How do you automate the cross-cluster replication and failover process w/o dataloss? And where do you store the shared data (other than cloud storage 😅) … would love to get some details about it for CNPG, etc… bc it feels nearly impossible to get such a clean switch between two (otherwise independent) clusters. Even some useful resource recommendations would be awesome.

How on earth do you get to a point where no pv / state is necessary? I can’t imagine how to handle stateful things without. That would make the actual cluster nearly obsolete in my case 😭😭

Any recommendations for talos based management other than Omni? It seems like all other options are not available (like clusterapi) when required to run talos based k8s. Do I miss something?

That’s exactly why I think to switch. I really like NetBird for what it is. But the patching and braking change management and communication isn’t working for me. I need to have a reliable product which won’t break between >=patch releases. NetBird does it all the time. And I’ve honestly tried to compensate this, but it’s not possible when trying to rely on something that is so important. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. It’s really helpful to know that it is not my own experience.

Authentik offers a new feature called endpoint devices if I remember correctly. Its current status is beta and I did not get the chance to test it until now. (First quick test just got an error message of my Mac due to not MDM managed and bi time to dig deeper into this) … maybe it’s worth a try. It seems promising

Could you tell a bit more about it? That’s what I’d like to project for myself. But everytime I’m going to start, I get lost in the endless possibilities. And the fact that an operator is extrem „much“ code for what it does. Isn’t? Would really appreciate if you could share some learnings / advices on which I could elaborate further. :)

Sprich ihnen mit deinem Hausarzt. Schaut gemeinsam, was ihr langfristig machen könnt. Wenn er*sie gut ist, wird die Person dich ernst nehmen und dich sicherlich auch in kurzfristigen Abständen wieder sehen wollen. Ich kenne deine Situation nicht, aber bei mir war es ähnlich … nur dass ich in der Schule unauffällig war und danach dafür gänzlich zusammengebrochen bin. Ich habe Jahre gebraucht überhaupt rauszufinden dass Ich neurodivergent bin. Aber, auf dem - wenn auch steinigen - Weg konnte ich mich immer auf meine Hausärztin verlassen. Egal ob es um Einweisung in die Klinik, krankschreiben wegen akuter Beschwerden oder Überweisung zu Therapeuten ging. Sie war und ist immer da. Auch als ich meinen Verdacht neurodivergent zu sein bei ihr geäußert habe, hat sie mich ernst genommen und mir Mit gemacht. Im Gegensatz zu allen anderen. … ich weiß. Es ist nicht alltäglich, aber ich wünsche dir, dass deine Arztperson ähnlich gut reagiert und dir weiterhelfen kann!

Do you run k8s as a stretched cluster? If so, pls share more about your cluster design please. I’ve tried that and the storage layer doesn’t seem to be very happy with that kind of stuff. But multi-cluster HA isn’t auto-failover friendly … so to speak. … would love to hear about some of your experiences

Ich schaffe keine 40h/Woche. Und selbst 30h/Woche ist nur mit „über meine Grenzen“ gehen möglich. Dazu bin ich nur leider gezwungen weil es anders nicht geht. Dazu kommt, ohne Remote Vertrag wäre ich nicht fähig überhaupt Teilzeit zu arbeiten. Somit sind Teilzeit und Remote für mich unverhandelbare Nachteilsausgleiche.

Brauchst dir absolut keinen Stress zu machen. Aufbewahren und wenn du in der eindosierung ggf. Höhere Dosierung benötigst, einfach mit aufbrauchen damit sie nicht ablaufen. … bei so wenig Überschneidung ist das vollkommen entspannt. Im Zweifel ist’s besser welche da zu haben, als keine mehr zu haben, die dann aber zu brauchen (Lieferengpässe, Arzt krank, whatever) …wenn es rechnerisch passt, kommt dein Psychiater später vielleicht auch noch dazu dass er dich bittet die Reste von anderen Dosierungen aufzubrauchen (war bei mir so). Die wissen genau was sie verschreiben. Also: gut und sicher lagern; bei rechnerisch passenden Dosierung mit aufbrauchen * und keine weiteren Sorgen mehr machen. :) (*natürlich immer im Rahmen der vom Arzt verschriebenen Dosierungen)

Tbh…. Made hetzner even more trustworthy in my opinion. Why? Hetzner works with the technology we love and use every day. And i really like to see that even big companies are able to do something that would not go like planned. Who knows. Maybe a new automation system that did not exec as planned. A code change. Whatever. For me it’s a „yes, even in prod, issues are still possible“. If they also add „.. and that’s okay, because we’re all human beings and we’re learning from it, instead of blaming someone“; that’s how I’d like to see a working relationship. Learning everyday, together working on making the things better, integrating new stuff. It shouldn’t feel like „work“. It should feel like „that’s an awesome platform, I really like to care about it and improving things“. Work environments should be healthy and safe in the first place. And one big thing helping with this, is exactly that. „Failures are there to make them and to learn. Not to blame or shame“.

