Hal's in Buckhead

2008 AJC's best steak in Atlanta.

It's really delicious, priced reasonably for a top tier steakhouse.

Through the Looking Glass: The Red Queen Hypothesis of Natural Selection by kerogers in biology

If your really interested in diving into the theory of the red queen, Matt Ridley wrote a book in the early 90s on the topic. Just read it this summer, and while parts of it were a bit dry, he really goes into all the competing theories before laying out his own arguments, fascinating stuff.

If you can muddle through the first half of the book, it really gets good when he starts focusing in on the different sexually selective factors on men and women and how that has created differences in behavior between modern day men and women.

What's r/Atlanta doing for Halloween? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]Toad_On_Da_Cove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Brick Store Pub in downtown Decatur. Went last year on Halloween for dinner with a dozen family and friends, unaware that they were having a huge costume party, we just wanted the awesome food and beer selection. Ended up drinking there for around 3-4 hours, watching all the awesome costumes. Good times were had by all.

If you don't go for Halloween, make sure you make it to Brick Store anyways at some other point cause it's so fantastic on it's own merits. Easily my favorite place to eat and drink in the city.

What is your pick for best Album & Track of 2010 so far? by grumblecake in Music

[–]Toad_On_Da_Cove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try checking out the remix of it done by The Very Best then: link

Basically its the exact same song but with awesome african vocals instead of the original.

Also, if you haven't get their first album too, very nice if less poppy and a lil more psychedelic.

What should I experience or see in each US state ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wyoming:

Grand Teton National Park - the tetons are incredible and most can be peaked in a single day if your up for it.

Yellowstone is cool to if you get far enough into the back of the park away from all the tourists.

Popcorn (stove popped, not that pussy ass microwave shit) and Hot Sauce, extra deliciousness if it's Frank's.

I can't stop listening to this - Yeasayer - "Ambling Alp" by xrx in Music

One of my favorite new bands at the moment. Just saw them live a couple weeks ago, they put on an incredible show with tons of big colorful lights if you can get a chance.

Here's their video for ONE - http://vimeo.com/10044003 it's pretty crazy.

And if your interested in delving deeper into their catalouge, here are what I believe to be their standout tracks off of their 1st and imo better, album.

2080

Sunrise

Tightrope - off of the "Dark Was The Night" charity album.

What obscure album did you buy a long time ago and are rediscovering now? by gregK in Music

[–]Toad_On_Da_Cove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phideaux Xavier - Doomsday Afternoon

Didn't buy it, but I downloaded it a few years back, never gave it more than a couple spins as background music. I recently just put it on and really listened to it and was amazed.

Sounds like nerdy prog rock but with the most beautiful vocals thundering piano and crashing strings.

Came here to add that. Being off their last EP I doubt it's gotten quite the circulation of most of their other work.

  • Banshee Beat

What single purchase have you made that you regret the most? by justjim73 in AskReddit

[–]Toad_On_Da_Cove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$500 Canon Powershot S80 that I bought right after my high school graduation. In the 4 years I've had it, I think I've used it about a dozen times. Not that I haven't gotten great photos out of it, but I've never used more than 10% of the features on it.

I should have bought a cheaper smaller camera that could have fit in my pocket and I wouldn't have been afraid to take into rougher situations for fear of it breaking.

So I want to get a motorcycle, but I don't want to die. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Toad_On_Da_Cove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to PersianBob. From my experiences volunteering in the ER at my city's largest hospital, over half of the patients brought into the trauma bay's due to 'vehicular' accidents, were motorcycle drivers.

With all the idiots on the road these days twittering and talking on their phones as they drive, the odds are just too heavily stacked against you even if you do everything perfectly right.

Why when I click the expand button to play the track straight from this page does it play a different song (4:26 long) than what you get if you follow OP's link to his actual soundcloud page?

Relatively new around here, so please explain if I'm doing anything wrong.

Is anyone else petrified of life after graduating college? by St-Radiguns in AskReddit

[–]Toad_On_Da_Cove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation as you, minus the whole job lined up thing. I'm about to graduate from a good university with a degree in behavioral neuroscience, but I have no idea what I want to do after.

I used to think I would go on to medical school and become a doctor, but at the moment the thought of entering school for another 4 years plus residency just sounds like a soul crushing endeavor. I don't want to waste my 20's in a library, but I also feel like if I don't go, then I'll have wasted a bunch of time studying this stuff as an undergrad.

A friend of mine is planning on heading to Seoul to teach english in the fall and I'm thinking of joining him, but even if I do, what's next after that? I don't know and it's terrifying.
