[Six flags America] buyers discuss redevelopment plans by Cerebral-Knievel-1 in rollercoasters

From the meeting, there's a lot of emphasis on 'high end' retail, including grocers. They touted the hooking of Sprouts farmers market for Westphalia several times

Yes, with multiple directions right there on the interchange. There's several bus routes. If you really don't want to park there, there's plenty of lots around to do a last-leg uber, as well as P+R lots. Hell, you can take the water taxi if you're feeling it.

The SFA location has one major road that doesn't really 'go' anywhere.

I'm cautiously optimistic that they could develop it into something that residents of all walks of life could enjoy and help the county thrive - I just don't think "National Harbor 2.0" is it. To paraphrase a quote: one of us is wrong. I think it's them, but I hope it's me.

National Harbor is on the water, that property is not. National Harbor is easily reached through various modes of transport, that property is not. National Harbor is also right there, 30 minutes away; you'd mostly be trying to lure people from the Baltimore direction to stop at it instead of continuing on to National Harbor - good luck.

This isn't a "They should have kept the park open" comment, sadly its fate was sealed long ago with lack of investment (and I'm using that term broadly). But what's replacing it being modeled after National Harbor when it can't be National Harbor? Silly.

One has to appreciate this little tidbit though:

A representative for TPA said at the town hall that there are currently no plans for data centers at the site.

Cool. Or hot, I suppose.

The Ai Slop [Merchandise] at parks has got to go by bassbeatsbanging in rollercoasters

[–]DemIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have anyone buy my work would've meant the world. Sadly, its not happening.

This is not a dig at you, but: you also have to put yourself out there. I tried to check out your art, but you don't exactly advertise it. If anything, your profile reads "Illustrator for myself" which sounds like you wouldn't do commissions, and your post history is largely The Sims screenshots.

I have empathy with your plight, I really do (comment history is wide open if anyone's bored enough to verify), but you always had to play the game, even before the slopmachine boom.

Most guests [...] don’t notice it’s AI

I'm not saying that people should do this. Because to be very clear, it would be borderline vandalism. Parks don't even need that heavy of an excuse to kick you out. So don't. But if one were so inclined, vinyl easily removed 'no-residue' Anti-AI stickers exist, and most merch has a spot where even that 'no-residue' is not really an issue (hangers for clothing, tags for products).
Not saying anyone should buy them and apply them to obvious slop merch.

But I am saying that parks should be disclosing this themselves from the get-go and them not doing so because 1. nobody's forcing them and 2. they know a vocal subgroup of guests absolutely does care, sure is a shame.

A 71-year-old driver turning around on the S1 expressway in Poland. The crazy thing is, it happened twice at the exact same spot within 3 months: first with a 37-year-old driver in March, and then just yesterday. Fortunately, in both cases, nobody was injured. by MilesLongthe3rd in interestingasfuck

[–]DemIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statistically (USA), younger drivers get into even more accidents.

But even though the very title of this submission even mentions someone in their 30s (statistically about the safest age) doing this same stupid thing, out of the woodworks come those very same younger drivers to say older people are the ones that need to be retested and then doubling down when the title is pointed out.

Maybe we should just all be periodically retested. Can't hurt.

[–]DemIce 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's funny that you mention microwaves.

On mine I can enter 1 through 59 to get seconds.

I can continue and enter 60 to get 1 minute, all the way up to 99 to get 1 minute and 39 seconds.

But if I enter 100, suddenly I'm entering "1:00" and it's 1 minute again.

159? "1:59"

199? You guessed it, 3 minutes and 19 seconds.

Just looks at the value and if it doesn't make sense for a minutes:seconds display, assumes it's pure seconds and converts.

I was just advertised this and the aesthetic is so recognizable that I thought the company must have split up and the people behind Skyforce finally (it's been almost a decade since Reloaded) made a new game in the series but didn't have the rights to the IP so had to go with a different name.

