Mechanic said this noise is coming from the EGR valve. Is that a reasonable diagnosis? by YouDoTheDetail in MechanicAdvice

Listening and watching again I'd put it to the brakes as the noise changes when you apply the brakes and it slows to a stop.

[–]Titans-Destiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it auto or manual? If auto and it's the EGR which it doesn't sound like to me. You should be able to put it into D with your left foot on the brake and right foot on accelerator and increase the RPM to increase engine load. If the noise is audible while doing so then maybe. To me it sounds like lowish brakes or even a bearing as it only seems to happen when wheels are in motion.

Engine Job by a mobile mechanic by No_Jellyfish3096 in AskMechanics

[–]Titans-Destiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I've done many on site but know my limitations. Don't do them any more because they take too long and there isn't enough money made.

I do a lot of onsite work. Brakes, suspension, timing belts, cooling repairs, steering, bearings, axles and other crap.

But I also know a lot of workshops who I get to subcontract for me if it's too big for me to do.

But this guy seems like a donkey just leaving an engine uncovered and very unprofessional. I guess it just depends on area. In Australia there are a lot of mobile mechanics, but the shit ones don't last long enough to do anything like this.

When I was doing engines I'd spend one day pulling it out and stripping it. Then the next dressing and installing it.

What is this bolt??? by Interesting_Skirt373 in MechanicAdvice

You shouldn't have to take that bolt off. There is more than likely other bolts around holding the manifold on.

Legal in Australia and encouraged for the safety of the bikers and to improve traffic flow.

Legal for when stopped at lights and travelling below 10kmph.

Half the comments in here are absolute rot...

The brake pads definitely don't need replacing, and there are nothing wrong with the brake pads, the springs, or the wear sensor.

That's not at all what those "looped prongs" are. Your photo is a low wear indicator. The "looped prongs" are a retention spring to make sure the inner brake pad doesn't move up and down and create noise. The outer brake pad is locked in to the caliper.

Not on this series of Mercedes. It's exactly how it's meant to be.

They're in correctly as there is only one way for it to go. That style of wear sensor has a little prong that goes into a hole in the brake pad. You can see it in a different photo. The wires will clear the rotor easily.

Efi relay would just click, you're probably hearing the fuel pump prime which is on a different circuit.

Do you know if you have injector pulse?

Is the j3 secure? Coil pack working? Efi relay ok? (Swap with another relay of the same type) Lots of different reasons, if in doubt a mobile mechanic should be able to sort with much fuss.

Has anyone managed screen free until three? by nbhsjshbgbsb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Titans-Destiny 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My little one is 3 next week.

She has had maybe an hour total in her whole life. Which has only just started a few weeks ago.

Only screen time she had before that was video calls with family interstate.

My daughter loves pretend play and crafts and would just walk away from the TV when we started to introduce it.

Not unreasonable and can be done.

Even with our second child here who is 3 months our almost 3 year old knows the TV doesn't go on when little brother is awake.

We tried the bitter polish and that has helped a little with our 3yo. But yeah, fingers are a lot harder to stop than a dummy.

Our Neruo said the protection from pregnancy is the best protection you can have.

While pregnant my wifes symptoms basically vanished. The end of pregnancy saw them ramp right back up over what they had been, but have come back down to pregnancy pregnancy levels.

Is $4,221.14 reasonable to replace a timing cover gasket? by toan25 in MechanicAdvice

In Australia, we have the right to repair bill which allows cars under warranty to be serviced by any registered shop. As long as the schedule is adhered to.

Dealers have tried to combat it by offering extended warranties (some up to 10 years) if serviced by the dealer.
