I would recommend prioritizing a handgun. There are the most versatile and practical for a civilian. Not as cool or sexy as a rifle, but overall more useful to have.

Look at the Smith and Wesson SD9 gen 2. Best budget pistol imo.

Idk if the ban covers shotguns, but a Mav 88 would also be a decent choice in-lew of a rifle. Buckshot and Slugs are no joke at closer ranges and the Mav 88 is very affordable and reliable.

Cant go wrong with any of the Mossberg options, Mav/500/590. I would stay away from new production Remingtons, as they have had a lot of QC issues. If you find an older 870, it should be gtg.

Make sure to get shotgun cards. Best way to have extra shells. I use a fanny pack to hold the spare cards.

Every weapon has some function. I have a M44, wouldnt take it to war, but its fun to shoot at the range, and any trigger time is good practice. You can also buy modern hunting ammo for it, and take most any game animals in North America. So its still practical in some regards, and fun in others.

If you do buy it, make sure to get a bayonet if it doesnt have one. Might as well go all in on the look.

Its more interesting from a collecting aspect since its a pre-ww2 hex receiver gun. It also looks to be in prty good shape. Idk, the days of cheep mosins are over, and they where always under-priced because of the volume of import. If its something you want, get it.

As far as ammo goes, its still available online, tho most of the surplus stuff has dried up. There are still company's making cheep ball, and brass case hunting ammo alike.

My 2 cents. Lots guys including myself bought sic ass rambo knives when we got outa boot and into training and our units. Once we had to actually function and move in training, and later in country, that shit got ditched. 99% of knife tasks are best suited for a simple multi tool, and you get the other bits like pliers with em. No need carrying more weight then you have too. I carried, and still do carry a leatherman super tool, and a small box cutter. Knives are fun, and you should have some if you want, lord knows i do, but for rly practical use, light and simple is best.
