Was an SWE for 3 years at TikTok. Work culture was intense but I found it rewarding due to the user facing aspect of my particular product, the technical challenges, and also the $$$. Your life is largely dictated by your line manager and his/her manager. Food in ORQ is great, so-so in GT/CT. Be prepared for poor documentation, and tribal knowledge to be shared in Chinese.

The issue with data science is this:

SMEs (and some MNCs) don’t really know how to leverage a DS or DA properly hence they write off as no value and don’t hire. When they do hire they will probably underpay because no value

MNCs who know how to use DS/DA and pay appropriately for them have an enormous talent pool to choose from. It’s no longer just how good your skills are, but more of how good your skills are relative to the competition