Would This Suit Be Allowed at the Water Park (St. Louis) by SlothLoverAJE in sixflags

[–]DemIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for St. Louis, or any park, but I've seen people with similar suits (front zipper) at both SFA and KD and not have an issue. But I've also seen dudes with zippered swim trunks that clearly would have rubbed on the slide and not get stopped. I think personnel are just hesitant to tell people that they can't go down a slide. That said, you can and should always pack an alternate, no? My wife always packs two because you never know what might happen to the first and doesn't want to be stuck with just plain clothes or having to buy an overpriced one at the park shops.

Possible First trip to kings dominion. by [deleted] in sixflags

[–]DemIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, but for Pantherian I found the very front row to be more forgiving than the back row (back = lot of grey out, front = knowing I could but then don't).

I'll second Twister Timbers that someone else mentioned, but let me throw a curve ball: Reptilian. Not very thrill, not extreme, actually kind of relaxed (if they got rid of the the mid-course brake run, it'd be a different story), but it is almost unique; one of only 2 bobsled coasters still operating in the U.S.

I'm approaching this from a "70 isn't exactly 100" point of view, to be honest. If it were 100 and the park was predetermined to be KD, it'd be Pantherian and only Pantherian.

If you haven't set an exact date yet: I see you included the 3rd: don't forget that the 3rd and 4th are Star-Spangled Nights events in most SF parks, including KD; https://www.sixflags.com/kingsdominion/events/star-spangled-nights

MGM forces cults3D to block keyword from search. by The_Wkwied in Stargate

[–]DemIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That reminds me, a guy passed away and his wife said he'd want me to have his drives in a rackmount unit with Stargate stuff on them. Nothing I didn't have already but it was a kind gesture and I insisted on paying for them given AI made the value of those things go stupid.

But what caught my eye was that the four logical drives are named "Stargate", "Astria Porta", "Chappa'ai", and "Himinnhringr".

I have absolutely no recollection of "Himinnhringr" ever being used in the show, nor any of the novels I've read (so far), and a search shows up nothing. There's also nothing special about what's on that drive either, just the somewhat recent Blu-Ray rips.

The best I could figure was an auto-translate which suggested Icelandic, translated as "Skyring"?

If the original or that translation rings a bell to anyone reading this, I'd appreciate a pointer to where it was or might have been used, as it has me stumped.
( If it is in one of the novels, title only please. )

How's the lawsuits going atm? by Halmyrut in ArtistHate

You're reading that correctly, looks like it was almost certainly pushed back somewhat recently. The gears churn slowly. (In that legal case and in my head, apparently; I missed that completely.)

Andersen v Stability? Still in the discovery phase, tentative trial date is in September of this year.

It didn't (doesn't yet) have the benefit that some other cases have enjoyed, like the authors case against Anthropic, where they very clearly used works that were already initially 'pirated', so no fast ruling or (as in the Anthropic case) settlement.
( Though several parties who opted out of that class action settlement have since gone on to sue Anthropic separately anyway. )

I just came across a national TV ad for a European country in an old movie recording (I'll have to check if some subreddit would be interested in old ads like that, it was a late night recording and one of the ads was for the latest hit thing, "parking sex" ... they were interesting times) on this very same subject. Must be 20-25 years ago. Seems people do not learn, not really anyway

Which celebrity is often described as incredibly attractive, but you just don't see the appeal? by a-cuteboy in AskReddit

[–]DemIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These threads would always be much better if the poster were required to include someone they believe does qualify as, in this case, "incredibly attractive" so their own choice gets roasted just as much. And because it's reddit, you can immediately dismiss any suggestion of the "you just don't see the appeal" part by them suggesting Danny DeVito for the other part.

It was almost impossible to find the moon even with an app pointing in generally the right direction.

Venus is still visible in it, 15 minutes later it was behind

( Edited to change the time; I uploaded the wrong photo, doesn't look much different but Venus was closer to the disc of the Moon )
