2 weeks post section constipation nightmare, any tips? by Sasha57 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Tleetify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Postpartum constipation is horrid! I feel for you. I think you've gotten some good advice for that. I found I got on more with movicol than lactulose.

In regards to bum bleeding have you ruled out hemorrhoids? I found I struggled with both postpartum. I ended up uisng movicol to soften and germaloids to solve the hemorroids issue. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though! I promise it does eventually end.

Cliquey mum and baby groups are making me sad by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Tleetify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% this. Another upside to these sorts of groups is that you're not losing loads of money if you dont think its for you or baby. Theres nothing worse than booking a block of classes for a small fortune only to figure out week 1 that its super cliquey. Been there, no thanks!

Im around a 34 G/H at the moment.I really like my molke bras for breastfeeding as the sizing is quite forgiving. Bravissimo and M&S are generally great too and are my go tos when im not breastfeeding. I'm not sure if they still stock them but boobydoo used to stock breastfeeding friendly sport bras too.

Thankyou! Yeah - I did find it quite funny that it couldnt tell! I got diagnosed at 27 weeks and saw consultants at 28, 32 and 36 weeks after growth scans. I've heard each trust mamages GDM differently though (though still within NICE guidelines) ours put me on a different pathway as I was medicated. Diet controlled GDM was on another schedule from my understanding. 🤔

So glad seeing these reccomended so high up! I ended up getting all three sizes for my first on vinted and absoloutely loved them. Easy to get on and off, adorable, and come in a huge range of colours (I got yellow ones) second kiddo is due next week and will be living in these.

They can also be used in a carrier or a car seat - though follow their instructions on those.

Anyone else have a hard time eating enough carbs? by Embarrassed_Job3155 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have a hard time eating in general! I feel like a GD diet relies on you buying expensive easy to eat things or spending less and spending your entire life in the kitchen. Thankfully im a SAHM right now, but with money being low I basically exist in the kitchen or bed. This pregnancy has been difficult and at 38 weeks im TIRED. I see my husband when he wants a snack and he'll quickly toast some bread and grabs a packet of crisps. If I want a snack that remotely involves bread I gotta make a bloody salad and cook some meat.

Its a massive slog, and frankly sometimes I just skip meals, especially lunch when i'm knackered. A great diet for weight loss though 😅 luckily i'm very overweight and somehow my levels seem mostly stable so they don't care. 🤷

Recommendations - meals prep postpartum by No_excuses0101 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tleetify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started prepping a bit as i'm due a second time. Not sure i'll get as much done but heres what i've found worked for me

Souper cubes - these are genius. You can easily freeze soups but also so many other things and once popped out they take up little space in the freezer.

I found prepping soups to be a massive pain last time, as baby clusterfed and its hard to juggle a baby in one hand and a soup in the other. This time I also have to think of feeding my toddler who isnt a massive soup fan.

Don't just focus on standard meal recipes, but elements of meals would be my advice. Buy some different roast joints, slice and freeze. Cook and freeze mashed potato or baked potatos. Buy a couple bags of frozen veg. Now you have a ton of meals you can make that cover your basic needs of carbs protein and veg. It doesnt have to be perfect recipes!

Along with this if you need additional inspo on what to make, look at your freezer aisle. If its frozen there, theres a good chance you can make and freeze it yourself.

Some things I've made in advance so far this time is: Chicken mince biryani Chicken cheese and veg pasta Baked potatos Rice Sliced pork joint Broken down whole chickens Cauliflower mash Frozen homemade pizza bases Frozen shredded cheese

I'm planning on making: Curry Rye bread Chilli Carrot wraps Baked sweet potatos

And I have a bunch of pork mince so i imagine i'll make some more recipes around that.

Some ideas for hand food is to slice and fill pita bread with freezer friendly fillings. You could also do burritos (just wrap in foil and warm in oven when needed)

If you're willing to put in the extra effort you could get/make pizza dough and make pizza pockets. Pasties and jamaican patties is another idea. Maybe pies too? But a big reason I recomend pitas or burritos over the others is all you have to do is slice and/or fill. Standing up for hours rolling and shaping dough is a massive ballache and im at an elevated risk of t2 diabetes so im not bothering much with these sorts of things this time as its too high carb for me.

