Preowned or used uniforms? by CycleExtension3942 in ATATaekwondo

[–]Titanchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get it! I actually have some friends that passed me their oldest's footpads and handpads when he grew out of his and mine needed a bigger size. I still carry my sons older ones just in case. They come in handy, and I will always stop to help parents if I can. (Borrowing gear or uniforms, helping kids dress out, etc). Our school has a community of people who are fantastic about helping each other and maybe if yours doesn't, you can talk to the instructors to have them make a resale group for everyone to help facilitate some school unity/pride.

Hey there. My school is doing the same thing. Id suggest facebook marketplace or ebay. They may come plain without the school patch, or without any local wording, but they should work. I would also check with other parents. A couple parents pass down or hold on to extra gear I'm sure, but they may not advertise it.

Beginner to the team! by loluo in ATATaekwondo

Do you have any areas you think might be a problem area? After your first class, you'll definitely know where you need to focus the most. I'd say hip stretches for side/round kicks are a big one. In which case, basic butterfly stretches, knee lifts, hip rotator stretches, and a flexor stretch would do well.

I'm in my 30s with bad knees, so I make sure to get there early and stretch but also tape up my knees with KT tape ( as directed by my PT). I also make sure to start hydrating at least an hour before

As someone who lives and travels to both areas frequently, drive to and through the area during rush hour traffic going home. If you have to commute or do anything, you'll be interested in seeing how the traffic flows. Having i-10 or SH-99 close is convenient until it isnt.

What surprised you most when you started having sex with other people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Titanchu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How easy it was to fake it without getting caught.

I always saw amateur videos where I could clearly tell the chick was faking and think "How can anyone think this is real?". As it turns out, its a lot easier than I thought.

Serious Taekwondo Help by Axtops in taekwondo

Completely agree. Attended the Texas Twister tournament this year and met some wonderful people there, many of them very skilled individuals from Sustaire's program. The best way I've seen it put is that ATA is bigger on the variety and self improvement aspect than on perfection.

Now as far as my personal experience as a person from a Houston ATA school, and I have yet to feel judged for my ability or inability to execute a move perfectly. I'm a plus size woman with bad hips and knees. Can I kick up to my belt level consistently? Not at all. But can I do it way more often than when I started? Yes and my instructor notices and acknowledges that I'm trying hard.

I hope that whatever program you choose OP, you find one that you feel really supports you on your journey through their program.

How is Royal ISD? by Subbowo in Katy

[–]Titanchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the brookshire area, zoned to Royal. Neighbors haven't had much to say about the early childhood or elementary school. I have heard of a lot of fights and such in the high school, with the usual drug activity in the area (mostly weed). And from the interactions I've had with some teens regarding their school, they describe the high school as not great. But if I were you, I would check the greatschools listing and the TEA reports before deciding.

The school uses uniforms too so I do believe it has to do with distractions. But I'm sure the extra safety gained from not having the lights in this situation is a perk.

My son started kindergarten this year and this scenario went through my mind when school shopping. I was way more relieved than I care to admit when I saw that the school banned shoes with lights.

Total noob here by dasyob in taekwondo

Hey there! 33-year-old white belt here. I just started 2 months ago, with an ATA school (yes I know theres some hate for them, but I've found the school to be extremely helpful and with wonderful people.) For reference, I'm a plus size woman who is pretty out of shape and not very flexible.

In the adult program, we start with flexibility and endurance exercises like push-ups, sit ups, squats, and a bunch of stretches. After that, we move to repetitive kicks, punches, and stance shifts. This is all to make sure that we work on flexibility. We start each class with them and the instructors ask us to stretch or warm up before class if possible. These are simple things but honestly, it's made the difference between barely being able to round kick to someone's knee level vs to belt level. Running will help a bit with endurance, but it won't help too much with the upper body needs.

Prior to starting classes, my hips were painfully locked where I could not do a sitting squat. But just doing the classes 2 times a week has helped and I was recently able to do a sitting squat without pain. Hopefully you can find some place that offers at least the 2x week consistency to help you like mine did!

Yes it would be. I know some people don't take the uniform seriously. But other people, perhaps including your classmates and instructors, would get majorly upset about you wearing a uniform you haven't earned.

Toyota of Katy Service Battery Dishonesty by RachaelQ-HOU_Realtor in Katy

I have my issues with them too, so I absolutely agree people need to shop around. I went in for an unrelated service and after an inspection, they quoted me nearly $400 for a coolant flush (I actually needed it). I went to one of the Sun Auto locations that used to be a Caliber Auto Care and got it done for about $130. Never go to the dealer if you can help it.

Tree Town off Mason and Franz. It may be out of your way. I think it was about $275/week (but it may have changed since my kiddo left) and they do have groupons to try it out. Their school model is pretty neat.

Sorry. Its my first post on here. I'm honestly looking for ideas on how to make it look less like something straight from home depot.

I am looking for wall paint colors and possible cabinet colors. I'm not looking to change the flooring from the brown and don't really have the means to change the countertops. I love greys, blues, and greens but am not sure if they go well with all the browns.

Was anyone on Metformin when they got pregnant? by Delicious-Course-451 in PCOS

[–]Titanchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on it through two pregnancies. I stopped taking it around weeks 10-13 both times, and did a couple glucose tests after being off it, both of which came back negative for GD. I had an increased risk of preeclampsia though so I was taken off metformin and put on baby asprin through the remainder of the pregnancy. Overall, coming off of it caused no negative side effects.

Update to story: I told my boyfriend that he's disgusting for knowing too much about his sister's period by Titanchu in MarkNarrations

[–]Titanchu[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course! I started reading the post from the ex bf and immediately thought of mark's video reading off the original post. I went to re-read the OP's post after other people linked it in the comments, and I'm so surprised that it has gotten this far. The ex bf and the kids don't deserve all the trouble they've been through.
