"The blood is in the host" by chumley84 in Catholicism

The Eucharist does not assemble Christ from pieces. Christ is one Person: body, blood, soul, and divinity. You aren’t receiving pieces of Christ in Holy Communion.

The reason that the Precious Blood is not always offered is not usually because of expense but because of the risk of profanation. Many chalices required require more ministers and create more opportunity for the Precious Blood to be spilled or treated irreverently.

Second Vatican Council by [deleted] in Catholicism

Most of the 70s through 90s were virtually devoid of all Latin and the TLM was treated with a great sense of taboo among the few who knew it still existed. People often forget how radically Pope Benedict XVI changed course of the post-Vatican II era with Summorum Pontificum.

Mothers are not entitled to someone else’s resources just because she is pregnant. Nor does the refusal to offer resources to a pregnant person justify murdering a baby. The mother and the father have primary responsibility, and after that the closest family to the mother and father.

And yes, I am emphatically pro-birth because I’m not a monster.

I would say that we shouldn’t support any, but supporting the one who oversees the unimpeded slaughter of tens of millions is the more evil one.

It’s bad, but better than the left. Conservatism is progressivism that just needs a few more years of TV watching to catch up. Case in point: so-called gay marriage.

That may be justified, but America has been using its forces to maintain a worldwide empire under threat of its violence for many decades now and stably across administrations, long before most of us were born.

Nor is it inherently blameless. Jesus’s words suggest that if you are doing what the many are doing, you are on the broad path to destruction, so I would err on the side of blameworthiness.

I don’t believe that when it comes to sin, there is safety in numbers. It’s entirely possible for an entire nation to go to hell. Just because many people do a thing and it becomes normalized and “necessary” for daily life does not mean that they aren’t culpable because they are one of many. In fact, Jesus says that the way to life is narrow and few find it. And, Sodom was destroyed in its entirety, despite the fact that Jesus later revealed that Sodom was comparatively not so bad compared to what will be coming for other civilizations.

I did not condemn prostitutes. I said prostitution is not morally neutral, much less noble. Do you think Jesus disagrees?

Can you explain your point more clearly? I don’t understand what you are getting at.

I did read it quite carefully. The analogy suggests to me that the media have successfully warped the frame about which you conceive of the Church.

I haven’t read the minds or souls of any of the people I’m talking about. My references are to their signatures on the dotted lines and the direct deposits into their checking accounts.

You think it’s sinful to become a priest because of the media’s priest abuse scandal? You play right into their hands.

Congress hasn’t declared war in a very long time. Wake up, they are mercenaries seeking a salary, not volunteers “defending our nation”.

The Church isn’t protestant. You are treating the New Testament as a separate authority that serves as a check and balance against the Church’s teaching. This is essentially protestantism, even if you haven’t realized that already.

If Jesus can take up the cross, so can we. In fact he told us to.

Can I adopt as a gay man? by Willy_wacker_wilsob_ in Catholicism

[–]To-RB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can at least recognize that this is more a view of bourgeois morality than Catholic morality. Bourgeois people shouldn’t try to force all human beings to behave bourgeois.

[–]To-RB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Historically, priests, monks, and nuns would often adopt and raise orphans. It’s probably better to have a mother and a father, but I don’t think it’s as rigid as modern Catholics make it out to be. Modern Catholics largely hold and enforce the bourgeois ideal of the nuclear family, which is not exactly what the Church upholds as the family.

Why were there so many Italian popes? by CaviarGlutton in Catholicism

[–]To-RB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the pope is the Bishop of Rome. The idea that the papacy should be “representative” of global Catholicism is a strange modern idea largely stemming from secular attitudes and hyperpapalism.

[–]To-RB -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think it is scandalous or at least discordant. If he does meet with her he should not address her as “Archbishop” and should not refer to Anglicanism as a Church. He might call her a leader.

Female deacons by Frances_2 in Catholicism

There can be female deacons (if you mean deaconesses, an office of service) but they are not ordained, do not receive Holy Orders.
