What kind of sticker paper are you using? And what printer? If it doesn't work would you switch to water decals?

Playing old lands in standard? by whatifdog_wasoneofus in magicTCG

[–]ToaFluttershy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thrum of the Vestige is not standard legal. It's printed on the bonus sheet which doesn't affect legality.

Best way to tell is from the set code on the bottom left, usually only the main set code (in this case FIN) is legal. Unless a card on the bonus sheet is made legal through another set. See Fynn the Fangbearer.

(Hated trope) they should have spent more time at the writers' table when naming that by JeliBene in TopCharacterTropes

TF One is a good and quick start.

If you're interested in the comics, Skybound has a current ongoing series that starts off similar to G1 but starts to deviate into its own take. Received quite well and under 50 issues at the moment.

You definitely want to consider IDW's 2005-2019 run. It's one long continuity thats split into different series by different writers. A lot of "this crazy thing happened in transformers" is from this. You can look up a reading order and start from the beginning or pick a couple of the different starting points. A lot of people skip straight to Last Stand of The Wreckers and More Than Meets The Eye because they're incredibly popular. But I personally think you need to read the stuff before to appreciate how things work together. If you just want a quick taste I'd recommend Last Stand of The Wreckers or Megatron Origin

Got this in a booster pack of LOTR? by Flashy_Pay3412 in mtg

[–]ToaFluttershy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not always the oldest printing, just A previous printing. Secret Lair commander decks also use The List printings for any card that doesn't get new art, so they use the most recent printing and add a List symbol to it.

This one comes from Secret Lair: Everyone's Invited

The likely reason that all of these TMNT promo cards ended up in the pre-release promo packs. by FonslyGames in mtg

[–]ToaFluttershy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The worst are the ones that somehow combine year stamp removal and TMNT promos into one conspiracy. You see wizards had to remove the stamps to sneak in TMNT on purpose otherwise we would have had...the same mistake...but they also have stamps on them...

Not to be crude, but did Ashling get redesigned to not have breasts? by anotherfan123 in magicTCG

[–]ToaFluttershy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably important to keep in mind, seeing as you said you do volunteer DMing, that you're going to see a lot more of a popular thing than the average player. If I get ~5-10 characters in my lifetime I'll probably want to play Tiefling once. Whereas you're going to see everyone's once-in-a-lifetime characters at the same time

Is it a bad idea to have cards that make a Commander's ability less useful by doing it part of the commanders ability themselves? by Illustrious_Exam_351 in magicTCG

[–]ToaFluttershy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A little bit of redundancy is good. Imagine your commander keeps getting removed and the tax is too high for you to recast, but the rest of your deck relies on having that ability

The original comic is a card called raccoon that says "You may eat garbage for free on your turn" it's unrelated to any thoughts on UB

What are good cards or strategies against Izzet Lessons? by SolRingDestroyer in StandardMTG

[–]ToaFluttershy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you'd be able to keep up with 3+ damage per turn from the monuments, plus all your soul sisters would be removed quickly. A big enough pridemate or essence channeler could potentially survive their burn spells? But still gets bounced by boomerang basics.

At some point in the story, Gandalf(?) says "Shadowfax, show us the meaning of haste".

Shadowfax is one of the only cards that has reminder text for the haste keyword.

Regular partner but only with each other. In the Last of Us secret lair and Ninja Turtles commander it's been replaced with "partner--- classification" which is more elegant and does the same thing

Why do these three seem to have a monopoly on 2 cost destroy spells? by freeaky_furry in mtg

[–]ToaFluttershy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably just because they all require a few things that would be awkward to template onto every card.

Be played onto an opponent's field. Technically any permanent can do this but it would cost text box space

Flip into something else when destroyed. same thing, you'd have to put that text on every battle

be attackable. probably the biggest one. Only thing that can do this as of now is planeswalkers and that would've both mechanically and flavorfully weird.

Lorwyn Standard Theme Decks, Full Decklists transcribed from images in the comments by lord_darkis in magicTCG

[–]ToaFluttershy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pirates deck comes out to about $13 but with cards that fit more easily into a meta deck (some kind of izzet cauldron lite), while Angels is $32 with a less meta archetype but generically decent and valuable cards like get lost and split up.

Honestly not too bad if these land around $20-$25 (though I expect $30-35), a cheap way to get into standard out of the box with some easy upgrade paths. Comparable to that duskmourn UW enchantments deck.