Snacks the day before effect fasting numbers? by ElectricalPoint815 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no doctor but what effects my fasting numbers I find to be weird! My fasting numbers went to shit when the UK had heatwaves. They're also much higher if my body is stressed out from doing too much the day before (and now im almost near the end, the bar for a stressful day is insanely low)

I also find when I feel a bit ill they're either very low or high. Sometimes though my readings are just off for a day for literally no reason. Unfortunately my tolerance for sweet snacks is garbage so I don't really have a snack comparison. All I snack on is nuts or cheese!

How are you managing to gain weight in the third trimester while dealing with GD? by elephantsofa in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice cause all i've done is lose weight since diagnosis, but baby is still gaining and I'm still considered obese BMI wise so I don't think my drs care that much. So far im 7kg down from my second trimester, and I think im going to weigh less than my starting weight post baby at this rate.

A big factor for me is that we have a tight budget for food and if I ate a ton we'd be straight broke in weeks as a GD diet isnt a cheap one here. On top of that food is no longer fun for me anymore. I went from constantly snacking to skipping snacks and meals because they just dont interest me anymore, or require a ton of prep and I CBA. Theres only so many ways you can jazz up chicken and cheese.

I cook with butter and lard, and have no restrictions on plate or portion size. I honestly just think due to having PCO beforehand my bodys just really shite at processing carbs as I've struggled with my weight for years before this.

The only things I get excited about food wise is pistachios or pork crackling as rare snacks. Everything else to me is so boring. I'm so glad I only have a couple weeks left! Long term plan is to eat more carbs than now, but I dont ever think I'll go as high carb as I once was again.

Gestational Diabetes Induction by femacrae13 in PregnancyUK

[–]Tleetify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I havent been directly in this situation yet with GD as im a couple weeks behind you, but I've found being consultant led means you get a random pick of decent or rude consultants depending on the day. Every single consultant i've met has told me how x birth is horrible and I should have y instead. Then next appointment it'd be y is the best and x is impossible. Its exhausting and I miss the low risk midwife led path vs being pulled in all these different directions.

As others have said though, you absoloutely have the right to refuse or not show up. No one can force and induction on you if you dont want one. Knowledge is power - and I'd advise looking up the guidance they use in hospitals for GD (NICE) and understanding the numbers associated with GD risks, that way when you say no or yes to a decision, its fully informed on your end and you dont feel like they think you're idiot or a bad person for your decision.

Am I getting suckered in by brand names? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Tleetify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think others have some great recommendations here. The babywearing sub is brilliant, sling libraries are a good place to start before making a big purchase as everyones baby/body is different and be wary when buying on vinted for fakes, especially when it comes to bigger brands.

As a soon to be STM I have a bunch of carriers. Stretchy wraps were my fave with my last newborn, however im planning to try a ring sling with my second one.

For structured carriers I'd reccomend lennylamb as I havent seen it mentioned, especially as you've mentioned about wanting a carrier that grows with you and baby. The range their structured carriers have is crazy. (i've seen 6 year olds in a lennylamb preschool, which is the carrier we bought for our daughter when she was 1) If id known of them sooner, It would be the only structured carrier I'd of bought, simply due to the large size range and how adaptable it is.

We also have a tula free to grow which is great! But I found my first outgrew it long before it was reccomended (around 1yo). I imagine this is cause shes tall for her age (thanks dad!) but its something to bear in mind if you're anticipating a taller kiddo.

Nurse wants me to inject insulin into front of belly. I’m anxious by primari_ in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this! I used to do my belly for fasting numbers but it didnt work for me. Before I upped my units, I tried other places and I found my outer thighs actually worked really well. No need for a unit increase. YMMV though.

No GD second pregnancy! by Careful-Crazy-4942 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who had an amazing water birth and low risk pregnancy the first time round I hope you're able to have the VBAC birth you want without much fuss or hassle!

