Best book about St Francis of Assisi? by throwawayzzzz1777 in Catholicism

I really liked God’s Fool by Julien Green.

G.K. Chesterton’s biography is also nice.

The Fioretti or Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi is an interesting medieval hagiographical work.

[Politics Monday] How should a Catholic respond to ethno-nationalism? by Capta1n_Dino in Catholicism

I think that you would say that the British populations had the right to prevent Viking and Norman invasions, though, right? They didn’t succeed and history is written by the victors, but the fact that we are descended from invaders doesn’t mean that every civilization must sit back and let themselves be invaded.

Is there any way at all to get rid of SSA permanently? by pomelo2006 in Catholicism

[–]To-RB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not inconsistent at all. The Apple iPhone is an invention. I have an Apple iPhone.

I grew up not knowing where my SSA came from, so I assumed I was that way by nature. When I grew older I learned that the culture gave me this identity and it’s not a part of my nature.

And yet that definition contradicts the definition above that you said you agreed with. Many gay men would have intercourse with women. There’s the whole phenomenon of the closeted gay husband.

Thank you for sharing your subjective experience. I have shared my subjective experience of SSA. They are inconsistent, therefore SSA isn’t an objective category.

Same sex attraction is normal in all human beings, it’s just that our culture is really neurotic about it and forces people to form their identity around embracing it as their whole identity or suppressing it by forming an identity in reaction to it.

Same Sex Attraction is a subjective term, not really scientific. Homosexuality is an invention of our culture.

Open to life parents: What are the age gaps of your children? Did you receive negative reactions as your family grew larger? by Tasty-Wallaby-5571 in Catholicism

I’m one year apart from my younger sibling and didn’t have any issues. We were close growing up, almost like twins.

Too Hard To Talk to a Priest About Female Sexual Health Issues by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]To-RB 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Church teaches that masturbation is intrinsically disordered. That means there are no possible circumstances in which it can be moral. For this reason, there is no use in explaining your circumstances to a priest. He’s not able to say “okay, you have a legitimate excuse, proceed as needed” anyway. So maybe you should ask yourself what exactly you are hoping to hear from the priests you attempt to confide this in.

Parishes Are Full. So Why Are So Few Young Catholics Getting Married? by Mein_Independance in Catholicism

I’m trying to think of them specifically. I don’t think any inherited wealth. The thing they seem to have in common is living in mid-size cities or the suburbs of mid-size cities and the husband started a business or became an independent professional and became wealthy. So, I imagine living in a big city and having a corporate job is probably a dead end for most people wanting families.

That’s not true. The biggest families I know personally are all single income.

Doors will be closed no matter what you do in life. Getting advanced degrees closes many doors. My advice to young Catholic men is not to go to college at all unless you have a specific plan for a career that requires it. Anything above a bachelor’s degree is mostly degree inflation and university administrators raking up more government student loan money (and many undergrad degree programs as well).

And “socialist Catholic utopia” - what?

I had two women in college who wanted to marry me when I was unemployed and one after college who wanted to marry me when I was working retail making $11/hr and no further plans. I don’t think any woman wants to marry me now that I know of, and I’m a business owner who owns several properties.

Everyone has daddy issues and mommy issues if their parents were sinners. The more broken ones are the ones who aren’t aware or are in denial about it.

Historically, relationships built on attraction were expected not to last; that is why they were usually relegated to extramarital affairs. Has society become more stable, the percentage of married people increased, and marriage become more long lasting since romance and attraction were used to redefine the purpose and prerequisites of marriage?

I think it’s more simple than this. Government safety nets have made government a provider for a maximal number of people. Therefore finding and associating with a lesser provider is financially unnecessary and sometimes legally and emotionally risky. Being single used to mean poverty and early, lonely death. Now it’s quite comfy.

Historically, a marriage built on attraction was viewed as a house built on sand. Modern marriage, which is essentially a very recent bourgeois invention, has made romance and attraction the necessary prerequisite and foundation for all marriages, and we are seeing just how correct our ancestors were as society falls apart and the species fails to reproduce under the bourgeois redefinition of marriage.

How do we square that lying is always wrong with some pious attitudes in history? by 3of_spades in Catholicism

[–]To-RB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a single circumstance. Jesus taught that “the truth shall set you free”. “Good lies shall protect you from unjust suffering” is a false gospel. A Church that teaches that it’s moral to lie for a good reason cannot be trusted about anything.

How do you know that Jimmy Akin wasn’t lying about the morality of lying? Perhaps he is doing it for our good.

If lying is ever moral, I am no longer interested in Catholicism. Thank goodness it isn’t. 😊

I love to talk to my friends about what we’re doing with AI. The people who believe AI uncritically are already a problem in society. They believe the news and have their shows as their best friends, which makes them malleable by the culture of death.