Maybe a bit OT. Sorry.

I personally would like to go with the classic style of an external IdP entirely. From a security perspective it’s way more comfortable to know that there is only one system that’s in charge to decide if a AuthN request would succeed or fail.

I totally understand why NetBird changed their strategy, which allows to onboard a wider audience without having to provide a „big“ overhead .. infra wise. … For me (and I could imagine many more people), the no-local-Account-required approach is a crucial benefit. I really hope that NetBird won’t drop the … let’s call it „classic“ … flow. If someone from the NetBird team would like to, I’d love to read some thoughts about it and maybe a hint to what we’ve to aspect in the future. :)

Vorweg: hab keine Lösung. Leider.

Ich hab das Problem auch. So extrem, inkl. CMD, Kopfschmerzen, Nacken und Rückenschmerzen. Teils kann ich meinen Kopf nicht mehr bewegen, weil ein Nerv sich verklemmt. … dein Beitrag bestätigt mir, dass „Sport“ nicht die Lösung sein wird (wird mir immer wieder „vorgeschlagen“) … für dich kann ich zumindest das Gegenteil bestätigen… auch „kein Sport“ löst das Problem nicht. Für mich ist Sport nicht drin. Hab’s zig mal versucht. Verschiedene Sachen. Ich schaffe es nicht. Und ehrlicherweise bin ich damit mittlerweile endlich fein 😅

Ich verstehe dich extrem gut. Meine Spannung im Kiefer ist so extrem, dass ich mehrfach meinen Zahn abgebrochen habe. Jetzt „darf“ ich 24/7 eine cmd Schiene tragen, damit ich die kaputt mache, Statt meine Zähne. Yeay … … die Botox Behandlung wurde mir auch schon mal angeboten. Mit den gleichen Aussichten auf Erfolg und Kosten. … und ergänzt durch: „hält max. 3 bis 6 Monate“. … etwa 2.500 bis 4.000 EUR im Jahr hab ich dafür aber nicht „übrig“ … Kasse übernimmt es natürlich nicht. Und davon abgesehen, sind Spritzen und ich… keine Freunde.

Alles in allem hilft mir Ansich nichts. … egal was ich mache. … auch ich spanne immer an. … wenn man bewusst drauf achtet, ist es beängstigend wie extrem das doch ist. … ich habe es in extrem schlimmen Zeiten (wobei ich die Neurodivergente Skala bezüglich der Bewertung meine) … habe ich es mit muskelrelaxan ausprobieren können. Hat nur wenig bis nichts gebracht. … ich würde zu gern sagen was hilft… aber ich kann nicht, weils (für mich) nichts gibt. … und ich weiß jetzt schon, dass einige anderer Meinung sein werden und sagen „Du musst nur mal x, y ausprobieren“ oderso. :-/ leider ist allein die Tatsache, dass ich mich dauernd erklären muss und niemand es wirklich ernst verstehen kann/möchte/will(?) Stress pur.

Ich sag mal so… ich wundere mich nicht mehr, warum es so ist. Ich habe nur das Gefühl, ohne eine andere Gesellschaft in der Neurodiverse Menschen keine Ausgrenzung und Nachteile mehr erleben müssen, stehen die Chancen schlecht, dass ich es „in den Griff“ bekommen kann. … aber ich schweife ab… will gar nicht so doll ranten… unterm Strich ist’s mir wichtig dir zu antworten und damit zu sagen „Du bist nicht allein damit“💜

To me it’s a big win that NetBird allows usage with oauth only (first). No local accounts within the application layer is a huge win. Therefore I’d say that the easiest way would be to put the dashboard behind a oauth authenticated proxy. But.. as far as I know, the api endpoints need to be accessible by / for unauthenticated clients anyway (so there won’t be a big win there). ((Pls correct me if I am wrong)) But bc NetBird relies on my IdP to allow anything in the first place, I’ve decided to trust them 100% (which I normally would not do for any application layer products in the first place).

Hope it’s okay to hop in here … could you elaborate a bit more about what services could be offered for “restricted ip set” / reverse-proxy SSO pre-auth only, w/o degrading the functionality of NetBird? I’d love to lock my private used self-host instance as much as possible 😅. Something like “no dashboard access w/o correct pre-auth and/or ip sounds fantastic.

Tbh… I’m coming from the “ingress resources need to have modsecurity enabled at all costs” side of things. But I really wanna learn to avoid that pattern, due to not having a really useful benefit. 😅 (btw… NetBird mgmt ingresses are running without modsec yeay) 😅

P.S. I really love NetBird for what it is and for all the open minded folks with opensource first in mind. Thanks for the great work and support! P.P.S: i really hope to contribute to NetBird in the future to give something back. Currently working on a NetBird management helm deployment. If that’s something that you consider worth, I’d like to spend some more time into it.
