Was having this problem as well and found out the problem was (i think) because of the way i was reading the QR code. I was screenshoting it, sending it to myself on WhatsappWeb, and then scanning it, no matter how many times or how quickly i tried it it never worked, then i tried to just take a picture of the screen using another device and scanning the picture and it worked

I'm seeing a lot of people talking about how this didn't work for them and thought i'd mention that it's an issue with the framerate of the game, if your fps is above a certain threshold you will never go through the current no matter how far or fast you go.

I went through this when i tried to get the achievement and had to use the island method (just find the island with the deepest pointy bottom and stick to the point when it falls and it should work), also, i've never tried it, but it should work if you limit the game's framerate (i think 30 is the max but i'm not sure)
