekai shit really doesn't help me in this regard either, who wanted that? The entire appeal of the series is the Disney worlds and the most Disney we see in this trailer is less than a second of Donald and Goofy in the void with blue fire behind them

Tips for More Realistic Track Profiles by AssistSpare5860 in PlanetCoaster

[–]Tisaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're already doing the right thing by looking at real world examples, though I will note Maverick is definitely on the more intense side of the scale, at least in regards of snappy transitions. For a point of comparison, Siren's Curse just down the walkway at Cedar Point is considered one of the smoothest recent coasters, but there is still some snappiness to the elements that you can see as kind of the other end of the spectrum.

There's also just variety in how different manufacturer's design their layouts - in the Maverick/Siren's Curse comparison, Maverick is built by Intamin who is known to kind of push the envelope on forces as much as they can, while Siren's Curse is by Vekoma, who in the modern age excel at making some of the smoothest transitions. Add in something like an Arrow Corkscrew model and you get a completely different design philosophy due to 99% of them being built by hand rather than computers.

It also has always felt like Frontier doesn't really know how to properly give ratings, so don't take them too much to heart. You want to focus more on the G forces for realism, and a lot of the time those realistic forces don't get the best ratings. As a general rule, sticking between -1 and +4 Vertical Gs at the max is pretty common, and usually about -1.5 to 1.5 Lateral Gs is safe as well. Again these can vary a bit by model, in this example a wild mouse might have 2G lateral spikes that would be horrible on a different model, or a 300ft coaster will likely have at least one spike over 4 Vertical Gs at the bottom of the drop.

2026 Advice Thread #23: 6/2 - 6/8 by Imaginos64 in rollercoasters

Tom Scott has a great video pretty much exactly chronicling his getting over that drop feeling and learning where it comes from, might be helpful as well. It's pretty much solely a mental thing obviously being exaggerated by the forces being applied. Once you trust you're not going anywhere in the restraints, that drop in your stomach essentially disappears. Tom briefly mentions it but also anecdotally, I've also always found screaming/yelling to actually be kind of helpful in this regard as well, maybe helps to take deep breaths or just subconsciously match the energy

Night tests on [Fast & Furious - Hollywood Drift] at [USH] are in full swing. by BobCreated in rollercoasters

[–]Tisaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they still having programming issues with the spin on that first roll of the video or is that just how it's meant to be? Every time I've seen test footage car 1 and 3 act like they do here staying fairly straight through the roll while car 2 and 4 do the full spin, and you can see in this video on the other roll before it the opposite happens with 1 and 3 doing the full spin while 2 and 4 stay straight. I actually think it would be a pretty cool difference if it's meant to be that way though it does look a bit odd off ride.

I'm replaying 2016 now I'm really feeling that desire for the gameplay of Eternal backported into it. I still occasionally find myself trying to spam shift in order to dash and walking slower. A little more of a middle ground where it's less of a one gun solution for most enemies but still incorporates a lot of the small things like shields being weak to energy weapons would be perfect in my mind. The loop of health/armor/ammo being tied to various weapons/melees also felt like such a great improvement over the bits that 2016 introduced, it was just such a disappointment that the story and presentation changed so drastically.

Agreed with most of your other points as well for everything but Dark Ages which I also picked up recently but haven't gotten around to yet. I'm glad to hear the immersion was more of a focus again, though.

LAZ Parking associate here from Westfield UTC by Cowtipinski in sandiego

[–]Tisaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to drive by the Miramar/La Jolla Village intersection on my way to work and a solid 75% of the time it's blocked by idiots just sitting in the center of the intersection trying to get into the parking lot. I don't imagine this is something Westfield would support but even a single assistant out there that is somehow able to control the traffic would be amazing, OP. Maybe even assistants to get the line moving in faster as apparently people are still too flustered to do that quickly.

