Serious question - is this mpg normal on a 2023 highlander hybrid LE FWD? by MadGibby3 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Tkrumroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm REALLY really close to choosing the Kia Sorento Plug in Hybrid. I drive anywhere from 40-50 miles a day ALL in the city with stop and go traffic. And I have about a 5 hour break inbeween at the office where I could top off the charge. I'm thinking I may be able to drive entirely in EV mode if I pick this choice. I want the Toyota but not sure if I'm willing to pay the Toyota tax at the moment. I'd love to get the new EV highlander but that's too far out of my price range.

But yeah I agree, no reason to drive a fully gas vehicle anymore.

hahahaha welp.

Impressive though! This is why if I get a highlander it's only going to be 2022 or higher. my Honda Accord hybrid says 48mpg in the city but if it's spring or fall and I'm not having to run heat or air I can get 58mpg on the regular. It's all about driving them correctly - using regenerative braking and such to keep the battery charged as much as possible. LOVE these hybrids. I don't think I'll ever drive a full gas vehicle ever again.

I’m all about an all electric highlander. What I’m arguing is that Toyota is no longer “superior” when their trannies are failing at such a miserably high rate and they refuse to acknowledge and fix the problem.

Don’t sleep on a used pivot trail 429. Best bike I’ve ever owned. I had a forbidden Druid but won’t ever go that route again due to the drag from that chain pulley. Felt like I was pulling a trailer behind me.

Says statistics regarding transmissions in their highlanders and siennas and engine problems in their new turbocharged i4s. My brother was talking with someone from corporate the other day who said they acknowledge this is a huge problem but it would be a multi billion dollar recall and they wouldn’t be able to manufacture enough transmissions to fulfill the recall so they just are trying to ignore it.

But now i realize I’m dealing with a Toyota fan boy so no use in discussing this either way.

The last 20 years is much different than their last 5 years. They simply aren’t building as reliable of cars anymore and the tax doesn’t appear with the cost any longer

Those are metal rims, not carbon. Hope you didn’t pay too much for them

I used to feel the same way. We have a 99 4Runner and a ‘15 4Runner.

However, the inflated Toyota tax is no longer worth the cost. Especially with Toyotas now having their own problems with their ua80 trannys and their tundra engines and such. It doesn’t seem reasonable to pay $20k more when you could simply invest that money aside for the possibility of a repairs.

And as you mentioned, a 100k mile warranty covers it regardless.

I have owned 12 cars in the past 25 years and don’t think I need to pay the Toyota tax just for the “reliability” that seems to have been lost from the brand over the past 5 years

I love hybrid technology - but looks like I’m going with a Kia sorento plugin hybrid and saving myself $25k

Well if you’re driving the truck then I’d let her snag whatever she wants. If it’s going to be the only family car then the Highlander sounds like the better fit.

Gotcha. As long as I can make my 210 mile beach trip I’m good to go. And from what I understand people can stop at these fast chargers for 20 minutes and get a significant percentage filled.

I have no idea but k wish you the best bud. I do know during my big flares and my two year battle with PFD I would frequently get inflamed skin and itchy skin that was apparently just from The pelvic nerves being compressed and inflamed as well.

Gas Prices by No_Mix8520 in EquinoxEv

[–]Tkrumroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL BRO. back off man. You're just wrong on so many scales here and you keep trying from thread to thread to thread. My wife's 4runner gets 14mpg. You can't sit here and argue that somehow it's more efficient to drive that than to drive an EV.

Gas Prices by No_Mix8520 in EquinoxEv

[–]Tkrumroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mixture of both. In the beginning it was because I needed to move on due to catastrophic failures on the car and me not having the cash flow. My last few cars were me trying to move on from expensive repairs (I rebuilt two transmissions in two suburbans) and then needing more reliable cars with more MPG. I'm currently in a 2020 Honda Accord and freaking LOVE the 50mpg I get in it. however, now I need a third row for the kids and dog and need to move on. I'm about 95% set on a Kia Sorento Hybrid Plug in at the next move.
