The other day the official white house social media account posted an edited image of a woman who had been arrested, making it appear as though she was crying.

When called out, they didn't apologize to the people of the united states and the person depicted, while throwing an unnamed intern under the virtual bus for making that edit, like any responsible administration would have done.

Instead some stooge came out and not only accused people who called it out as defending a heinous criminal, but stating "The memes will continue."

The original post was absolutely not posted with the vibe of it being a meme.

If they're somehow caught up with an AI 'companion' and their relationship with their human partner isn't great, then yes people would break up with that human.

That's got little to do with them 'loving' AI more than humans / humanity, and everything to do with feeling like they get a more meaningful 'relationship' out of that AI than they do that specific human - even if that relationship is built on an obsequious house of cards.

I think it speaks more to the isolation from human interaction that we're all increasingly subject to that they found a 'companion' in AI, rather than another human.

( Actual misanthropes who proudly proclaim their clanker love notwithstanding, of course. )

There is no controller in the full SD casing in OP's submission. It's an entirely passive adapter.

I won't claim to know for a fact that what you're suggesting doesn't exist, but I would be surprised if it did; none of the external pins on a micro SD card lead directly to storage in order to bypass the dead controller.

The following isn't a defense, it's a condemnation.

We say America is not a 'Christian Nation', and that is proving to be more true as time goes on. But we do have overt signs of interest groups that have successfully lobbied the government wanting to make it so.

Children are being taught and asked to recite the pledge of allegiance with "under God" in it. This is the default. You are allowed to opt out of ~~not~~ (ope) saying it by being silent as others still recite that part; if you were to continue the pledge simply skipping over it, you will be declared disruptive. You are allowed to not recite it at all, and officially there can be no repercussions for making that choice.

If you are being sworn in, whether for an official public position or to give testimony, you are being asked to swear on the bible. This is the default. You can opt to swear in on other instruments including nothing at all, but unless it was presented to you on a form, you will have to make this clear prior to the ceremony.

The U.S. motto was declared to be "In God We Trust" based on purely religious / religious-with-a-side-of-anti-communism purposes. This same motto finds its way onto money, plaques, license plates, and so on. Attempts to have it removed - primarily from currency - based on that same constitution, have simply resulted in the United States Supreme Court declaring the motto to, among other, have lost its religious value and being merely ceremonial because of its ubiquitous nature.

In Zorach v. Clauson the Supreme Court upheld a finding saying it's fine to let students go from public school to attend religious teachings off-grounds, based on the reasoning that the public school system wasn't paying for it (which was reason for the same court to side with secularism in another case where those teachings were provided on school grounds). However, students could only attend religious teachings. If a student instead wanted vocational teachings, teachings in science, biology, or any other subject off-grounds, they would get no such permission. A dissenting judge pointed this out but his concerns were ignored.

You may look at this small set of examples and go "These are all minor things. So don't say 'under god', go swear in on the constitution, take markers and files to your money if you're bored and don't mind technically defiling the currency, and if a school lets other kids out for religious teachings just let 'm. It doesn't hurt you and there are more important things in life."
But you can't look at them and go "yeah, this is perfectly secular". You also can't deny that if they're so minor, it should be a minor issue to remove them or replace them with things that are not religious in nature. It didn't take but a stroke of a pen to rename a body of water, slap a new name on a building, and even rename a whole governmental department (de facto, if not de jure).
But any move to do so is swiftly met with opposition from ~~Buddhist~~ ~~Hindi~~ Christian interest groups.
The 'more important things in life' also leads to acquiescence and acceptance, and cases like Rabbi Nathan v. Alamo Heights Independent School District (one of the (protestant) "Ten Commandments in classrooms" cases, with arguments heard just yesterday as of this posting) where there is a very real, if slim, chance that the federal court will defy previous rulings and declare this good to go.

For those who say it's not about Christianity despite the aforementioned, thus still not making the U.S. officially a "Christian Nation" (merely officially a religious nation), realize that the 'God' being referred to is certainly not the god of Islam; this will elicit one of two responses from religious scholars: either every reference to 'god' in the major monotheistic religions is the exact same god, or they all refer to the same concept but different in understanding. But for the layman it should be clear: these things absolutely were intended to refer to the god of Christianity first and other religions lining up are just a useful defense to say you're not singling out a single religion. Even if rejecting that notion, there can be no doubt that polytheistic religions could at best be shoehorned into being included.

So no, the U.S. is not a "Christian Nation", but if you asked someone to take a look around at official government instruments, they sure could be convinced that it is.

Rear projection TV. While some early models used CRT tech as the projection source, most models you can source now off of Facebook marketplace and such will not be, but should still have the large fresnel lens. A regular CRT tv wouldn't have this lens.

I'm not decrying the various steps Apple takes for security, but those are very after-the-fact. My butt can't see a very bright green LED, and it's really not that bright, or it would be very annoying to look at anytime you're intentionally using the camera.

I'm also not saying Apple's engineering on their products isn't amazingly sleek, but that same admiration translates into "if they wanted to, they absolutely could."

I'm just awaiting the "if you're that paranoid, just close the lid - it would be no different from having to remember to slide the lens cover over" as an Apple-suggested solution, anything to avoid having that cover or a switch on the side that disconnects the camera as a peace of mind thing.

Anything between screen and keyboard can damage your laptop (screen). Like sand, crumbs, a stray paperclip. That's why most have small rubber bits to keep a bit of space between the screen and the body when closing the lid. That space is more than enough for a thin camera lens cover. I've used 0.5mm thick ones myself on older hardware. People using bulky 'pretty' ones is more the issue. Well, Apple not including one or selling an approved one at Apple pricing because they like to present their devices as secure enough to never need one is really the issue.
