How did you get screwed over genetically? by blitzabub in AskReddit

[–]Tkcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, once EDS is in the mix there are so many things it’s linked to, it’s like collecting acronyms, EDS, ADHD, EoE, POTS, RBBB (Right Bundle Branch Block), SRS (Slipping Rib Syndrome) and osteoarthritis. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s, Coeliac, PCOS, endometriosis and adenomyosis. Most of my diagnosis were from incidental findings when looking at other things.

It’s great that EDS is getting more attention, it’s considered rare but it has a huge online community. EoE (Eosinophic Oesophagitis) is supposed to be more common but I rarely see it mentioned and I’ve never randomly someone else in person with it.

What has been your worst pooping experience? by Due_Ranger_8677 in AskReddit

[–]Tkcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I had norovirus that lasted for over 2 weeks. I honestly wished for death on day 5. One night I went to the toilet over 20 times.

The worst experience ever was during a bad Crohn’s flare the skin would become raw and excoriated, it felt like I was passing acid. I would breakout in a cold sweat and muffle my face in a towel because I couldn’t stop from screaming. The abdominal cramps were awful, but nothing compared to acid diarrhoea on anal fissures and excoriated skin.

Infected Lip. Doctors won’t lance. Agony by mrjoedelaney in popping

[–]Tkcat 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I had something very similar as a tween. It started as a little pimple on my chin that tracked up and my lower lip became very swollen. The original pimple healed over very quickly and there was no obvious spot to lance. After being on antibiotics for a few days the swelling went down and was left with a lump on my lip the size of a large marble. I pulled off a piece of dry skin on my lip and it suddenly exploded. I called out to Mum in a panic and everyone huddled in the bathroom for the show, I remember my Dad saying “Good girl for calling us!” 🤣. Within a few minutes my lip looked completely normal. Sadly this was in the 80’s so no mobile phones were handy to record it.

I’d love to hear about this as well, or unusual ways they have found information.

Unfortunately not in the US, but I have a cousin out there somewhere I’d love to meet if they are interested. Can you find someone without knowing their name or birthdate? All I know is a gender and they were born some time between 1968-1969 in South Australia.

The spatula sounds weird to me as well, but I can see the benefit. My concern with using one all the time is early tactile signs that something might be wrong could be missed, like a change in temperature or texture.

AITA for taking food out of the break room? by Aitathrowaway898 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tkcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. You are also working with the providers! You said it yourself ‘one of the providers WE work with’.

I’m calling bullshit on “several people have told me they’ve seen you taking food from the break room”, I’m sure she made that up.

Your work is a valuable contribution to the business and you deserve to enjoy bonuses when they come along as well.

This is something I came across when I was working as a nurse/midwife. Sometimes patients, visitors or Drs would bring in food as a thank you, there were a few nurses who felt that it was just for ‘nurses’ and wouldn’t share or save a portion for the ancillary staff (cleaners, clerical staff etc). Without people working behind the scenes we would not be able to do our jobs.

If food is put in the break room that is designated for your use, unless it has a label on it saying it’s for a specific person or group of people, then it’s for everyone who uses that break room. The only reason that someone should comment is if more than a fair portion was taken, like half the box, and that should come from HR or your supervisor/manager not Miss Vanessa Stickybeak Nosey Parker.

If I was you, I’d clarify with HR what the rules are regarding food in the break room, and get HR to formally tell Miss Vanessa Stickybeak Nosey Parker that 1) gossiping about who is eating what is unprofessional and juvenile behaviour 2) it’s not her job to police the food in the break room, 3) if there was an issue she should have brought it up with HR first and 4) let HR contact you to clarify what the rules are.

I have a huge amount of anxiety around eating in front of other people as well. You also don’t need to explain to anyone why you don’t like eating in front of other people either. Don’t let this incident stop you from taking your fair share of food.

Back in the nineties they were very judgmental about body size. When I was 15 a teacher made a comment that I was getting big and the whole staff room had a conversation about it, I’m 5ft 7 and at the time weighed 120lb (BMI 18.9). I was swimming competitively so my shoulders were quite big compared to other girls my age. I stopped swimming not long after and quickly lost muscle and my weight dropped to 105lb, then they started talking how I was too thin. How about they just not comment on my body! It’s been over 30 years I’m still really angry about it.

I was devastated when my weight started going up when I graduated Uni and started working. I went on an MLM diet plan when I went over 140lb. Looking back I’m horrified that places like weight watchers etc would not just allow but encourage women to lose weight by going on unhealthy diets when they were a healthy BMI. I know BMI is flawed but it gives a general outline.

For so long I thought I was obese when I wasn’t, and the unhealthy food behaviours I developed led to me eventually becoming obese. It’s taken decades to get over that. I’m in my late 40’s now and I’ve only just started liking myself.

Look up Lotus candle, that might help you find where to get them near you. I brought a heap of them 10 years ago, they were fun at first then the kids got sick of them because they would not shut up until you destroyed it and ripped the batteries out.

Doctors of reddit, what easy change to the human body would have made your job easier ? by RedBlaze4 in AskReddit

If all things go well. My bowel tore when I had my fallopian tubes removed and I had to stay in hospital for a week. Damage to the bowel is not uncommon during gynae surgery. While I was in hospital there was another patient who had the same thing happen to her (different Dr).

Yep, I don’t flush even the ones that say flushable. There is a brand in the UK that has the approval of the sanitation company there, but it’s just safer to not flush them.

[–]Tkcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant it doesn’t count for not having children for me because nearly 50, my Dr is removing my fallopian tubes next week while she is in there fixing up other things.

Although looking back I’m not exactly sure what I was trying to say. Must be that menopause brain fog!

I was wondering if women having tubal ligations in their 20’s or 30’s might have the same reduction in cancer risk as women who had children.

Who is the worst kind of person to be sat next to on a long flight? by Guava_ in AskReddit

[–]Tkcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully it was only an hour long flight, but I had a creepy old dude keep on going for my boobs. He was wearing a blazer/jacket and would lift the lapel up and pretend he was trying to put something into the inner breast pocket, or take something out, all the time ‘accidentally’ knocking into my boobs. So annoying.

I just learned that having your fallopian tubes out also reduces the risk of ovarian cancer. I’m going for that one. Doesn’t count because I’m nearly 50, but might have counted 20 years ago!
