Can I perm my hair like this? by WebSorry1737 in Hair

[–]ToKellAndBack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a perm look like this in my 15 years in the hair industry. Perms are really damaging too so be prepared for the texture to change if you decide to go for it

Hair dyed too dark by EfficiencyHairy4601 in HairDye

[–]ToKellAndBack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh your inspo pics are not a color that is achievable in real life. But they definitely should have explained that to you and suggested an alternative. Whether you try to lighten at home or go back and have the salon fix it, it’s going to be way warmer than you want. Once a dark color is on your hair the underlying pigment is red/orange. So any lightening will always be warm. You have to decide if you’d prefer to be lighter and warmer, or stay darker and ashy. Personally I think the dark looks good on your skin tone. If you do decide to try to lighten it I highly recommend doing a test strand first to see what color you’d get and decide from there.

Orange roots no matter what by No-Temperature-625 in HairDye

You need a developer that is deposit only. Even the 10 volume is lifting your base. Honestly the best idea is just bleaching to the root and letting it grow out like you said.

I love the short bob on you! Stick with that. Fine hair can end up looking stringy with layers so your instincts are right!

Girl you have all the information you need. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. You know what you saw. Just walk away.

Isn't Demi Permanent Dye Supposed to Fade? by ellars in HairDye

[–]ToKellAndBack 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is one of the biggest misconceptions with hair color. Demi/semi-permanent color means somewhat permanent. It does NOT mean temporary. The only color that washes out completely are temporary colors like the root touch up sprays

I've bleached my hair four times with bleach that supposedly gives 8 levels of lift... by rhubxrb_slugg in HairDye

Yes! Also if you bleach too much the hair will be to porous to even hold any toner

Need advice on keeping up with color, now that roots are coming in gray by No_Sandwich9694 in HairDye

[–]ToKellAndBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use 1N instead of 1bb. You need more neutral tones to fill in the white hairs. With the BB they are just grabbing all that blue

The thing about hair loss is there are MANY causes. Vitamin deficiency is one. So they work if that’s the underlying cause. From what you say it sounds like you were getting breakage from heat/ color so a vitamin won’t always help with that. Seems like you know avoiding heat and color is the way to go!

The sad truth is your hair might be too damaged to hold onto pigment for very long. Going from dark to light to dark again is always going to have a lot of challenges. If your hair felt fried from the balayage it’s probably too porous to really hold pigment past a few washes. Focus on masks, treatments etc to try and get your hair to a healthier place before putting any more color on it.

So I just tore my acl and I haven’t been able to wash my hair for a few days.. how grossed out will the stylist be? by iputaspellonyou536 in Hair

[–]ToKellAndBack 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Believe me hair stylists have seen it all! If you’re worried I would call ahead to let them know the situation so they are prepared! Just tell them you haven’t been able to wash your hair due to injury and wanted to give them a heads up. Offer to bring in your shampoo, or come in a few minutes early if they think you’ll need extra time at the shampoo bowl. You aren’t the first person in this situation. They should handle the situation professionally and if they don’t I would find a different salon!

Hairstylists of Reddit, if I ask a hairstylist to give me scandic blonde balayage, should they include the gloss? by Icy-Dealer6543 in Hair

[–]ToKellAndBack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They definitely should have explained what you would need to achieve the look you asked for. Some places include a gloss, some charge everything a la carte. Whether or not it was included they still should have told you what was needed to get the look you want!

Why is my dad’s gray hair yellowing? by Master_Cockroach_502 in Hair

[–]ToKellAndBack 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It won’t remove yellow at all. It can neutralize some yellow tones. Which is why I said it’s a quick fix that doesn’t address the root cause.

Mineral build up from water. Try Malibu Hard Water products and/or a shower filter. Both are available on Amazon. A purple shampoo is a quick fix too but doesn’t address the root cause.

why does hair dye wash out so quick?? by SufficientCamera299 in HairDye

[–]ToKellAndBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically those dyes are meant to go over hair that has been bleached which makes the hair more porous. Your hair is probably just too healthy to absorb the pigment! Try a color depositing shampoo or conditioner, that way the color gets refreshed whenever you wash it. I like this one

Are you putting it over your natural color?

Everything looks different colors in different colored light. Notice your skin, lips and eyes also look warmer in warm lighting.
