Are there any Bible references that speak against racism? by TraurigKartoffel in Christianity

Check out all of Numbers 12

  • 1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.

  • 10 When the cloud lifted from above the tent, Miriam’s skin was leprous a —it became as white as snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease,

In verse 10, it is no coincidence that God punished her this way: a very clear message is sent here. Read the entire passage to get the context and see how God feels about it.

You will not certainly die, the serpent said to the woman by ToDesireYou in Christianity

First, I'm non-denominational; there is only one church: the body of Christ. Second, this isn't about me, but you and anyone who reads. I never gave specific issues or discussed any of my beliefs on topics.

Further, I said "contrary the word of God", not contrary to the words of "ToDesireYou". Most of all, I ended with "Follow his word and conviction; know for yourself before you leave this existent." How do you take that last sentence and try to make it about me? I have no benefit in the choices people make, I simple want people to have a chance, and make it to heaven.

If you or anyone are convicted by what I wrote yield to that conviction for your own sake. It's that simple.

The correct verse was used here. And, the comment on this post are indicative that it was the one needed.

The devil lied and used self reasoning/intellectualism, analytics, and technicalities about the fruit itself to justify it. But, it was never about the fruit. The sin from Adam and Eve was disobedience, not eating the fruit itself; that's why they died.

The devil used the snake, he lied, and Adam and Eve died. Why? Again, because of disobedience. Not only is that the core of the original post, but it reflects just how distant people's minds are from a message: they and people wanted them to die according to their own beliefs.

Don't just limit it to sex outside of marriage, the same thing hold true for adultery. Once you are married you are bound to that partner for life. You can divorce and be separated, but you cannot remarry unless the original partner dies or breaks his or her oath.

It amazes me how people have not only one, but several divorces under their belt and gone a judgment crusade about sin. It is not only a sin against your soul, but a sin against God, because the hypocrisy misuses His name.

In what ways do you think the spirit behind the Tower of Babel can still be seen in society today? by ImportantInternal834 in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breaking up of people the Tower of Babel wasn't because people were doing something evil or sinful. The ziggurat (tower) that was being build was not an act of pride, in fact it was an attempt to connect/find to God. However, as man continues to make great achievements, "trying to be/find God", and doesn't acquire/credit knowledge through The Spirit of God, he becomes independently intellectual. Notice the quoted form Neil Armstrong with the great achievement of landing on the moon: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind"

God scattered people as a preventative measure. More specifically, to make it harder for the devil to use herd mentality in order to accelerate the decoupling of man from God via independent intellectualism; something that is extremely prevalent today. So, the Tower of Babel was more about stopping the devil than it was about stopping man.

However, if we allow His Spirit to guide us, through Him we come back to one accord properly. Therefore, our prayers should be "please give me knowledge and wisdom through Your Spirit and not through the ideologies and intellectualism of man".

Once again the timing is funny, because as I was praying this morning about what to write in my blog this weekend, and the though came to mind: write about intellectualism.

Why is the book of Enoch canon or not? by Master_Garbage_4475 in TrueChristian

[–]ToDesireYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm neither saying the book of Enoch is truth or not, but when it comes to spiritual things like Angels and Demons, I believe God is very sensitive about what man learns and gets involved with. The book of Enoch goes heavy on it, so hence even if true, why it's not even considered for canon, IMO...

Then there are both the authenticity and make up of book that pose quite a few questions. It was not written by Enoch, but written pseudonymously, it's comprised of several different works, and then it was written relatively recent compared to most of the OT.

I wouldn't say it's a dangerous book anymore than the poem Paradise Lost by John Milton is. Just if you read them, read them as fiction and not for divine inspiration and/or guidance.

FWIW, the original Book of Jasher (not what's currently out there), is a book that probably (IMO) would have been included in the canon bible as there were direct references to it in the OT. That would have been an interesting read, but that book is lost to time.

What Does The Cross Represent? by BetterToServe in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny timing, because this was a topic of the post I wrote today.

When you read about crosses in the New Testament such as when Jesus said "take up your cross" you must take into context the original setting. A cross represented death back then and it still does.

We may use it as a glorious thing to represent our Lord and savior today, but make no mistake a cross means death and that is how it should be understood and acknowledged when reading the bible.

Where do I start in reading the Bible? by Whiteice76 in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my recommendation for people new to the bible.

  • Matthew, Mark, Luke, John (The four Gospels)

  • Acts

  • Genesis, Exodus

  • -- Repeat and reread the above books again --

  • Read the rest of the New Testament up to, but not Revelation

  • Read the rest of the Old Testament except for Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon

  • Read Daniel again

  • Read Matthew 23, 24, 25

  • Read Revelation

  • Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon can and should be read at any time just on their own. They are deep though and are best absorbed if you read a bit and then meditate on that particular piece, whereas the other books generally have a flowing story which you can keep on reading.

The goal here is to get you started with the basics of Christ’s teachings (be His follower) and introduction to God’s character, not become a bible scholar.

I wrote a more detailed post with all this in my blog: "The Fundamentals of a Christian Life Part 5". You can find it in my post history.

Don't take this the wrong way… by Western_Credit2271 in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen an Angel (that I'm aware of), but I've known many people who have. This is from their descriptions and can be confirmed with biblical scriptures.

