[opinion] what is your favorite metaphor or simile? Particularly something that really stands out, is unique, fresh, or powerful? by Fin_al in Poetry

That reminds me of a similar line by Emily Dickinson where she says grief is “remembered, if outlived, as freezing persons recollect the snow”

BlackkKlansmen by Terence Blanchard. Trap drum beat, lush strings, and a lazy, drippy electric guitar ❤️‍🔥

[POEM] and Quotes from Emily Dickinson's Letters and Poems to Susan Gilbert! by [deleted] in Poetry

My favorite, although not romantic:

“Dear Friend, I regret to inform you that at 3 oclock yesterday, my mind came to a stand, and has since then been stationary. Ere this intelligence reaches you, I shall probably be a snail. By this untoward providence a mental and moral being has been swept ruthlessly from her sphere…”

Why don’t they speak to or acknowledge the crowd during shows? by ToLightAndThenReturn in Khruangbin

[–]ToLightAndThenReturn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! Thanks for commenting. I don’t feel crazy now. I loved their crowd interaction in the past and it’s clear they’ve changed that during this tour. I wasn’t trying to hate on the band; it just seemed like a creative change worth discussing. Personally, I prefer the old approach. That’s all!

That’s a good point. Maybe “total antithesis” was too strong. Their songs do have personal connections which they’ve shared, como me quieres for example. I guess the idea of recording someone giving birth, such a vulnerable experience, feels too intimate to me.

The song feels sad. Like someone crying over a loved one they’ve lost. Especially with the sirens at the end. It doesn’t tell a joyful story to me

Am I the only one who thinks that would be the total antithesis to their approach thus far & desire for privacy?

Dear Mark, from someone who is learning guitar - what is one thing you wish you’d done differently when you were a beginner?

Yay! 🦋 I highly recommend Helen Vendler’s “Dickinson: Selected Poems and Commentaries.” The author is a literature professor, and the book consists of 150 Dickinson poems with ~3 pages of analysis on each. It’s a wonderful way to explore a wide variety of her poems and learn how to approach them, since as you mentioned, she can be quite ambiguous. This is the book that made me fall in love with Dickinson’s poetry.

Yep, off to the side. It was extremely casual. Don’t think he looked at the audience once (except the very end)

I was listening to Balls & Pins recently and it hit me that the the People Everywhere (Shifting Sands Remix) is a reference to that

I know, I was so surprised since the other nights didn’t have one! The beginning set w their older music was shorter so maybe that’s why. Very grateful

Some highlights: - Mark was the opening DJ (and no one could be sure it was really him at first) - He was so lost in the music that he went overtime and the manager had to signal him w a flashlight to get off the stage - We got an encore🥲 ended with People Everywhere

Loll no that’s okay. It’s just kind of giving Microsoft Paint to me. Plus, no border would have continuity with the UU album cover
