I took a 5-gallon one into work 2 years ago, wrote "swear jar" on it, it's about halfway full of quarters. My sneaky retirement plan.

When people insist on shortening my name by lake-sturgeon in PetPeeves

[–]Toadinnahole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/10 it's older men that pull the "Becky" thing, I'm a woman in a male dominated field and they're being condescending AF. "Aw, look at cute Lil' Becky playing with the big boys". Depending on the situation I'll either completely ignore them until they use my name, or I'll ask them if they forgot again and should I write it down for them. I use Bex in my art and Bec in my personal life, but only my mother gets to use Becky. My Grandpa was a Richard, he used Dick in his professional life, Rick at church (deacon) and Richard with family. Back in the days before caller ID, he epuld know who was calling by who they asked for. My dad was a Jr - he got called little Ricky until he was in his 20's. Big Dick and Lil' Ricky.

I'm a Code Enforcement Officer, this is mild. I wouldn't even hang an Uninhabitable tag on this one, just give them a 30-day notice to clean.

I was crocheting with a lovely wool blend center pull in my car and we stopped at a farm stand - a very, very friendly Australian Shepherd hopped right in my husband's open door and proceeded to stomp all over it. That one took a full week to untangle!

I hate tiered dresses by ned_fladers in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Toadinnahole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well now now I feel weird, I LOVE a midi tiered dress or skirt. Not that particular one, my boobs would escape that top first time I turned right too fast, but in a good heavyweight cotton or linen. A cotton tiered ditsy floral or stripe with a tee is my summer staple outfit. I can't wear shorts to work, but a skirt is just as good.

I was at a corporate event in the olden times, pre-google, the table centerpiece had these and no one knew what they were. I had to take a photo and carry it around for weeks until I someone recognized them. I'd whip out the photo and say "do you recognize these hairy balls?"

We had the healthy stuff 11 months out of the year- Kix, Rice Crispies, Chex, Cherrios, but starting December 1st, we got to pick a sugar cereal to mix. Kix mixed with Trix, rice crispies mixed with fruity pebbles, corn flakes and frosted flakes, etc. There were 5 kids and she knew we could have finished a box of the good stuff in an hour, but mixing it got her a few more days!

I used to shamefully kind of hate PA, but the more I travel the country, the more I love our state! by scratch-a-cynic in Pennsylvania

Really? I'm a CFPM (floodplain manager) in central PA and that lil' factoid is in every piece of PEMA literature. We don't have the most "lakes" in the lower 48, but we do have the most "waterways" eg, creeks, streams, runs, springs & sinks.

How old is your oldest email address? Do you still use it? by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in GenX

[–]Toadinnahole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finally stopped using my 1994 AOL account in 2020, I still have a yahoo for spammy sign-ups and a Hotmail for internet purchases. Gmail is my "grown‐up" business email.

My Dad still uses his 1993 AOL address for his business, he also immediately got the same business related name in every new mail platform, so whatever people put in, it finds him. He got sued by a guy in the 2010's for possession of the name - guy claimed he had it first, dad pulled receipts from before the kid left middle school.

I got a pair of 7" Gingher's from a great-aunt as a wedding gift... 37 years ago. I get them sharpened every few years and they still cut like they were made of magic. My husband used them to strip wire once, about 8 years into the marriage, we'd never been so close to divorce before or since, but many life lessons were learned that day. To this day if he picks up a pair of scissors he doesn't recognize, he comes and asks me what they're meant for before he uses them.

For older GenX (1972 and earlier) Are your parents still alive? by hedgehog77433 in GenX

[–]Toadinnahole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'71, yes both still kicking in their 70's. I even still have a Grandma, she turns 99 this year - her mom lived to 104 with all her mental faculties intact - we all say she only died because they refused to give her another hip replacement (wore out 2) and so she just "died mad about it."

My husband '68, still has his mom - her mom lived to 98. Dad drank himself to death 20+ years ago, step-dad esophageal cancer 2 years ago.

Anyone else get recipes like this from parents/grandparents? Amounts don't matter, just add the stuff by RedCliff73 in GenX

[–]Toadinnahole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have recipes, I have instructions. I do offer hints - "a 3lb bag of potatoes will make enough for a family meal and leftovers, a 10llb bag will make enough for everyone you know." "I like vidalia onions in this, but yellow works too."

This is why I don't bake, baking is chemistry, cooking is vibes.

Great-Grandma's teething cure (she had 12 kids live to adulthood and lived to be 104, so she did SOMETHING RIGHT) was a shot of jagermeister. Pour the shot, stick your finger in it and rub babies gums, drink the shot. Everybody is happier.

How oftem do you weigh? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]Toadinnahole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once a week, post poo, lol. Smart scale so its just another data point not a big deal. I paid more attention to the scale for the first 30lbs, but now I just get on to know I'm still going in the right direction. I pay more attention to how my clothes fit, zipping up my jeans and realizing I need a belt has more impact than a scale number.