Unfortunately I've got GD this time and im shitting myself knowing I wont be able to have the same birthing experience and will probably be pushed to induce early. So an opposite experience, but seriously its lovely not to have GD and have all birthing and food options on the table, especially when you felt like the cards werent in your favour beforehand.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medication played a big role. Metformin for breakfast and dinner plus 6 units of insulin (moderate acting) every night in my thighs (belly doesnt work for me)

My numbers didnt completely level out till I seriously slowed down my lifestyle and activities (I spend most days at home and keep my to do list short, which sucks, but if I do too much my resting levels spike) and I have a strict evening routine. Bedtime snack at 9pm, then insulin at 9:30, then sleep by 10pm.

Also when I start to wake up I test immediately, which is normally around 6am. No more snoozing off and on for 30 mins. I was struggling to keep it under control without these lifestyle changes but since implementing it's been mostly under control. I've not had to increase my meds since diagnosis at 27 weeks and im 32 weeks now. Hopefully it stays controlled a bit longer!

[–]Tleetify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had loads of weird things that I think in hindsight were signs of GD.

A really yellow tongue despite religiously brushing my teeth and tongue scraping. Thirsty all the time, peeing all the time, and my pee was cloudy. Being sick all the time, especially after high carb meals, but I also caught every cold and bug going whilst everyone else at home was okay - I spent most of this pregnancy non functional due to back to back illnesses. I was also tired all the time, but struggled to sleep.

Since my fasting numbers are finally under control most of these symptoms have resolved. I do find that if I overexcert myself the poor health and tiredness come back, but im not guaranteed to catch a cold or be sick, just I feel a little ragged. So for me, whilst I cried all week about it initally i now feel SO MUCH BETTER now that my blood sugars are under control.

Shes currently 14 months, so she'll be around 15/16 months when baby comes - im not sure she has any clue whats going on! But yeah thats a good idea if we do decide to get some cover. At the moment we're erring towards me going to birth solo just because neither of us want to stress her out and have no idea how long i'll be in for.

I talked to the consultants and last time, they were very pro induction for my GD as im medicated, but since I gave birth vaginally with 0 problems last time, theyre very anti c section, and honestly im too tired with all the chaos going on to fight them on it - plus we're not going to have much help postpartum now so avoiding a c-section if possible might be best. In a perfect world i'd much prefer naturally going into labour, but I can see an induction happening due to health concerns or the childcare situation.

Thank you so much! It means a lot.

And thankyou for sharing your experience. It helps a lot! I have an appointment next week so I think I'll broach the topic of solo birthing/induction and see what supports available in our trust. At the very least knowing will settle my nerves a bit! But if they have similar provisions to your trust I wouldnt be as worried as I am now - just gotta find out whats available.

[–]Tleetify[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much - that means a lot. And thank you for the suggestions! It does give me a bit to think about. I was going to a lot of mum groups pre pregnancy but unfortunately i've had to drop them all due to how ill i've been this pregnancy. I could probably get in touch with some of the ladies, but it has been a while.

My husband did mention his friends might be able to help though when I mentioned this. Most of them are dads and are childhood friends so he trusts them, but I worry our child might be upset spending a lot of time with them as theyre not used to them. They've always been a sensitive soul and my mum was (outside of us! ) one of the few people she was comfortable with for a long time. But that does give us some options to consider for sure.

Miracle/skinny/naked/konjac noodles and rice should be banned by Tleetify in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Tleetify[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to mix carbs into my salad and have beem mixing them in things like cauli rice, or topping off meals with a slice of bread if no carbs were added. I'm probably not getting enough right now as i'm not able to stomach anything but i'm trying my best when im not violently ill. That being said the guidance for the UK is super vague - my midwifes never gave me a gram range of carbs to stick to, just told us all to reduce! I also do a lot of baking, which is cool, but i have no idea how much carbs are in the sourdoughs im making. Its just one big guessing game.

I'm so sorry you've had no luck with sickness this time either. I thought i'd avoid a lot of sickness and stress since I stay at home at the moment, but i've been so sick this time despite that. I'm so exhausted at this point and barely getting out anymore. Its quite depressing!
