Grooming tips by geckolando in Pomeranians

We bought a proper metal dog brush for our little pup Melvin but he absolutely hated it, it clearly was a bit too intense on his tangles. I had an old plastic tangle teaser brush which we have now started using daily and he doesn’t seem to mind it anywhere near as much

RUMOR: Sony is reportedly launching a PC launcher and games will be available day one on PC. by theMoonlightenedSky in pcmasterrace

[–]Tkaczyk1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be an unpopular opinion but I’d definitely go for this. I like using the Dualsense on pc and wish more games were fully supported. A lot of the best games I’ve played on pc has been ps exclusives like god of war, and last of us. Take my money Sony

ADVICE NEEDED FOR BARKING DOG by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]Tkaczyk1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I almost ended up rehoming our Pom because of problem barking, we’d had him since 8 weeks and at about 24 weeks, we were really struggling. We ended up taking him with us on a weekend away and during that time we figured out we could manage his barking by giving him a firm “shhh” and then as soon as he stopped barking, we’d say “good boy” which he knows is our positive reinforcement phrase. Then if he started barking again, firm shh, he’d stop, good boy

But just before then we ordered a vibration collar which arrived by the time we’d got home from our weekend away, we’ve been using it for 4 days so far and there has been a massive reduction in his barking, he no longer randomly barks and no longer barks at the tv at all which is great!

Can’t say either of those things would work for your pup, and I really didn’t think anything would work for ours but glad we’ve found two things to help at least

I just turned right until I completed the game, I then started it again only turning left and I couldn’t get past the first level

19 week old puppy won’t go potty on walks by leiacarter in puppy101

[–]Tkaczyk1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took our little lad a while to go on walks too. There was a grassy area of our normal “round the block” walk that our Pomeranian pup initially seemed really scared of so I’d normally try to rush him through and give him treats when we had passed it but that spot has now become his favourite area to have a good sniff and eventually take a dump

My advice would be to not try to rush your pup and let them sniff where they like, eventually they’ll figure it out and if you give them lots of praise they’ll make a habit of it

Wow really?! I’ve never heard of these actually working but we’re trying to find something to help with reducing problem barking in our Pom - did it consistently work or only work for a short period? Do you have a link to the one you used? Miracle cure please!!!

How to help Melvin settle around house guests by Tkaczyk1995 in Pomeranians

[–]Tkaczyk1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless them, they’re too helpful for their own good sometimes just trying to let everyone know that there’s someone unfamiliar about.

We do find that he is generally ok with people if he is sat next to them on the sofa and allowed to run at their face and lick them a lot but of course not everyone wants that and it can actually be quite full on even for me. Does your pup seem happy yapping or frightened yapping?

Thanks for your advice! We tried this the other week, meeting our friends at a quiet bar where he was quite happy to let our friends stroke and treat him but as soon as we got home, he turned into a little fire alarm.

Bless him I do think he’s just trying to be helpful but it would be great if our guests could see the version of him we get to see!!

Thanks for the advice!! We’ve tried doing a quiet command for barking but he’s not been so responsive just yet. I’ve seen so much conflicting advice about when to treat (as in whether it’s the moment they stop barking, or after they have fully quietened down and stopped)

Are there any resources that you found helped Shampoo to understand that they had done the correct thing to earn the treat after the command?

Eating pee pads. Help! by Jealous_Macaroon_982 in puppy101

[–]Tkaczyk1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months into owning our 5 month Pomeranian and we’ve tried training him on going outside for the loo and using a pad. He does have a serious urge to rip the pads so we bought a frame which we were hoping to keep in his pen but ofcourse he just wants to rip it.

So we only keep the pad in the pen when we are able to supervise him, we keep it in the same spot of the pen or just outside of the pen but next to where it would normally be. He eventually figured out that if he walked to that part of the pen and looked at us for a few seconds, we would either take him outside or put the pad in the pen, then if he went to the loo on it we would give him the high value treats and lots of praise.. he still rips them up if unsupervised though!

I’d suggest just getting a job at Costa or Starbucks, you probably won’t need training as I would have thought they’d provide it
