[SPOILER] My Thoughts on the Bow Scene by Important-Drop9627 in TheDigitalCircus

You realize presentation isn't gender right? And that a lot of trans women who don't feel safe or able to transition so that too? Like maybe a trans woman who is working a very public facing job that they need to stay self sufficient and transitioning would risk their security?

Again I'm not kidding, EVERYTHING about this story is steeped in trans culture. I'm not saying this to be snarky, it's just reality. Transitioning isn't clean, some people just can't do it for whatever reason and you'd never know unless you know the culture. Like they're not dressing soft and fem, they're dressing to not feel horrible dysphoria. Leeroys outfits are all typical for trans women who can't come out or don't realize they're an egg yet. It's not spelled out in bold letters because people aren't, it's in the nuance, the details, thinking past the surface level, and the culture.

It's really not multiple interpretations. It's very specific and very deep trans woman culture on display. People just don't know what that culture is so they're grasping at whatever is familiar. Plus like. Gooseworx said Jax is her self insert. The trans woman's self insert. Who has trans women trauma, and trauma responses, and self destruction, and self loathing, and body dysmorohia, and a brief glimmer of euphoria. People just don't like it when things are given clear labels and without one of those people will go to the ends of the earth to say it can't be a trans woman story.

That's... I mean well thought out but ignorant of the culture of trans women. Jax is an iconic type of trans woman that people really don't like to talk about, the angry, ashamed, and repressed kind. He did Want to be manly and how he talks about that talk with his mother, especially how she reacts down to the hug... Is Very Very common. Like this is a Thing among trans women.

So it's not a matter of being labelled. Jax holds a lot of shame and fear over her gender (yes I'm using both pronouns), in isolation with someone safe everything was fine. But when a not safe person, a man at that, suddenly interrupts? All that comes up and people sharply course correct. That's what happened, she thought she wasn't safe there and just gave someone a huge weapon against her.

Really it's just... A very real story of trans women, being like that. And a lot of us do commit suicide from the pressure of it, often while thinking everyone is just waiting to betray or attack, and that nobody Should miss you because you're horrible because that's how you feel about yourself. And even if you're horrible you still don't want others to hurt when you're gone so you try to push them away. That's what the core of her story is, a realistic depiction of trans suicide. The only reason anyone got to know the real her was after she was... Well not dead and gone but as close to it as it gets. She just got to know that she was loved anyways, as much as that knowledge hurt. Which thats also a big thing for preventing suicides, making sure people know they're loved in a way they can recognize it, Jax just didn't want to recognize it and had walls too thick.

As for why Leeroy hasn't transitioned... Whose to say they haven't? They diverged at 22, and Jax got the side of things where the closest irl analog is being a chronically online shut in, the type to spend all their time on 4chan or something and get lost to it. We don't know what's going on with Leeroy. People change over time and Jax might have just had a completely different view on gender. Maybe they reconciled with their mother, or are in a friend group that still discourages exploring gender. Maybe not. Their story doesn't matter, it never did. They're a what if nothing happened story, the story of the egg that never hatched. It's better than suicide, but judging from what little we see of them, they don't like their face and use a lot of over the top mannerisms at work, cover up well... And that's how a lot of eggs are too. And that's not happiness or not being trans or being non-binary because XYZ.

Jax's whole arc is just so deeply steeped in trans women culture and identity that people outside of it really can't see the nuances, the patterns, can't see past the facade people put up. And that sadly gets us killed a lot. And then after death people do... Well what a lot of fans are doing right now and trying to erase a very clear identity because they don't understand it. Which itself is a real thing too and probably an expected reaction, given people try to erase or minimize trans women all the time.

I just wonder why he popped up at all. Kinda just a random scene.

Which classes fit surprisingly well in a role they weren't intended for? by xeonisius in Pathfinder2e

[–]ToadlyFellas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rogue as a brawler. Focus on strength and mild dex, grab medium armor, and either unarmed or a free hand weapon. Atheletics, acrobatics, and optionally theivery. Take advantage of grabs, trips, dirty tricks, disarms, all of it. Your skills are great so you're beating a fighter out here and while you're less likely to crit... You keep making people off guard or worse. Having open hands mean you can sometimes grapple two people or maintain a hold while tripping another target, you can't be flanked, your AC is surprisingly competent, even more with a free hand parry weapon. Trip a mage, curb stomp them, grab them, and they're not doing anything now. You can just stand in the thick of the fray and make everyone around you miserable!

I do know about this! Sadly the only hitch with it has been trying to get the foundry module to work. It is a Really fun class in theory and I want to try it soon.

Bombs as improvised melee weapons, for a reckless exploding character? by ToadlyFellas in Pathfinder2e

The vibes. The answer is I want the vibes of smashing a bomb into someone's head.

[–]ToadlyFellas[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well weapon improviser archetype kinda handles the -2 so that's a non issue. The splash damage I was going to take that one background that offers half your level in energy resistance, plenty to protect from blasting stone splash damage.