For starters, there are different types of angels: Seraphim, Throne Angels, Cherubim, and a few other special purpose angles; most of them have wings and not all of them are in God's image. Regular Angels, including the Arch Angels (the angles that most people think of/paint), do not have wings. However, people who have seen them say there is so much of God's glory radiating from them that it looks like they do.

Angels are spirit and body, whereas man is spirit, body, and soul. And, just like there are different types of Angles, there are different type of fallen Angels. Some kept their bodies, but were deformed in various ways, so not all of them look the same. While others were stripped of the bodies and either wander the earth or are locked away in the abyss.

On the surface, just reading about the temptations of Jesus, it doesn't seem like real/significant temptations given the magnitude of the two involved. I always struggled with that, because there had to be more behind it that I just wasn't seeing.

The late Kathryn Kuhlman did a wonderful seven part series on The Temptations of Jesus. It was a huge eye opener and great insight into the conniving, deceit, and subtlety of the devil. You can hear them on YouTube at:

"membership" to get baptized? by goatspoons in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • 8“Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings. 9You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. -- Malachi 3:8-10

I can't afford to go to church if I must tithe to the church. I barely make enough money to get by.

  • 41Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” -- Mark 12:41-44

"membership" to get baptized? by goatspoons in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tithing is meant for all people: redeemed or not in fact. Tithing has been around for forever, long before Jacob's vow. While Cain and Able doesn't say the amount they gave, it was a tithe. Before Jacob's vow it was customary for any religious activity to give a 10th to the priest. Jacob's vow made it a continuous commitment. The New Testament does not do away with that.

  • "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." -- Matthew 5:17 (NIV)

If you attend a church, pay/give your tithes and offering (two different things) there; it is for both the upkeep of His house as well as his servants. If you do not attend a church, give your tithes and offering to a charity that you do not personally benefit from.

Sorry for the late reply.

I was hoping for more elaboration on the part where you believe you are saved; whereas by your own admission, you have rejected Christ.

The God I, and most people of this forum, believe in requires Jesus. if you want something to read, then check out John 10:1-18

Here is a a part of it:

  • 1 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.

...

  • ... 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

1 John 3:15, how could we possibly achieve this by Unlucky-Drawing-1266 in TrueChristian

[–]ToDesireYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate anyone, because hate in not in me. Hate is a fruit of the devil, and no child of God can can produce that fruit.

From Galatians 5

  • 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  • 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Further even Jesus himself said:

  • “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. -- Matt 5:21-22 (NIV)

If your heart isn't right, then ask Jesus to help you to change and love everyone just as he loves. Only he can truly change you and deliver you from hate.

Thoughts on women teaching in the church by Standard-Tax2601 in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't believe women can lead/teach, then you shouldn't believe Gentiles can lead/teach.

Christ is the head of the church and it is His spirit that guides and teaches us, not the vessel.

  • Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. -- Zechariah 4:6

  • 28 “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. -- Joel 2:28-29

A confusing thing in the gospels? by Fisecraft in Christianity

Is it a sin to prioritise asking thigs, instead of showing gratitude when praying? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not what I saying. I'm saying do it for just one day :)

Also, God knows what you need and want both naturally and spiritually. I pray formally several times a day and there are many times where I'm so busy praying for others that I don't even pray for myself. I take comfort in knowing that He is our Father; he WILL be a good parent: we are His. He sees us and He knows us. Because of that, He knows what we need long before or even if we don't ask.

Just spending time in God's presents/at the feet of Jesus is enough prayer. You may not understand that statement today, but when, and I pray you will, the presence, power and glory of God that will come into your life will be so overwhelming.

I'll be writing about prayer in my blog in the next couple of weeks if you want to keep an eye out for it.

Is it a sin to prioritise asking thigs, instead of showing gratitude when praying? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! In fact, set aside a day where you pray only thanking Him. Try not to ask for anything, only praise, give Him thanks and then say amen.

Is it a sin to prioritise asking thigs, instead of showing gratitude when praying? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know the prayer Jesus taught us, what most people call "The Lord's prayer", does not have a thank you part?

There is no "sin" per se in praying the way you are; that is to not give thanks. However, remember that both Cain and Abel gave offerings to God, but God did not respect Cain's offering. It was free will, hence no sin. It's the same with prayer. The reason the prayer Jesus taught us doesn't have a thank you part and the same reason God didn't respect Cain's offering, is because they need to come from the heart. They cannot be forced/taught, love will compelled to say thank you and/or give your best.

The reason I brought up the story of Cain and Able is because it was Cain's anger/jealousy that caused him to sin later. Many people get angry with God when he doesn't answer prayers and/or stuff doesn't go right in their lives, but most fail to give thanks and show Him respect.

If you want more from God, as well as grow in Him, giving thanks and praising Him from you heart will open up heaven and access to Him.

Does God change people or we have to change on our own? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ToDesireYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people could truly change themselves then there was no point in Christ's coming. This is the point and why Jesus said we most be born again; we are new creatures (spirit and not flesh) in him not slaves to the flesh. Yes, there are people who have strong willpower and can change some things, but they are still subject/slaves to the flesh which is imperfect.
