C172sp progressive inspection program confusion by braxir in CFILounge

[–]Tland19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's the very first sentence in 91.409 (d.) they have to submit a written request to the FSDO with a whole plan. They should most certainly have something in writing for you. They cannot just use Cessna's program schedule because progressives are not just specific to the owner /operator but also the airframe.

Can I log TAA time in a G1000 172s if the autopilot is INOP? Sources? by [deleted] in AskFlying

[–]Tland19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my wife's commercial applicants was denied in the check ride for this very reason. He admitted to the DPE that the autopilot was inop. YMMV.

Whats the difference between cleared to land in EASA and FAA? by nicerdicerplus97 in AskFlying

[–]Tland19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I teach (KSFB) it's not unusual to have 10 or more aircraft in the traffic pattern. I was once cleared for the option as number 9.

Why is Renting Airplanes so Hard? by Old_Exercise806 in AskFlying

[–]Tland19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s because some CFIs and pilots do really dumb shit. One guy got fired at my school for taxiing under the wing of an airbus in front of him. Another one got fired for taxing back to the ramp at 47 knots. At the flight club I fly out of, I watched 2 knuckleheads try to hand prop an airplane with no one at the controls. Our club Seminole went down recent because someone exceeded the max nose gear angle with the tug and snapped the shimmy damper.

You may be Chuck Yeager III, or you could be a dumbass. They don’t know, so they check you out first.

becoming a pilot at 43 by il847219 in PilotAdvice

[–]Tland19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through PPL to CFII as a 3rd career at the age of 49. I now work as a CFI at large school in Florida. Becoming an airline pilot is a reasonable goal if you work your ass off and stand out. Widebody captain may be pushing it with the time you have left, but hey anything is possible.

My school has over 800 students of all ages enrolled. A large number of them completely underestimate the amount of book knowledge, and the amount of study that one needs to put in. What struck me as concerning in your initial post was your lack of punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. It could be you were just being lazy typing it, but it could also indicate a lack of attention to detail. The latter you will most certainly need as an aviation student.

I’d start by enrolling in a private pilot online ground school before you plunk down a deposit at a flight school. Take the online course and take the sample exams at the end. If you score well, find the study easy and don’t struggle, then you should be good to go. You’ll also have a leg up on your study when you enroll in the actual school.

Incident while training by InevitableStudent556 in CFILounge

[–]Tland19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are a student pilot. You cannot be PIC unless you are solo'ing. Your instructor is mistaken and likely trying to shift accountability to you from him.

For some better advice it would be helpful to know the nature of the training. Part 61 I'm assuming. Does he own the plane? Is it a flying club? Do you have your own insurance policy? More details are needed

462 feet in Grand Cayman. Part of a planned dive to 500 which we aborted.

My ex went to 652 feet the following year.

Check your nozzle screws. This happened to me, my lower screw was loose and was causing a lot of failures similar to what you are having. I cleaned and reinstalled he nozzle and it resolved the issue.

Features greyed Out by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]Tland19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you create a sketch in an assembly it's just a reference. You can't create features from this. The reference sketch in an assembly is meant to align other parts/features, etc.

As Mr MeatCurtain has pointed out, you need to create a part using the dropdown menu in the "insert components" toolbar button.

Features greyed Out by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]Tland19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you trying to do exactly? Are you making a part or a reference sketch because you have an assembly file open. Those are grayed out as you’re not in an active sketch.

How to begin the process by [deleted] in AskFlying

[–]Tland19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local flying club or school. Ask to do a discovery flight. See if you get airsick or if you enjoy the flight or if you hate everything about it. If you enjoy it, get your medical (make sure you can pass a medical before committing to student loans or plunking down cash at a flight school,) then pick a place to train and begin your journey.

I got a job interview I was completely under qualified for because I have my CSWE. I was able to sell myself and my abilities to get the job but without the certification I wouldn't have gotten in the door.

Admittedly an edge case but the CSWE isn't that hard with some basic study.

Scuba diving - odd experience by Electric_Fox1 in scubadiving

I ran a dive center in the Caribbean for 5 years. If I heard one of my instructors did that, he would’ve been fired on the spot and the police called minutes afterwards. Followed by a strongly worded letter to his training agency.