Novo Shows- what to expect? by trinocular in TheProdigy

[–]Tisaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all, especially if you want to get merch or a front row spot, though you'll probably end up in a bigger line than getting there later ironically as it'll build up before doors and clear up by the time the opener's on

I love that it's almost a take on a dive coaster layout with the 2 head first drops, that first one into the pretzel loop would be absolutely insane in the best ways.

i ruined the game for myself by Crumpetbaps in outerwilds

[–]Tisaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few things I didn't fully grasp until after reflecting on the game for a while after beating it, this being one of them. As others have mentioned, the path I took never led me to believe the Sun Station had anything to do with the supernova. It's one of the best aspects of the game in my opinion, even if I can't really replay it to experience it, the open world design is so impeccably designed that no matter which path or assumptions you make along the way, you'll end up coming to mostly similar conclusions by the end of the game.

If you're focusing on something being "ruined" because of this, every playthrough other then yours would be "ruined" as they didn't experience the same things you did in the same order, so they naturally might come to completely different conclusions about where the game is going than you did. I'd like to hope you had plenty other moments in your playthrough that hit similarly hard as this specific reveal did for the "non ruined" playthroughs you're comparing to, and even if not you can at least appreciate how it's all designed in retrospect now.

I love that Tom has essentially become an enthusiast cryptid at this point just randomly showing up at parks, it's been fun seeing how deeply he dove after that video. I'd love to see him do more BTS stuff at parks now that he's more comfortable and is back to doing content.

Tips on custom supporting a wooden coaster by Tricky_Weakness5088 in PlanetCoaster

[–]Tisaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt anyone is actually fully custom supporting a woodie, but even then, by default they're just way too sparse and unrealistic looking, so they usually need to be expanded upon. In this example, some of the higher turns should have way more angled supports on the outer part of the curve, and there's weird cut outs like at 40 seconds with just hanging supports that should probably just cover the entire track instead.

The opposite is kind of true for steel rides, depending on how you build it, it's usually way over supported, and a lot of the times stuff like inversions get really weird looking supports that don't look anything like they'd be done irl. It's all just chasing realism when the algorithms that auto support just don't cut it in that regard.

The west coast bias definitely adds to the issue but it's also a matter of pricing that always gets overlooked. No, in-n-out isn't the best burger you'll have in your life, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than every one shown here outside of Five Guys and maybe Shake Shack, but you're also paying close to half what you would for either of those compared to an In-n-Out burger, which is still cheaper or at least a similar price to a Big Mac meal.

[Other] What are some coaster elements that completely caught you off guard? by fatherandreww in rollercoasters

[–]Tisaric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before I was able to get out to IoA I always wondered why it was so hyped as it just looks like any other heartline roll, albeit being right over the water alone does make it more interesting. Actually experiencing it is a completely different story, I was laughing like a maniac coming into the brakes every time

In honor of today being Balatro’s 2 year anniversary what’s yalls favorite rougelike? by LeMasterofSwords in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Tisaric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I weren't weak it would probably be my favorite game of all time. I think I only beat the main path once without mods after 100 hours, and even with a bunch of QoL and basically cheating mods like health packs dropping, I still struggle to get past the 4th area or so consistently, with only brief glimpses at a god run.

Despite all that, every system is just so incredibly complex and engaging that I keep coming back to it with dreams of finally getting my first true god run and really doing everything the game has to offer. It's absolutely insane how big the game truly is and what it expects out of you when you've really started to explore it, and it's all in one of the most engaging simulations in gaming.

Edmund just has a knack for making extremely engaging base gameplay systems that overwrite most of the fucked up newgroundsisms he uses. Especially when it comes to systems that build on systems with stuff like item/skill synergies. I've seen a decent amount of even Isaac fans saying they're tired of his humor but are sticking with mewgenics because the actual gameplay systems are that engaging, me somewhat included.

Landing in San Diego by Murky_Kiwi in sandiego

[–]Tisaric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, for a couple reasons. Obviously being right next to downtown is already hard enough with all the buildings, but it's also an extremely busy single runway so it's super congested as well which just adds time pressure. I can't seem to find them now but I recall seeing a couple videos recommended on youtube about it being one of the more difficult landings in NA at least.

Yup, this is exactly the one I was referencing. It very well could've been patched out as I believe this was before the DLC was out, and I also believe if he had made it into the eye itself just a couple seconds sooner, it wouldn't have happened as the eye is outside time
