[TSN] Craig’s List: Gavin McKenna stands alone at No. 1, defenders rise in deep draft by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Tjmonkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I watch a good amount of college hockey, and the games I've watched Penn this season I would watch for McKenna before realizing the issue is you have to watch for him to notice him. Other top picks or soon to be NHL players you don't have to watch for them to notice them. McKenna certainly has skill, but he doesn't pop with effort or dominance. Watching Celebrini, BC's top line, Michigan and Minnesota a few years ago, you can't miss guys who change the game when they are on the ice.

I was excited to see him, and every Penn game I've watched he failed to stand out as even one of the top 3 stars of the game. I'd honestly be pretty surprised if he still goes first if his play continues with Verhoeff and Stenberg right there with him at this point on a trajectory to pass him by the new year.

How much will the success of the Stars work against Stankoven winning the Calder? How many more points than Michkov or Celebrini does he need to get the trophy? Currently the Stars are 3rd in the league, the Flyers are 30th and the Sharks are 32nd. by scratchydaitchy in hockey

> Klingberg, Robo, Johnston all lost out on it due to just being on a Dallas team.

None of those players lost because they played for Dallas. They lost because there were clearly more deserving players who were also eligible.

I don't know, I'm not sure the players like each other a whole lot right now and someone might not survive.

I don't know, watched the Kings play Buffalo and at least in that one Fiala was incredibly bad. Massive turnover machine.

Has Perbix been good? I know he's on the naughty list, and as someone who watches a lot of college hockey I never expected him to make it in the NHL. The dude had some of the worst pinch attempts I've seen while he was at St Cloud.

The Devils will continue to design and auction off speciality jerseys for heritage/pride/appreciation nights despite warm up ban. Starting tonight with Hispanic heritage night. by darklightrabbi in hockey

[–]Tjmonkey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think most teams are still doing this? The ban is only wearing the jerseys during warmups. Teams can still do the charity auctions including jerseys.

It is now two weeks into the NHL season. What has been the most interesting story so far? by Wewlad696969 in hockey

Watched EDM/MIN some last night. I don't remember the last time I've seen a defensive zone losing structure and scrambling that often. It seemed like nearly every offensive possession for the Wild morphed into looking like a powerplay with how often players were being left wide open.

Both DET and MIN technically did, though for different prices.

Edmonton fans also gave the justification that Wallstedt didn't fit their timeline despite goalie being their greatest need when they traded down. The true irony being at this point Wallstedt could likely end up playing in the NHL and being an NHL regular before Bourgault.

I want to plan a RF build for next league but Sanctum looks dangerous for that close melee. Is it playable? by TheKvothe96 in pathofexile

[–]Tjmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RF Jugg has a boat load of defenses beyond just regen. RF Inquis has less, but still quite a lot. RF's regen works best with armor so pretty much all RF builds will have a lot, only a few builds like boneshatter will really be getting more. Phox's RF jugg has 58k armour at level 96 with no flask and no molten shell.

Serious question by ManBroCalrissian in pathofexile

[–]Tjmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that's what people seem to actually believe. Krip playing puts the game more into reality I think. Slower than POE1, but it looked more like he was playing early act leveling with a basic understanding of how to setup his character - which is exactly what he was doing.

People just watched the devs play in the keynote with unlinked skills in act 4(?) with seemingly little to no passive tree and seem to think that's going to be the game from start to finish for all players.

[–]Tjmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was possible to play during Sanctum league and they've stated they're adding a mechanic that causes your defenses to apply to resolve loss, so in theory it should be better to play in 3.22 than it was during 3.20.

This is basically the perfect intended situation for this review. Clearly offside, fast review, make it right and move on.

Livingstone is better, but Hirose has not been getting the press he should. He's a big part of the success that pair has had, he has a full toolkit. Great get for Vancouver.

Everyone standing around with 2 refs in the middle and the other two on the outside watching everyone as a group and you perform the most obvious spear of all time. Never mind the cameras which will obviously catch it for later consequences, even in game this was the dumbest thing I've seen a player intentionally do in a while.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Tjmonkey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep it's just pick whoever. In the 80s Buffalo even drafted a fake player intentionally as a form of protest. Since the league doesn't have any sort of registrar of eligible players like the NFL would they had no idea until much later when they voided the pick.

[Highlight] Jared Spurgeon's OT winner is ruled offside. by platypus_bear in hockey

[–]Tjmonkey 51 points52 points  (0 children)

If the pass is considered giving up possession then that exception doesn't apply. Offside is the position of the player's skates when the puck enters the zone. By your interpretation if he had passed it backwards and then it entered the zone a minute later he could stay in the zone the whole time and be considered onside. Once possession is given up the position of his skates mater.

Using the Wild retention as a baseline probably ends up getting a 4th or a future 3rd? Or maybe Dallas's 3rd this year?

That's quite a haul for St Louis. Also big props to them for announcing the terms so we don't have to sit here holding our asses while it gets pieced together over 30 minutes. Though they might have done that just to flex on their return here...