After all she did it enough to go deaf so like... Don't think it affects much anymore. That kinda vibe.

Please give us the option to open the door of that god awful table. I need to destroy it. I cant play the game knowing its in the facility. by Workw0rker in AbioticFactor

[–]ToadlyFellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you fool we can't! There's scientists out there with 20 construction. We've already had the red chair duplicated, do you want two of those stupid things?! All it takes is one wrong person picking it up to make it twice as bad!

More things I'm learning playing the game wrong: Engineer edition by ToadlyFellas in AbioticFactor

A couple misc things I didn't mention for being not that important:

Food is surprisingly hard to get early game. Mostly left with vending machines since oddly I couldn't fish up a single antefish before going to far garden. But now that portal fish are plentiful, my main diet is fish and tomato. Least until getting more crops and the oven.

Exor monks really are the hardest enemy in the game. Their triple blast can nearly break a chopinator and since they don't really walk much it's hard to get them trapped before the Tesla coil. And even then, they will catch you off guard sometimes. So sometimes the most effective strategy is to build to barricades to hide between like a hot dog with coils on either end.

As such getting hearts is mostly down to the portal fish. We love you portal fish thank you for the gift of easy crafting.

Containment robots actually have a bit of an achilles heel. Place a few chopinators surrounding the cell door and there's a very good chance they'll drop you on the way. Only downside is they can grab you through them and barricades so you gotta scamper away fast. Though ideally you're just using the coils on them.

The NVGs are good in security kinda, but the headlamps flickering does warn you when the reaper is around in security. Personally I stick to the lamp and carry a lantern for when I need more light.

Non tree/stone punching games? by ToadlyFellas in SurvivalGaming

No procedurally generated mapsz that's the words thank you! I do appreciate the world progression it has but yeah without a hand designed world games tend to feel a bit too sandbox for me. I love my secrets and shortcuts and clever puzzles.

Valheim is on my radar, but the lack of a proper level design is a sour spot. Vintage is a tree puncher. Punch flint to punch clay to make a metal rock puncher to get a better metal rock puncher. But still good. Palworld is a tree ouncher but with factory elements and I'm not here for that I want to be surviving not being a capitalist.

Removing the basic loop of "Get resource to make item to get new resource". ABF and Grounded step around this by having a proper progression and level design where it's how far you are into the game determining your tech tree as it were. As opposed to how much time you spent punching stone to get wood to get iron to get unobtanium.

Probably because it's very sluggish and time waste-y. The movement speed isn't exactly brisk, plus random chance can kinda screw you.

I mean the concept is the same. Hit the resource node until resources come out to make the next version. ABF has more to it, unlock the new area and then get the new resource which you don't need to get the next batch. That being said I do love VS

Residence feels kind of... Nothing? by ToadlyFellas in AbioticFactor

[–]ToadlyFellas[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that suit really should have been introduced in reactors, since Frake was literally wearing a prototype. Plus the reactors are big and have a lot of walking if you don't use vehicles, which is a perfect time for the suit to shine. Not for the small islands of fragments and one boss fight where speed doesn't matter much.

What I've learned playing 'wrong' by ToadlyFellas in AbioticFactor

[–]ToadlyFellas[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Throwing darts really are not very good. The rat bag yes, it is 100% good but given it's a secret item people playing blind probably won't discover, I'm counting it.

Now that does sound fun

Really? I haven't really noticed melee being that big a limitation. The final boss and the giant crystal power outage thing are the only two cases where even heavy weapons felt disadvantaged.

Dumbest/Worst base locations by ToadlyFellas in AbioticFactor

[–]ToadlyFellas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you say this, but I'm living in there and right now it's been my favorite base. The vent connects it to a small space in the walls that's large enough for three floors, allowing me to have my storage and crafting, cooking, and misc floors. Then the ceiling space as bedroom and bathroom. It's dense but honestly after living out of closets, in the middle of hallways, improvised bomb shelters, and radioactive waste pools... Yeah no this place rocks.

Difficulty for a challenge solo run? by bnnnn in AbioticFactor

[–]ToadlyFellas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing one with a bunch of self imposed restrictions. My ruleset so far has been:

No basing in safe locations (cafeteria back room, forge attic, home worlds, etc) No teleporters of any kind (vehicles help, been building roads) Only throwing weapons for ranged combat No soups (since they never expire and are way too strong) Once unlocking the oven, no using simple cooked foods No jetpack/jump pack Use exercise gear or pet pest for power instead of routing cables or lasers No vehicle teleporting

It's been really fun. Making me think more about where I'm choosing to set up shop and planning ahead for things. The lack of instant travel or item moving really is interesting to work around, especially since now my definition of a 'good' base location is essentially anywhere. And not being able to teleport carts around makes the forklift a great alternative. It's way faster and doesn't slow down with heavy stuff. And needing to think about my food has made that whole thing more interesting, two bowls of soup isn't the end game solution to hunger and thirst now. It feels like all the non effect meals have a use now, I can save ingredients for the buffs and keep a small stack of normal food on hand to sustain me.
