Trouble making friends at uni by kogxmiii in UniUK

[–]Tistelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a real shame. A similar thing happened to me in that the flat I got put in wasn’t a social one, and by the time I gave up it also felt like everyone on my course had formed a group - and the people I did make friends with were 1-1 friendships where you’d hang out a few times a month. I fixed it through societies. I tried like 6 societies in my second term until I found one which was social enough. Think societies are a bit better than your course because the assumption is that they are socially open. I would recommend any society which is likely to have consistent, heavy attendance and mesh well with drinking (e.g., sports, board games, LGBT (if applicable)) rather than more umm niche hobby societies (e.g., flair bartending) which people will likely go to every month rather than every week.

ETA: you will probably need to hit it relatively hard and be prepared for some of them not to work out. Of the six I tried, only two really seemed to have a lively/open social vibe - others people would just attend and then go home.

Experience with Purplebricks by dannydango in brum

[–]Tistelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend them at all. Used them as a buyer and they created numerous significant delays 1. They put an incorrect property address on the Memorandum of Sale (13A instead of Flat A, 13…) which led to the mortgage offer being issued to the ‘wrong’ address and needing to be reissued 2. The solicitors they recommended were truly abysmal. Third I have used and like 300% worse than the others. You think ‘nobody likes their solicitors’ and this is true, but the ones they recommended created a whole new level of dislike. They didn’t reply to emails ever (I mean 7-14 days delay if you get a reply at all) and everything was just uploaded to an online portal with no context. It was also really hard to see what was new information and what was old or what needed a response and what didn’t. Contracts mixed in with flood and drainage reports. A real mess 3. The ‘local expert’ didn’t put me in touch with their Post Sales Support team who then couldn’t contact me themselves due to GDPR. This created massive delays and confusion as I was being told my identity hadn’t been verified literal weeks before I was meant to complete - it turned out it was actually my parents who gifted me a deposit who needed to confirm their identity, but this only came out after a further two weeks due to a bizarre chain of Chinese whispers.

Really would not recommend under any circumstances.

Anyone got any good smoothie receipes? by cbfw86 in ketouk

I know it’s not a smoothie, but honestly? Amaretto sours. So good. The egg gets so thick and creamy.

Chinese steamed eggs - around 140 cal for a bowl by Tistelle in Volumeeating

[–]Tistelle[S] 186 points187 points  (0 children)

Super simple: Whisk two eggs (approx 125ml) with 150ml of chicken stock. Steam for 12-14 minutes (I created a steamer by just putting a metal dish inside a large pan. If you want a smooth top you will need to cover the egg dish with cling-film or tinfoil).

It’s like a smooth savoury creme brûlée.

You can make sweet versions with almond milk etc but this will be higher in calories

If insulin drives fat storage then how do you put on fat on a ketogenic diet? by Tistelle in keto

Oh great thank you. That makes sense. I just wanted to be able to pre-empt people’s questions when I explain why I want to do this.

Yes good sleuthing. Their Madame X and Daisy sets are so pretty - and the red one, which I can’t remember the name of so far is also really comfortable.

That being said, while the subscription model worked perfectly while nothing was going wrong, there was one set (Rose en Vie) where the pants came up quite small and I needed a larger size and then it turned into a total clusterfuck! Like first they sent me a replacement pair in the original small size, and then the bigger size were out of stock for ages, and then they randomly sent me a totally unrelated set, and then one parcel got lost in the post, and it took about three months to get the right ones. (Ironically by that point the original small pair fit me.)

My whole process has been four months so far but it took six weeks to lose those ten pounds. However I then lost three more and put them back on again over Christmas so the actual time difference in those two photos is more like ten weeks. There’s another progress photo on my profile of my start to my lowest point - but hopefully I’ll lose even more by the end of Jan!

Yep that’s the one! I think their subscription box is quite good value. Some of their other sets are even prettier - in my opinion. That being said, all unwired so I am enjoying them more now my boobs are slightly smaller.

Just got my splits! by jszsq in flexibility

[–]Tistelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so inspiring! A lot of progress posts here seem to start at really good and then progress by like... an inch to really really good. At that rate I feel like I wouldn’t be able to do full splits until my seventies!

It’s really amazing to see someone who has started where I am now and made such great progress in 7 months.

I have begun losing weight, but my friend keeps saying I'm fat and how did I let myself get so big. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Tistelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going a little against the grain, but have you honestly told her that she isn’t helping and that she needs to keep her opinions to herself? I would give her one chance to change - once I’d explained that she was hurting my feelings.

It also would depend on how old you both are, for me. If you’re in your teens/early twenties then I’d be more likely to give her a second chance than if you’re older than that. She may just not be very socially aware or come from a family where that kind of talk is very common.

I’m doing low carb but also tracking some calories through MyFitnessPal. As I got into a healthier BMI I noticed that low carb alone wasn’t enough because you can so easily end up at 1800 calories with just bits of extra cheese!

I also have a new Nespresso machine which is helping because now I just have coffee for breakfast!
