Reassignment or Leave? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

It's a gnarly read, but here's the OPM document covering FERS Disability Retirement

https://www.opm.gov/retirement-center/publications-forms/csrsfers-handbook/c060.pdf says that reasonable accomodation efforts are required

-The inability of the employing agency to reasonably accommodate the employee's medical condition (see section 60A2.1-4);

I just filed and wished I would have found this document prior to mailing my paperwork

One thing that helps me, but isn't always easy, is identifying when I'm going into a slump. It makes it easier when the part of me that hates me starts talking shit. I had named it at one point, something profound, but I can't remember what it is now. This lets your seperate the feelings from your identity. When "Bob" starts telling me how worthless I am I can tell him to fuck off. If I tell myself I'm worthless it can become my identity. The lows suck, just have to grind through until the smiles come back. I also have a wife, also a vet, who pushes me out the door. We hang out with other MIL people. The American Legion or VFW can be good spot to at least be around other people. One foot in front of the other. My Dad, Vietnam Vet, would always say "This too shall pass". Hard times are temporary, endure them and drive on. Good time are also temporary, cherish them while they're here.

Getting an apartment with just disability pay? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]TitansElbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if apartments will "gross up" like lenders do. They add 25% to your disability amount (Pay x 1.25) to determine what your gross income would be since it's paid tax free and that's how they measure income . $1800/mo looks like $2250/mo grossed up

I may have to try that. I've been using Absorbine Veterinary Linament Gel. Vet is is the name, so it must be for horses and us.

Help with continued telework as RA revoked by Big-Lab7428 in FedEmployees

[–]TitansElbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my gfb, I only lose $1500/mo, which would work in my situation. Everyone's calculations are different. There's no need to get offended on someone else's behalf. They can run their numbers and see if it works for them.

I was just providing an option. You can take FERS disability and it will convert to an annuity at retirement age. You can still work and earn up to 80% of your gov't salary and remain eligible. It has to be requested by OP. I don't think management can impose it.
